    Stay away!

    rating04 Oct 2025

My husband and I have just returned from a week trip here. First of being dropped off at 9pm at the bottom of the hill. To then checking in and within 2 mins have to ask for another room because the back door was broken. Then the beds are rock solid. Come to our first full day here and breakfast, lunch and dinner everything was cold, or undercooked. Only good thing about this hotel was the shuttle transfer down to the highstreet every hour.

Not what it says on the tin.

    rating30 Sept 2025

Honest review, just got home last night from a week at this 4* (I say that lightly) hotel. Midnight drop off by TLT who throw you out at the bottom of what's only explained as cardiac hill, in the dark, no street lighting, up a dirt track. Disability or no disability you are walking up that hill whether you like it or not. We had youths on motorbikes circling around us. It was the most scary experience we've had. Upon finally reaching the alleged 4* hotel we were greeted by a nice young man. He went through everything then showed us to our 2 rooms. The room... on first look, it was nice, looked clean, basic but was suitable. Then we entered the bathroom.. the shower cubicle was one side glass, one side a shower curtain that gave privacy of only your top half ( after showers the bathroom was soaked). The shower head itself was hooked onto the wall at hobbit height. 2ft from the floor. The beds are so hard that the floor was probably softer. You get 1 pillow and a bed sheet that's it. You have to ask at reception for a blanket or extra sheets and wait 2 days for them to arrive on a good day. No kettle in the room as stated on the hotel description, you have to ask at reception if you want one. The cleaners are very nice and do a good job. The hotel structure is nice, the pool area is clean, plenty of sunbeds, the terrace was lovely and great views from there. Then there's the food.... EVERY DAY it was cold food. Very small dining area (but clean) so limited choices at meal times. Chicken every day, salad bar, chips once during our stay, spaghetti bol every day, dessert EVERY DAY consisted of 1 chocolate and cream cake and some little bite things. Jelly was on offer for breakfast. As stated in the hotel description there were snacks between.. THERE IS NOT. You have to pay for bar snacks.. All inclusive is 10 am til 10 pm, do not expect your little plastic cup to be filled either, you may as well get 4 at a time and pour them into each other to make 2 drinks, we learnt this by day 2 otherwise you are up and down constantly to get a refill. There is a buggy that takes you down Cardiac Hill every hour on the hour up until 9 pm. It takes you to the tunnel and takes you back up if waiting at the bottom. The walk down isn't so bad. Overall, this hotel is NOT a 4* hotel. I will definitely be back to Crete as it is beautiful, but I will definitely not be back to this hotel.

    NOT 4 STAR

    rating27 Sept 2025

As per the title it is a 2 Star hotel. Most staff friendly, building is tired. Pool area clean and plenty of sunbeds. Room we had shower head mounted at 2 foot from floor, so you had to hold the shower head whist showering. Found and disposed of 2 co kroaches in bathroom over the week. Bed linen changed once in seven days and towels every other day. Air con worked great.Dining room is just SAD. Food was cheap (budget) and luke warm unless you arrive when new tray being put out. Salads great every day. Drinks only 'all inclusive till 10pm then you pay and quantity served very small in plastic cups, cocktails very poor and watered down. Felt like a second class citizen at the bar unless you paid for drinks. Not ' all inclusive' but limited inclusive.Overall ok if you go out for meals alot and see the beautiful island.Would'nt recommend and would not go back again. There are far better hotels with lower star ratings on the island.

    Poor hotel not 4 star

    rating19 Sept 2025

Location is actually quite nice. Very quiet area at the top of a not so steep hill. We walked it and timed ourselves 7 minutes from the main road. Arrived at 3.30am. Nice lad on front desk helped us to our room. The room was cleaned everyday with towels and bedding changed every other day. Fridge in room to keep your PURCHASED water in. This is not included in the all inclusive option. All inclusive was pants. The drinks were watered down and measures were very poor. Couldn't taste the spirit unless it was Ouzo. Beer and soft drinks served by the mouthful in small plastic glasses both day and night. Sometime they ran out if beer and wine. There were generally 2 girls serving one of them called Anna. She was the worst bar person I have ever come across. She was miserable, loved to roll her eyes at people and did not like pouring drinks. When it gets to 10pm regardless if you have been stood in a queue for 10 mins you are refused all inclusive. Time up!!!The food was ok. We are not fussy so didn't go hungry. The food was never hot. There was always a big rush for any cake that was brought out as the dessert selection was very poor. If you were lucky enough to get some it was partly frozen. There is a bbq night, Greek night and pool parties. This was the only entertainment. As this usually started at 8.30-9 0i think thisxwaz a way to get you to buy drinks after 10pm. If you bought drinks day or night they were served in a glass even by the pool. All all inclusive drinks served in small plastic cups. Not sure why this was especially on an evening., given this is supposed to be 4 star hotel. The pool was nice but had to ask for it to be cleaned after a pool party. Never in the 14 days we were there did we see pool maintenance. Only the odd scattering of chlorine left at side of the pool now and again. Staff in rest were miserable, only speaking to each other and not the guests. Was greted with rolled eyes yet again if the coffee machine needed the drip tray emptying. Which was quite often as the measures from the machine also did not fill a small cup therefore people got 2 servings leasing to overflow into said drip tray. If you want an early night don't expect it if there is entertainment on. Having been here for 2 weeks we decided not to ho you Greek night in our second week. This didn't finish until circa 1am and boy did we know it. So so loud. We met some great people on this holiday which made up for the 2 star hotel experience. We learned to laugh and make the most of it. We will jot be going back and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone until they actually deserve the 4 star they are advertising.

Sunset Paradise (Adel Paradise Adelianos Kampos Crete) WARNING

    rating18 Sept 2025

We arrived at 03:25 on 12th (holiday from 11th to 18th) September for a week’s all inclusive holiday. The transfer minibus dropped off at 03:10 at bottom of the hill. The driver told us he couldn’t drive to the hotel (despite coaches and bin lorries driving up) but was ‘2 minutes only’ actually 10 minutes, but more when dragging a case up the hill, in the relative darkness. A fellow guest from Newcastle told us they were dropped off at 02:00 with cases and a 7-months pregnant daughter. Absolutely terrible service. The final insult was provided by us having to walk down the hill whilst pulling a large case and carrying a rucksack and bag to get to a restaurant to eat prior to our transfer collection. When it 28°C it’s really no a pleasant experience!Room was ok. Air conditioning was not very responsive but ok. The hotel and pool area was kept clean. Breakfast choice was reasonable but every ‘hot’ item was cold (apart from diy toast!) so toast it was (nice Greek yogurt though).Lunch was limited in choice but ok apart from again, every hot item was cold. Salad to the rescue again!Dinner, pretty well as lunch issues. Additionally, we can’t understand why they have to put salt onto or into everything - overwhelming especially fried potato related food. Beware that the ‘baked fish’ was either ok or mostly changed the texture to a form of fish jelly. Drinks were quite limited in choice, stopped being all inclusive at 22:00 and were served (poolside bar) in plastic cups. Ok but lacking taste (diluted) but they would only be filled to just over half. I did ask for my cup to be filled up and was met with the rolling eyes look!!The ‘warning’ element was manifested during our 11:00 checkout, where we were asked to return out all inclusive wrist bands. The point being that out transfer wasn’t until 20:30 which meant no lunch or dinner or drinks from 11;00 to 20:30. We pointed out that we didn’t check in until 12th so we did not use any restaurant facilities at all the first day. We were in effect told ‘tough’. We have stayed at many all inclusive hotels over many years and have never surrendered our wrist bands until transfer collection. We had to eat out costing an additional €75! So thank you Sunset Paradise!!!The Thomas Cook website says that AI can be used until 11:00 checkout time, but also says that guests arriving after 15:00 can use the AI element after 11pm, even though the AI stops at 19pm!!Thomas Cook website has this hotel as being 4 out of 5 on Tripadvisor. The ‘recent’ reviews are 4.5. But the recent reviews mentions 3 pools and a spa whereas none of these exist at this hotel, further evidence that hotels with the same names are mixed up. However, the actual Tripadvisor rating is 2.5 out of 5. TheThere does seem to be another Sunset Paradise in Crete so very unhelpful. If we saw it was rated so low we would never have booked this hotel. The hotel name on Tripadvisor is actually (presumably its former name) Adel Paradise - it is the same hotel because of the photographs published. Would we book this hotel again, or recommend this hotel to anyone? That’s a big fat NO from us. We will be contacting Thomas Cook with our complaints and feedback.
