Poor food and we can’t serve you gluten free bread again

    rating22 Apr 2026

Having been a regular to this hotel for many years a good 8or more in the cafeteria bar area this lunch time I took my mother for a quick bite to eat as she had an appointment at the chiropractor and we did not have a lot of time. My mother 88 years old and can only eat gluten free bread so she took her own fresh bread from the supermarket. We asked one of the bar staff if she could ask the kitchen staff to make a sandwich with some ham and sliced tomato and toast the bread and spread it with margarine. I was told that they could not use customers own bread but not to worry as they have gluten free bread. I ordered a club sandwich lettuce chicken and bacon with chips. There was only a few people in the cafeteria but we had to wait a good 20 minutes for our food. When it arrived it had 3 slices of gluten bread none of them toasted totally white with a little brown edging no margarine and a slice of ham between each slice with tomatoe. The bacon in my sandwich was burnt and hard. The rest was okay so I ate it leaving the hard burnt bacon to one side. Normally I would have returned both dishes and requested them to be re done but we were pressed for time. I took photos of the intimidated bread and burnt bacon. We complained to the staff at 4pm as they were changing shift to the late turn and one of the late shift girls took our plates away. I saw them showing our plates to one of the male staff who I believe was one of the restaurant managers. I expected him to come across and apologise but he just walked off. My sandwich was priced at €12 including chips and I was quite prepared to pay a little less to allow for the burnt bacon. One of the late staff girls gave me the bill and told me that we did not have to pay for any of the food just the drinks. I was quite surprised but happy at this point BUT then things took a turn. The initial girl who served us told me that one of the gluten bread slices was toasted. I told her but the other 2 were not. She argued that there was only 2 slices but I argued there were 3 but she said well only 2 normally. She was the one that brought it to us and there were 3 slices. The late shift girl then told me that they cannot serve us again with toasted gluten free bread !!! I asked why and she told me because it was difficult to do !!!So basically my mother can’t eat there again. Later that evening we visited our regular small cafeteria and took 2 slices of our gluten free bread. There was a new cook on duty who usually works in a small chiringuito. We asked for 2 toasted slices with margarine poached egg beans and fried tomato. The gluten bread was toasted to perfection. So how come a small time chef used to working in a small chiringuito can do it but a chef in a 4 star hotel can’t ??? I went home popped a slice of gluten free bread in my toaster on level 3 and perfection. For a regular at this hotel it was a bad experience.

The rooms are refurbished and very nice. The hotel restaurant food is terrible though. This is our second time in the restaurant, last time was 2 years ago so we gave it another chance......big mistake. The food was terrible.we ordered the paella, it was dry with uncooked rice , all served on very cold plates. I complained to the server but, she said that how it should be !Our other friend ordered the lamb chops which were overcooked. Conclusion, eat out. Well what a fantastic experience this hotel is. The room was excellent and was just what we wanted. The staff are happy and pleasant as well as always ready to help.We had breakfast every morning g and the quality and selection was perfect. The waiter was amazing. If we had one small criticism it was that there was no shower glass or curtain…but that’s it!

Quality hotel with friendly/helpful staff - next to a parade of shops/restaurants.Mosquitos in the area - the only issue.In-house restaurants lacking in appeal - so not tried.Only hotel in the immediate vicinity.
