This is our second time visiting the hotel and again we had a lovely holiday. Makis is very friendly and accommodating and adored our little 3 year old boy. He would go out of his way to say hello to him in the morning and even bought him some teddies and a race car. One evening our little boy was really poorly and Makis ordered us a taxi to the hospital straight away and even stayed over at the hotel in case we needed him in the night. He even paid for our son’s medication in the morning. An amazing man who genuinely cares about people and their children. So if you’re thinking about a friendly place to stay with little ones I would recommend this hotel. We can’t wait to go back next year! It’s also got great views. A lovely pool and lots of local places to eat.

This is the second time that we have visited the Athena Hotel and can honestly say it was as good as the first time! Makis the owner is second to none and will go out of his way to ensure that you have a wonderful time. He will take care of anything you ask of him and is so sincere and genuine. There is always a warm welcome from him and he knows everyone by name. We now have the bug like most of his guests who have been returning for years and I know we will do the same. We have travelled to many countries over the years and Makis and the Athena have made such an impression on us that we can’t wait to visit next year.

Great hotel, location good for a walk into Sami. Fantastic staff and Makis will fix it. Easy walk to Melissani Cave, and walk up the street to Zervati Cave what is a good explorer.

Good value, basic hotel - the owner goes the extra mile

To manage expectations - the rooms at this hotel are pretty basic - but...They are clean & provide everything you need. We were not happy with our first room, (balcony) but Makis managed to accommodate us in a different room with a proper balcony and sea/mountain views. The hotel is very informal/relaxed (which we like), A/C was necessary & worked well - no extra cost. We had use of the pool at the hotel next door which was excellent & only 2 minutes walk away. What started as a not so good experience, finished up as a lovely holiday because the owner cares & wants you to have a lovely time. Can't fault that can you? Breakfast was included - again basic but there were choices & the tea wasn't bad!! We were on a Jet2 package & reckon it was pretty good value. Excellent restaurant 5 mins walk away & a small beach. 20mins walk into Sami. We had a car, which i would recommend for getting around the island. We really did have a good holiday at Athina & would generally recommend it.
