  “Makis Really Does ‘Fix It!’ – The Most Welcoming Hotel in Kefalonia”

  We booked the Athina Hotel through Jet2 as part of a large group trip to Kefalonia, after it came highly recommended by friends who have stayed there many times. We arrived very late but were greeted with a wonderfully warm welcome from Makis, the owner, and our friends who had arrived the day before. After dropping our cases off in the room, we enjoyed a quick drink at the bar before heading to bed.The hotel is spotlessly clean, and while the rooms are simple, they are comfortable, well-maintained, and cleaned daily with fresh bedding and towels. Nothing is ever too much trouble for Makis (“I fix it!” as he likes to say), he arranged taxis, car hire, a boat trip, and even ordered food for us to enjoy at the bar. His genuine care and hospitality make such a difference.Our friends have been returning year after year for over a decade, and it’s easy to see why, Makis remembers everyone by name and makes you feel like family. The family-run hotel next door offers use of its pool, sunbeds, and gym, which was a great bonus.The location is ideal, set on the outskirts of Sami, it’s about a 20-minute stroll to the harbour with its fantastic tavernas. The famous Melissani Cave is also within walking distance and well worth a visit.A huge thank you to Makis and the wonderful team at the Athina Hotel for making our stay so special. It’s clear why guests keep coming back.

  A wonderful find in a stunning location

  Found the Athina hotel by chance whilst looking for somewhere in Kefalonia. What a find. After arriving very late, we were greeted by a very warm welcome from Makis the owner. Cases dropped off in room & quick drink before bed. The hotel is spotless, rooms are typically Greek, basic but very comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily with clean bedding & fresh towels. Nothing is too much trouble for Makis, taxis, car rental, boat hire or even booking you a table in one of the busy tavernas. He genuinely wants you to have the best holiday. This is proved by how many guests have returned year in year out. He has a knack for remembering everybody’s names & making sure you are introduced to all in the bar. The Spa hotel next door is owned by the family also & you have use of their pool & sun beds. Amazing pool bar, with great snacks & meals. Also the private beach & sun beds, all within 50yrds. The team at the Athina are without exception the friendliest & genuine people I’ve encountered in hotels. The hotel is ideally situated on the outskirts of Sami, about a twenty minute stroll to some amazing tavernas. Karavamylos where the hotel is has a bakery & a couple of nice tavernas within a five minute walk. Melissani cave is about a 10 minute walk away & is definitely worth the effort. Try & go early to avoid the coach trips. We couldn’t have picked a better place. Thank you Makis & your wonderful team for making our stay so wonderful. Regards Andy & Patricia.

  Amazing stay at these lovely friendly apartments. Were well looked after by the wonderful Makis the owner he couldn't do enough for us. Lovely clean complex with the use of the facilities of the neighbouring hotel. Would highly recommend 👌

  A gem of a place!

  Just returned from a fabulous two week holiday at the Athina hotel.The welcome upon arrival was friendly and efficient. The hotel boasts the most friendly and enjoyable atmosphere hosted by Makis and his team who are all friendly and attentive from the cleaning ladies, breakfast lady and reception.Nothing is too much trouble .. already booked for next year .. but be quick it sells out fast!

  A perfect family holiday thanks to the dream team

  My friend Theresa shared her love of this hotel and it s fantastic friendly team and facilities. So we booked. It was brilliant. Makis and his dream team are absolutely lovely and a joy to stay with. The rooms we had overlooking the tennis courts and sea beyond were cool and comfy and super cleaned daily. Beds great and new towels and even olive shampoo.We hired a jeep from the airport and travelled the whole island from Fiskardo and Skala to a Mt Ainos walk (very recommended for cool breeze and views) and Antisamis/Mythos. We went over to Argostolia to see the turtles and enjoy some vibrant nightlife too. We hired a boat from Makis’s friends and swam in little turquoise bays along the coast. I loved the local abandoned earthquake village and nearby lamb grill restaurant in the hills.Always it was fabulous to wake up to the big blue pool (you can really have a good swim) and friendly bar next door. The staff there are also great and the sun beds with sumptuous mattresses and a joy. We wandered down to jetty and swam in the cool sea when it got really hot.Honestly, Athina hotel is such a find and I can see why nearly 60% per cent of Makis s guests are returners! I certainly plan to join them!
