So happy we have stayed at this hotel. Unbelievable hospitality, super clean, quite and comfy. We felt like home. Such a beautiful surroundings! I have enjoyed each walk. The city Volos (for more restaurants by beautiful port, shopping and other stuff) is only 25 min away by comfortable bus driven on breathtaking serpentine road.

Good hotel in a quiet area

Portaria is a wonderful city with nice fresh air and old traditional houses and so is Alkistis Hotel.A narrow stone-paved street is leading to the hotel. Due to the area and the narrow street you have to find parking elsewhere, quite a job in the weekends, where many people visit the city. The hotel is in a walking distance to the central square and the main street with many cafees/tavernas and shops selling traditional products. The friendly owner welcomed us in the reception/lobby and checked us in very quickly. The luggage was picked up from the outside and brought to the room, a very nice and clean one with a small balcony. Nice and free WiFi in the room. This stay was with half board. Both dinner and breakfast was from a rich buffet and very good, very high quality. Family and staff was very friendly, smiling and helpful, all the time at your service. This hotel is good and absolutely value for money.

    Value for money hotel

Being one of the cheapest options in Portaria this hotel did not disappoint. Some of it's strong points were the extremely friendly and helpful staff (reading past reviews I'm glad they worked on the reception's behavior), also the lovely and cozy lobby and the hotel's location right by the village's main square. I have to warn about the hotel's mediocre breakfast and unreliable wi-fi. Also the room's furniture and bathroom could be better serviced. Considering the above it was gonna be a 3-star review, but the fact that the reception immediately changed us from a double one bedroom to a 4-person room just because i requested a double bed after arriving is very commendable and made our trip better.

This is the worst hotel we stayed during our two-week trip in Greece. Problems: (1) Reception staff not very friendly. When we arrived a little after noon, we were abruptly told to come back later. We didn't have problems doing that, but the reception staff could have been nicer about it. And there was no safe storage place to leave our luggage. We were told to leave it near the busy lounge area at the hallway entrance to the rooms. (2) The regular reception staff was not around in the evening. Instead, there was a guy who didn't speak English. When I tried to check out early the night before the day I left, there was no way for him to issue a receipt. He had to call someone on the phone to try to settle the matter. We were told they can only issue a receipt the next day. However, when I checked out the next morning, the was still no way for the reception desk to issue a receipt. After waiting for 10 minutes while the reception guy argued on the phone with someone on the other end, we were told that my receipt would be e-mailed to me in the next 10 minutes. What a hassle. (3) This is a VERY noisy hotel. You can hear talking, footsteps, doors slamming, shutters slamming, etc. The last night we were there, it was rainy and windy. The sound of shutters slamming against the walls all over the place was going on all night. No one could sleep. (4) The shower stall was designed for a rabbit or something smaller. For a human being, it was like a coffin - a very tight one. I have no idea why they would install this fancy shower with jets all over the place in a lousy 2-star hotel. It would have been wiser to spend the money on practical things. (5) The wifi was slow and not very reliable. (6) If you have a car, finding somewhere to park would be a miracle. (7) If you have a balcony view, you'd mostly see the back of an unfinished building. (8) Breakfast was about average at best. Portaria is a nice place, but it would be better to make Volos your base. The reason is the drive to Portaria and neighboring towns and villages in the area. The roads are steep and winding with cars parked all over the place. But the whole peninsula is worth a visit if you have the time.
