  Great base and great location

  This review is a bit late and there have been some upgrades this year but feel this review will still be helpful to others.We really enjoyed staying here. We have been to Pefkos several times but this was out first time at the Matina. On arrival a friendly guy pointed to where we had to go although at nearly midnight and never being on the grounds before, and being with two young children a pushchair and a load of luggage to hike about it would have been nice to be shown to the room/block rather than us guess we were going to the right place but this isn't the end of the world, it would have just made things a little nicer on arrival. We had a top floor apartment which I requested so that was nice View from balcony was over the wedding area and corner of a pool and the front was the football pitch and another hotel pool that we got married at so that was nice to see. The Location is excellent. A minute from the beach and places to eat. Ideal with young children with the heat.The pools are fantastic, really big and the kids loved them. Plenty of room for all even in high season. We didn't see anyone fishing out the plastic cups in the morning so we had to do this in the kids pool but overall pool was pretty clean. Only thing missing is some quiet music around the pool for a little atmosphere but that is our preference. We had entertainment one day out the two weeks we were there which was great and really popular. Shop onsite is really handy. We ordered water etc to our room for arrival which is great when arriving late at night with kids. That was a nice touch. Pool was very busy in the day (both of them) if we weren't out 6/7am You wouldn't get a bed all day. People would reserve beds and go back to bed but we did go in August so thats pretty common for peak season. We often went to other pool bars if this happened. They are so many great ones close by. Food at the hotel is amazing. We were self catering but had breakfast and lunch there most days.Entertainment for kids is non existant. We hate big hotels with loud kids entertainment but one night in two weeks would be good to have something for kids as many familys stay at this hotel. The entertainment seemed popular with the older generation though as it was aimed at their age.Majority of the staff are very friendly esp at both bars.We did pay for late checkout which was really handy when getting a late flight home with kids. Price was reasonable too. We also hired a safe for two weeks. Again a fair price.The room: on arrival we had ants everywhere even crawling on the bed. We were top floor. We noticed two empty ant killer spray cans under the sink so obviously an ongoing issue. Not sure whey these were left under the sink when empty but never mind. We went to the shop and got our own. Not a major issue but we did have to spray small gaps in the wall to keep the ants at bay. The cleaners were not as friendly as other resorts we stayed at but they work hard and have a lot of rooms to get to. Our balcony was rarely cleaned and covered in bits of tree but overall cleaning was ok. We found a broom most days so swept the balcony ourselves. Not sure how often sheets and towels were changed as no info on this but maybe every few days. Bathroom was a good size and shower over bath was great with little ones but it could do with an upgrade. Beds were comfy for kids. Was nice they had a proper bed rather than a sofa pull out bed. Bed in the main room was two pushed together. One large bed would be much more comfortable when a couple but many places still seem to do this. Room was a good size and spacious for a family of 4. We had a table/chairs in the room and it was nice to have somewhere to sit and eat snacks/breakfast. We didn't cook in the room. It was typical self catering, very basic but might be ok for simple meals. My daughter loved the small football pitch near our room. Kids play area was ok for my son but could do with a little TLC. Since we have stayed, breakfast is now a buffet but I bet the food is still just as good. Some rooms have also had an upgrade and look great but not the block we stayed in. Maybe this is on the cards and then the place would be amazing.Overall we really enjoyed our holiday here and would return for sure, epecially with the upgrades they are doing.

  Great holiday at Marina

  We had an amazing time stayed in a room with its own pool half board. Room clean and modern.Staff are all amazing To start the he week we had our half board breakfast in the people’s bar which was great and towards the end the new buffet opened which was also great. Evening meals are in the Meltemi restaurant wow amazing food and staff.

  Best hotel and staff in Pefkos thank you so much for wonderful stay. Couldn’t recommend this hotel enough, the girls on reception were amazing and so friendly. The staff in the shop were fantastic and always so nice to my little girl. The bar staff again were fantastic. Love this hotel. 1 min from the beach. Food is fantastic too. Cannot wait to return. No1 hotel in Pefkos. Simply the best ❤️😎

  We have just returned from a 21 night stay and this was our twelfth visit to Matina. We usually request block 8 high floor but on this occasion we was told that we couldn’t request both, they said is it the block or the floor we wanted.We decided to go for the block as on the previous visit we were allocated block 9 and experienced some cleaning issues where the cleaner wasn’t coming until 5pm when we were getting showered and trying to get ready to go out for dinner.I think they had staffing problems on this particular occasion.Anyway, we did get block 8 but was on the ground floor.We went to reception asking if we could get a room change as we recently went to Crete and we got broken into while being on the ground floor, this really un nerved us and obviously put a dampener on our holiday.We were told that there was no other rooms available at that time and they would call us when one became available.We went to reception 3 or 4 times to see if rooms had become free and was told we should get a move on our last week.We spoke to the lovely Mrs Pallas about the situation and she said she would look into it.However, the only call we got was to remind us to pay the room tax.I know rooms had become available but for some reason we were overlooked and had to spend 21 nights in a room with no real view.As much as we love Pefkos and Matina in particular it is now unlikely that we shall return as we feel they could have made some kind of arrangement to help us out so we could have enjoyed our time there.Besides that Matina is in a perfect location, and provides you with all the amenities you need. Staff are magnificent and very helpful.Just a shame it’s put us off returning. stefanos pallas, Owner at Matina Pefkos Aparthotel, responded to this review Dear NeilFurther to your recent review we would like to offer some clarity to what actually transpired prior to and during your most recent stay with us. We would like to clarify firstly that you did not request block 8, high floor as you state in your review. Your exact request was as follows: I know nothing can be promised but could I please politely request that we are located in block 8 as this is by far our preferred location. Out of the numerous times we have stayed with you we find block 8 is absolutely perfect for us, and with us staying for a full three weeks we would dearly like to be able to enjoy our vacation with you. Our response to your request was: “A note of your request for block 8 has been made which we will do our very best to meet with - however, it cannot be guaranteed.” As you can clearly see, you neither requested a high floor prior to arrival nor was told that this would not be considered. Looking back at your previous stays with us since 2014, on every occasion you have stayed, you have been allocated as per the request you have made. Even when you were allocated block 9, this was because you specifically said on that occasion you wanted high floor and we met with that request. Indeed, even on this occasion, you were allocated precisely as per your request.As you said yourself in your initial email, these are only requests and you understand that they cannot be “promised” but judging by the way in which you have reacted to the fact that you did not get the room you wished, you clearly do not understand this at all. We believe that you felt because you were staying for “a full 3 weeks”, that you should receive preferential treatment for allocation above other guests. However, we do not prioritise allocations on personal preference, although it is a consideration, we prioritise based on necessary such as mobility restrictions and guests with specialised needs etc.The comments and insinuation in your review that we did nothing to remedy the situation are also untrue. Upon notifying us that you did not want a low floor, we advised that a high floor room was available but in an alternative block. You did not wish to consider this move; such was your concern for your safety as you suggest. You immediately dismissed this option as it was not in the block that you wanted. Therefore, you chose to stay in the ground floor room, despite being “unnerved” by a recent break in, because it was in your block of preference. You have completely omitted the fact that we offered you an alternative upper floor room from your review, which we find to be disingenuous. We can confirm that you did indeed accost a senior staff member when you were dissatisfied with the response from our reception staff. The staff member concerned did enquire with reception as to the situation and was satisfied that we had indeed offered you a good alternative which you chose not to accept. The comment with regards to being “overlooked” is also incredibly unfair. Unless you are aware of the logistics of managing a Hotel with 148 rooms, 8 different room types and arrivals and departures 7 days per week, it is not merely a matter of moving you to a room that you deem is “free”. As we had offered you an alternative, which you refused, and as you did not return to reception (as you state you did) to discuss the matter with us further, we accepted that the matter was resolved. On a personal note, as a guest who has stayed with us on so many occasions and who has such positive comments to make about their holiday experience with us both during this stay and on previous occasions, it is incredibly disappointing to see that you have immediately sought to publicly damage the business by reviewing the hotel so negatively in a public forum. We would also like to state that since you wrote this review, and despite saying that it was “unlikely” that you would return, you have contacted the hotel directly to ask if we would guarantee a specific block and floor so that you can book again. We advised you that we could not guarantee this. We would also like to state that you also made rude and hurtful comments to our bar staff about our reception staff and the fact that you had not been allocated the room you wanted. This was both uncomfortable for the staff concerned to listen to but also, incredibly disrespectful as a guest considering the number of years that you have stayed with us and enjoyed your holidays with us.We wish you the very best in finding a Hotel that can meet with your specific expectations in the future.   Visited as a single parent and had a great time. This hotel is the perfect location. Shop on site, 5 minutes from the beach. Pool area was clean, staff in people’s bar are so lovely. Visited in October. All the entertainment starts 10.30+ so not good for little ones. The pool was freezing Overall I felt safe and would return as a single parent.
