    Could be better

    rating31 Jul 2025

No one at the airport in Rhodes to meet me, I had to ask around to find out where I should be, then eventually I found my transfer.. after 90 mins I arrived from Rhodes airport to the hotel. My room has south facing balcony and Pool area, nice landscaped grounds, on main road so lots of traffic. They still play 80's music in the bars in the distance but rooms have good doors and soundproofing, and the road has less traffic in the evening.Aircon is great, well needed but did leak a lot and had to be fixed and fridge welcome. Bathroom clean and tidy, but missing a sliding door on the shower cubicle which meant I had to lay a towel on the floor each time I showered. Looks newly upgraded/ decorated, but watching the TV a no go, all channels have very poor reception on for 5 mins, then off for 10. as the maintenance guy tried and confirmed only netflix account works well, safety deposit boxes,€10per week, no phones or rubbish bins in the rooms, Free WiFi in hotel areas.Basic cold breakfast, sliced meats, cheese bread, cereals and jams, hot water and milk, for old style Nescafé "coffee"sachets.2 supermarkets close by within 100m, Takis the best value, bag of crisps €2Fridge magnet €1.50. Mythos beer €2, water 0.80c for 1.5Li, 2.50 for 5Li.Most Restaurants charging €5+ for mythos and salads starting at €8Sun loungers on lardos beach €7 for the day, €6 to Rhodes town on the bus. Nothing on the beach either way for a mile, very pebbly and very rocky, unless like me you enjoy climbing and discovering then you'll enjoy the tranquility of rock pools with snorkeling in clear water. Some guests have said that there have been complaints at more expensive hotels, South on the beach where it meets the road, from mosquitoes. This is probably due to the river and stagnant water there.NegativesAlm areas of Rhodes , lots of rubbish laying next to the road, also around beach areas, even some in the water when I was snorkeling. Some small items of plastic on beach, occasional empty cup or bottle. Especially the beaches in front of the larger hotels, lots of plastic cups on the beach and black straws. Chef in the kitchen at the hotel, (poppies garden) not great at health and safety numerous occasions I saw him smoking next to the kitchen, then straight back to work without washing hands. I've seen him use his hands on his face, and touch the food after without using tongs. Also feed the white boxer dog snacks from the kitchen by hand without washing after.. For this reason I didn't eat at the hotel a single time apart from breakfast. Watch out for the dog meds next to the pool, each day it relieves itself there..The sun lounger cushions could do with changing, or cleaning. Reception is hit and miss even when times of use are shown it's not often you will find help there. It's Greece!!You will have to go to the bar area where the staff congregate, most speak basic English. Location is ok close to shops, restaurants, Lardos itself is a 30 minute walk, some parts are still not developed, with broken down cars and bikes, empty buildings and litter in most places. There is a good supermarket there that's cheap for most things a good coffee shop (Megusto) and a decent restaurant next door though on the main road.. When you go to Greece you have to accept that change is not going to happen to make your experience better, so embrace it if you can or accept it before you go. Bus stop to Rhodes across the road and beach 2 mins away, it is a budget hotel, so luxury is not expected, but the room was cleaned well. It's just under 2 hours to Rhodes, €6 each way. When you arrive the return ticket can be bought from the roadside booth, 50m behind where the bus stopped. €6 for a small coffee at the airport, definitely not worth the money unless you are desperate, but the coffee is on par to that of the flight so maybe if you can wait...

Perfect in every way - you will not regret staying here if you are considering it.

Wow!! This place is a little piece of heaven. Perfectly situated right near a beautiful beach (pebbly with sandy patches but we didn’t mind this at all- always quiet and a super restaurant and beach bar to drink and eat good food). Many restaurants also on door step, we never had a bad a meal and also reasonably priced. Our room was faultless, modern with beautiful balcony and lovely furniture. The place is absolutely immaculate, I don’t know how they do it but everywhere you look is spotless. Cleaners visited every day, made beds, changed sheets and plenty of new towels. The pool was a stunning retreat, always able to get a sun bed and in the sun all day. Drinks were available and are also reasonably priced. The service was outstanding. Friendly and welcoming staff who can’t do enough for you without being intrusive. Guests were respectful and it was peaceful at all times. No blaring music here so could relax without fear. The hotel is bang opposite the bus stop with regular buses to Lindos, Pethkos and Rhodes old town so everything was accessible. We enjoyed trips to Symi and Lindos - must dos if you are staying here. Rhodes is probably the most magical Greek island we have been to. Everyone is so friendly, from the restaurants, bars, taxi drivers (we had one stop whilst we were waiting for a bus at lindos who drove passed and saw us hiding in a rock crevice from the sun!!). We have already started looking at returning as soon as we can. The Sunshine Hotel in Lardos deserves accolades for the service and hospitality it provides for customers who leave feeling at home and valued. Thank you so so much. Hope to see you soon. Don’t change a thing.

Excellent hotel, great staff, wonderful area!

    rating13 May 2025

Following the recommendation of this hotel, my husband and I decided to have a week away. We have been visiting the Pefkos/Lardos area for the last 25 years but usually stay in a villa with our family, but this time it was just the two of us.On arrival, we found the hotel to be quiet, well kept, and in an excellent location for the beach, walks into Lardos, walks into Pefkos, and trips on the local buses. A few very minor issues with our room were all very quickly resolved in a professional manner by the staff on site. Adequate continental breakfast came as part of our holiday package, but full English breakfast option is available to pay for if desired. We had lunch in the hotel - gyro & souvlaki, which was delicious and reasonably priced.Nice pool area with plenty of sunbeds for the number of guests staying at the hotel, with a very friendly atmosphere throughout the small complex.Would definitely recommend it and will be looking to return soon! Thank you!

    DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL

The balcony door didn't lock and we were told "we've never had a break in"!!! The bed and towels weren't changed despite being told it would be done twice a week. There was no hot water for 4 days. The shower leaked into the hallway outside the room. The shower and sink were not cleaned during our 2 week stay. The bedroom was dusty. The fridge was broken and stained inside. The pool area was tatty.Thr breakfast was poor and very limited.

    A hidden gem

It isn’t a fancy hotel but rooms are modern and clean, tastefully decorated with comfy beds and a decent sized balcony. Nice pool and sunbeds always available.I stayed in a room at the back on the 2nd floor and it was very quiet.Decent storage in room and has a mini fridge and good aircon.Only downside was breakfast. Take your own coffee and teabags and perhaps muesli/cereal.Manager Christina was very helpful in providing local info. The family restaurant next door also does great cocktails!! Bus stop right outside and buses are regular and run til late.Lardos is quite small with a handful of nice restaurants and the (pebble) beach is only a 3 min walk from hotel. Lindos is only a 20min bus ride and there’s a travel shop 2 mins walk from hotel to arrange trips around the island. As a solo female traveller, I felt very safe both at the hotel and in the local area. Locals are very friendly.I would def recommend this place if you want a chilled, laid back break. One of the best holidays I’ve had in a long time.
