    Pleasant surprise!

    rating08 Sept 2015

Originaly booked the Drossos Hotel with 'On the beach' travel agents, so on arrival I entered the hotel to be greeted by George, only to be told that as I was Room only and single occupancy I was in 'The Annexe'! I was was somewhat taken aback at this as I had read some poor reviews of this annexe! George took me in his car to my destination ( some 300yds away.) Showed me my room and left.. In the morning I had time to reflect upon it all. My room was clean, slightly dated but served my needs adequently. This Annexe is no such thing. It is a seperate hotel called IRA Family Vassalos, run by Papa, Mama, Fratzesco and Maria, who catered for anything you required. "Of course we can" was the phrase I heard most days. These are a wonderful examples as to how guests should be treated. As mentioned my room was cleaned everyday with fresh towels and sheets provided regulary. A pleasant surprise was the continental breakfast was included in the price! Air conditioning and room safe were also included. The pool is beautiful and somtimes I had the luxury of its use to myself in the afternoon. The hotel is situated about 200 yds of the main road and set in a quiet location.A short stroll and you are on the main Perissa road with bars and restaurants. Another 100 yds beyond this road you will reach the beachfront, with it's excellent array of restaurants along it's black sandy beach.I only stayed for one week, buth wished it could have been longer. I intend to return next season, but I will book direct with the Vassalos family. This holday gave me great and lovely memories and staying here and meeting such lovely people were a part of that.Thank you for my stay - I shall return.

    Beautiful hotel with lovely people

    rating20 Aug 2015

I travelled to Santorini with my Contiki tour and we were all very pleased with this accommodation. It is a small, very cute and pretty, family owned hotel. The staff there are so friendly, and always make you feel a part of the family! The location was really good with Oia approximately a 30 minute drive away and pretty central to all the main spots you would like to visit. Also there is a bus stop (that can take you really anywhere), bakery and shop to get all the essentials just walking distance from the hotel. As I was with a tour I can't speak much for price but the rooms are quite basic, all you need, especially as I am someone who is not fussed with accommodation. The bathrooms were basic too with the shower not having curtains but it adds to the European experience! As for beauty, this hotel is so pretty. Very white with blue doors and plants all around to further brighten it up, I definitely felt that I was in Greece! The pool and bar area is fantastic, a very sizeable pool with places to lounge around and soak up the sun. Great little drinks and nibbles can be purchased for a very reasonable price!Maria was a staff member who definitely stood out, she is always so warm and friendly! When I sent in my favourite white shorts and a white top in for washing (which were cleaned perfectly by the way, I have never seen them that clean and soft!!) I accidentally left them on my bed and forgot to pack them. I called the hotel and Maria went out of her way to find them for me and when she did she posted it back to Australia for me!!! She is such a gem and definitely made our stay more enjoyable! I will definitely be returning to the Family Vassalos when I return to Santorini! I highly reccomend this place to anyone travelling to Santorini!

Myself, brother and sister stayed here for 5 nights. Amazing people that welcome you every morning with a smile. Always happy to help, give advice, offer anything you need. Maria was amazing and she made our stay at Santorini just that much better. When I come back we will definitely stay here again.

    A traditional Greek family welcome

    rating01 Jul 2015

We have just returned from our 4 days on the island of Santorini. We were lucky enough to stay at Family Vassalos apartments - what an excellent stay! The family, forefronted by Maria, we're so welcoming and made us feel very at home. Nothing was too much trouble and we were treated like family. The apartments are traditional Mediterranean / Aegean - clean, tidy and comfortable but with a few mod-cons added such as air conditioning, cooking equipment, fridges and crockery. The pool was lovely and clean and the poolside bar adequately serving drinks and snacks during the day - food cooked fresh and to perfection - the English Breakfast a particular favourite! Family Vassalos would suit anyone - singles, couples, friends and family. Thank you for a delightful visit. See you next year.

Lovely friendly family with great service (& travel tips)

    rating13 Oct 2014

IRA Family VassalosWe visited IRA FAMILY VASSALOS's studios (BLUE FRAMES) both in June and again September/October this year. The Vassalos family are friendly, helpful and even gave their own toaster to a guest that asked for one! Maria works in the hotel during the summer holidays and holds down a full time job from 2 - 11 pm during school time. She is so helpful and obliging, nothing is too much trouble and her family are all equally as friendly. Ireni, the mother, speaks very little English, but communicates very well with smiles and gestures. The apartments are basic, but cleaned and bins emptied every day and linen, towels and bathmats changed every other day. As Greekophiles we are not surprised to have to hold the shower and, when the apartments are full, find that the water is not so hot at the end of the day. We only use the fridge but not the cooking facilities, although I am sure that the Vassalos family would endeavour to rectify any shortcomings in cooking equipment, if they were made aware of them. For those that complain about the water, Santorini has no lakes or rivers and very few springs, which means that the tap water is from a desalination plant and tastes rather unpleasant, but bottled water won’t break the bank! We also take a travel kettle with us, as these are not generally provided. The bakery at the end of the road is fantastic, offering a range of savoury and sweet products and open 24/7.The bus service is fantastic and prices based on using Fira as the central hub. A single to Fira from Perissa is E2.20 and from Fira to Oia is E1.60, therefore you can travel the whole length of the island for E3.80. Both Oia and Fira are the tourist attractions and were really busy even at the end of the season. The bus company is very well organised to convey visitors back from Oia after the sunset, which is always very crowded. We rented a car for a day to visit the few places we couldn’t reach by bus. Really recommend visiting Emborio old town – take the path to the right of the large church in the village square and follow the signs to the castle. Cave dwellings, narrow whitewashed paths and three churches rise up unexpectedly as you round the corner. Pirgos town is similar and the view from Profitis Ilias (highest point on island) is amazing. We visited the three churches there, but missed the museum – go to the top of the hill and through the door below the bells! We also walked from Perissa to Kamari, using the footpath down from the saddle, (a scramble or walk down the road to the third bend – quite a way - to pick it up), which has a lovely old church with the original spring that was used by Ancient Thera. You can then take the water taxi back from Kamari to Perissa. The walk between Fira and Oia along the caldera is amazing and well worth the effort – it is well marked and, apart from a short walk along the main road, is completely separate from it, with various alternative routes. (About 12/15 km). Lovely island - highly recommended.
