    Dated, mildew smelly rooms

    rating13 Apr 2026

I booked a room at around 10 pm and showed up within the 20 minutes later. I was given a room that faced a brick wall. In addition the room had a terrible mildew smell that I couldn't take breathing for more than a few minutes. After requesting to change to a different room I was categorically denied a replacement even though the hotel was empty. I hauled my luggage up and down steep stairs and pushed a luggage cart through long hallways. Once my luggage was back in the car then the receptionist informed me that he'll upgrade my room. I requested to see the second room and one of the other hotel staff took me there. To no surprise the second room was just as stinky as the first one. The smell was gagging. I declined the substation and was told that I'll get a full refund and the general manager was supposed to approve it in the morning. It's been over 2 weeks and I'm still trying to get my refund. The manager declined my initial request stating that since I was given a substitution I don't deserve a refund which is absolutely not what the receptionist assured me the night I was there. It feels like these people are unprofessional and scam tourists any time they can.

    Highly recommend!

    rating04 Mar 2026

What a great historic location. We could fault our recent stay at The cliff House from check in, to wait staff and the grounds. I have read comments about it being tired, I disagree, I didn't get that feeling at all. The place is old but the room was comfortable and large. The bed was great (especially after the incline). The restaurant was great and the bar was equally as good. It was lovely sitting outside besides the fire. Could be anymore closer to town Main Street. Would recommend and stay again. Thank you for a great stay. Kate Martinez, Guest Services / Front Office at The Cliff House At Pikes Peak, responded to this review Hello TravellerKHN, Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the historic charm of the property and found your room comfortable and spacious. It’s wonderful to know that our bed, restaurant, bar, and outdoor fire area all contributed to a memorable stay. Your kind recommendation means a lot to us, and we can’t wait to welcome you back for another great visit!Take care and travel safe!

Historic Charm Undermined by Wear and Tear

    rating28 Feb 2026

Our family has loved The Cliff House at Pikes Peak for decades. My grandmother helped save it from demolition in the 1990s, so this hotel has always been deeply meaningful to us. The staff remains warm and professional, and the historic charm is still present — but the condition of the hotel itself is a major disappointment. The décor screams “late‑90s luxury,” yet the chairs, linens, and robes are visibly worn, starting to look shabby, not chic. During this visit, which was for my grandmother’s funeral, we couldn’t hold our traditional family brunch at the hotel. The buffet is gone, and à la carte breakfast over $20 per entrée made it cost-prohibitive, which was especially upsetting given the family tradition. The Cliff House has such a rich history and a special place in the community. Until management invests in serious refurbishments, families and travelers should be aware that while the service is excellent, the accommodations no longer match four-star expectations. Kate Martinez, Guest Services / Front Office at The Cliff House At Pikes Peak, responded to this review Hello codyjoco, Thank you for your review. With in the last two weeks, we have been purchased by another company. There are plans to invest $4.5 million to start for renovating our historic building. If you go to our Facebook page you will see a post that has a couple renderings of the vision for the lobby bar and dining room. We are looking to elegance and elevation. With the breakfast buffet, it is hard to keep it presentable and fresh for 4 hours, especially at a $20 price point. Our a la carte breakfast menu has offerings from $12 to $22. with most items at $18. This way every guest is insured a fresh meal. We hope you will come back and visit us to see the gorgeous renovations we are undertaking.

Historic, Romantic, Great Value...a bit dated

    rating01 Jan 2026

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary by staying at this hotel. We've stayed here several times over the past decade. We had a suite that included a gas fireplace, mountain view, and large hot tub--and it was a very good value. The ambiance, especially during the holiday season is fantastic--charming, historic, and romantic. But it has gone downhill over the years, and they seem to have stopped touching up and renovating as most places would. But on the other hand, the history is part of the charm and it was a good value. Kate Martinez, Guest Services / Front Office at The Cliff House At Pikes Peak, responded to this review Hello,Thank you for sharing your thoughtful review! We’re so happy you were able to celebrate your anniversary with us and enjoyed the suite, the ambiance, and the charm of the holiday season. We truly appreciate your perspective on the historic character of the hotel, it’s part of what makes the Cliff House unique.Take Care and Travel Safe

Great service made up for an issue with the room.

    rating30 Dec 2025

The hotel is nice and well maintained. Comfortable bedding and the bar/grill has nice affordable options. We had an issue with the room, however director Cara, I believe is her name handled everything professionally and thoroughly to make up for the issue we were having with the room. What could have ruined an evening was made up by the professionalism and kindness shown by Cara. Thank you. Kate Martinez, Guest Services / Front Office at The Cliff House At Pikes Peak, responded to this review Hello,Thank you for taking the time to share your experience! We’re so glad Kara was able to turn the situation around and make your evening enjoyable. It’s wonderful to hear you appreciated the service, comfort, and overall charm of the hotel.Take Care and Travel Safe
