  The most unwelcome of welcomes ANYWHERE ever !!!

  Arrived here approximately 7 hours late due to weather conditions preventing landing on Skiathos. Waited 5 hours on the plane atThessaloniki. Finally arrived at Villa Maraki around 8.30 pm. Tired, hungry and just fancied a nice cold beer in the bar area which is advertised as friendly and everyone welcome. Absolutely not true. The most unwelcome miserable reception I’ve ever received ANYWHERE. Small enclosed bar area that stank of cigarettes ( smoking not allowed in enclosed areas, accommodation rules !!) my request for a large cold beer was met with sarcastic laughter and I was given a small bottle of non alcoholic beer which I declined. No word of welcome, nothing. Just a demand for my room tax. I was hastily shown to my room without explanation of anything, then I went back down the steps to bring my case back up. On booking I was given a high floor room with sea views however this is not the room I was allocated. My view from my outdoor table was a white wall and steps to the main road. Chose this accommodation because of the pool and bar area. Such an unwelcome place the management if that’s who the people supposedly running this place are, never once said good morning, how are you , nothing , until the morning that the Jet2 rep was due to visit at 1.15 that afternoon, suddenly the woman who took the room tax smiled and said Kalimera. I would like to have spoken to the rep in front of these people but who wants to break up their day to voice an opinion about a management team that clearly dont give a damn. Hope the owners know how damaging having these people run this place will be. Jet 2 also, have a word, this is not a budget place to stay and when you can’t utilise the facilities as they’re unwelcoming or not open as the bar seldom was then you shouldn’t be taking people’s money. Cleaning lady 5 star. Location great. If you want to stay somewhere clean but utterly miserable with no atmosphere then this is the place for you

  I arrived 24 hours later than expected after a terrible flight which ended with me staying overnight in Thessaloniki due to bad weather. I have never felt so unwelcome anywhere in Greece before. I had to fight my way through several people who I assume were friends/family of the lady who checked me in? No mention of the fact I was a day late, she was just interested in me paying the room tax. There was no interaction from them at all during my stay, they just sat in the bar smoking, despite notices saying no smoking allowed. I am 75 and was left to struggle down about 30 steps with my suitcase on my last day. The weather was terrible during my stay and it might have been nice to sit in the bar and pass the time but I never saw anyone in there apart from the ‘hosts’ smoking.It’s such a shame as the property is in a great position with lots of friendly tavernas and restaurants nearby and the lovely cleaning lady did a sterling job of keeping the room clean.Several other guests I spoke to had the same opinion. Things certainly need to change if they want repeat customers. I certainly won’t be going back!

  Not a welcome or help through out the week

  We have just returned from a week at the Villa Maraki ,we arrive at 10 pm, to be unwelcomed by staff only interested in taking our 14 euros local tax , no assistance to help us up flights of stairs, by then it was dark. No help offered at all through out the week. The apartments were adequate and the situation ok.On our last day we were being picked up at 7pm ,we asked for a facilityto shower, before we left, we offered to pay for use of a room, but we were told no room available, we were eventually offered the use of the staff shower room in the basement, not ideal.We had no helped with our suitcases down a flight of steps ,and a steep slope.The staff were not helpful at all , so don’t expect a welcome.

  Tense atmosphere and unprofessional staff

  At first glance, the hotel appears welcoming and pleasant. The rooms are comfortable, and the pool is enjoyable. But appart from the cleaning lady who is very sweet, the staff is weird, mostly sitting around smoking and being useless to the clients, which felt unprofessional. We struggled a couple of time to open the umbrellas and they never offer any help. On our second day, while we were sitting at the pool, one staff started to scream at the other. As the situation was becoming very unpleasant, when we asked them to lower their voices, one of them replied rudely. Two of the children were so frightened that they locked themselves in their room. Yes like in a movie :) This tense atmosphere completely ruined our stay. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place for a relaxing holiday.

  Relaxation in the sun

  Just back from a fabulous week in sunny Skiathos. Villa Maraki is a lovely clean, friendly and well located hotel just a 15 minute bus ride from Skiathos Town ( at bus stop 16) and just 2 euros each). The pool area isn't massive but we never had trouble finding a sun lounger. The pool bar is conveniently located and snacks are served starting from breakfast onwards. The cocktails were lovely and not overpriced. Rooms are cleaned daily and towels changed twice during our stay. Apartments have ample cooking facilities for self catering with 2 supermarkets within 3 minutes walk away in either direction. The lovely beach is just a 5 minute walk away. Lots of sunbeds there and a beach bar.Everybody seems to head to Skiathos Town in the evening and it's a really fantastic place.. dont miss it!.I would definitely return to Skiathos and would also stay at Villa Maraki again too. What a lovely week we've had!
