Awful - lets down the beautiful resort of Alykanas

    rating02 Nov 2025

We had booked a two bedroom room and a double room, upon check in we explained that we had requested a ground floor room for the double room but was told that both of our rooms were next door to each other on the second floor. This proved really difficult for the member of our party with mobility issues meaning she had the demeaning experience of having to be helped upstairs and downstairs by her grandchildren each day. When this was explained to the staff at the hotel we were told there was nothing that could be done as the hotel was full, despite us being in contact with the hotel since January of that year to explain these issues and request the ground floor room that we were assured would be allocated to us.The standard of the rooms was barely two star, let alone the four star that had been advertised to us.There were numerous issues including poor standards of cleaning and maintenance across both rooms. In the two bedroom family room, the bathroom was in an awful state, the roof was covered in what looked like industrial plastic foam and various other stains whilst there was exposed lagging in the bathroom ceiling. The toilet and sink was absolutely filthy where it looked like bleach or any sort of cleaning product hadn’t been used for a very long time. The shower head was covered in dirt and limescale, as were the bath taps whilst the shower itself is positioned in the middle of the bath meaning that the shower then sprays water across the bathroom, which with two young children and an older guest with mobility issues is extremely dangerous. To compound matters there was a broken grid in the centre of the bathroom that had the overflow from the shower of water and soap bubbles push out in to the centre of the bathroom floor every time someone attempted to have a shower, which made the floor dangerous. The bathroom door handle was very stiff , meaning both my wife and our young son were locked in the bathroom on several occasions until they could be freed.Elsewhere the cleaning across the apartment was extremely poor, beds weren’t made with much regularity and there was no sign of any sweeping or dusting taking place. There was hair, sand and dust in the corners of the room from previous guests whilst the two glasses and mugs in the room were not cleaned for our whole fortnight, clearly showing toothpaste marks and that they were dirty, they were rinsed and replaced as clean ones next to the kettle when they had not been cleaned. On the balcony the clothes airer was bent out of shape and hanging off the wall meaning it was un-useable and nearly fell on one of the children. We were having to use the chairs on our balcony to dry clothes.During our second week, the door handle fell off the double room that we had booked meaning my elderly mother in law had to head to reception in searing heat to tell them and ask that they could replace the door handle to allow her to re-enter her apartment.Around the pools there are various bits that have broken tiles and mouldy grout & tiles, in particular the children’s splash park that is badly in need of some maintenance. On our first time in the splash park our youngest cut his foot open at the side of the pool. Upon informing the life guard I received a shrug of the shoulders. To cap everything off there is a severe lack of working sunbeds, most sunbeds we encountered were broken with snapped pieces of metal jutting out. There was no effort to remove these by the hotel staff instead they were left mangled in various places without being removed or indeed repaired. On one afternoon, there were 6 broken sunbeds around the waterpark, one elderly gent hurt his back, falling through one of the beds and other guests were left to have accidents and turn the broken beds on their side and move them next to the fence out of the way. The hotel didn’t move them or deal with so each day, other guests who were unaware of these problems, were getting the same broken beds out to use until they also realised they were broken.

Not a 4 Star hotel anymore

    rating25 Oct 2025

We have stayed the Alykanas Village Hotel a couple of years ago, and had a nice stay... However, this time we noticed that nothing had been done and the hotel looked like it was just collecting money and no maintenance work had been done in a long time. Our room had a beautiful view but the bathroom was mouldy with cracks in the tub that had only been caulked as a fix and it looked very dirty. The shower was not very good and there was very little chance of keeping water in the tub which made a slip hazard and used extra towels to keep the floor dry. The TV and AC were broke when we arrived, but they were fixed and the fridge never worked. The door to the room was not fitted very well and large gaps at the floor level and Gecko's often came in to the room under the door. There are many trip hazards around the site and I did fall and dislocate my shoulder. The bar was always dead maybe only 1 or 2 people there. The people on site although appeared friendly were not very good with speaking English. The Tourist tax that is paid in Greece, could only be paid in cash and Passports were held until you paid. The Tourist tax was set at max amount as well. The location is great but this did not make up for the, dirty looking bathroom, poor quality of food, lack of atmosphere, prices at the pool restaurant/bar, music. It was far cheaper to go to the shop and get food in and make your own lunch.Overall, it was not a 4 Star hotel and will not be staying there again. They need to up their game as there are several new hotels being built in the area. It is a shame as it could be put back to a 4 Star hotel with not that much work being done.

A great location but not quite four star

    rating04 Oct 2025

In our opinion the hotel is not a four star however its a good 3+.The reception area and bar is pleasant and welcoming and the staff are very accommodating. Our room was tried and in need of modernisation the bathroom is very small with a shower over the bath not the best as personnel preference would be a shower only but the room did have a sea view and balcony. We had a problem with the toilet not working which was fixed within 20 min. Breakfast was okay, you would be quite picky if you could not find something to eat, coffee was poor tasting. The complex itself is in a great location and the pools are good with a lovely beach on your doorstep. In general we enjoyed our stay but picked the wrong week as it poured down at times, on the Sunday for 12 hours which left the roads flooded and we had to paddle back to the hotel which was funny, a fairly mixed bag of weather over the week but what can you do about that.

Not a great hotel . Needs improvement .

    rating03 Oct 2025

This hotel is not worthy of 4 stars, 2 at a push. We stayed in the old block. Some things we could overlook but sadly the hotel is run for the convenience of the staff and not paying customers.Examples of this :1. Very, very hard matressess , not changed when I asked for a softer one.2. The bed was not made up - The bottom sheet was on the bed but the top sheet was left folded on top of the bed. Duvets in the cupboard with no covers on them!!!! This allowed us to see the stains on them. Pillow cases stained. 3. No toiletries as you would expect in a 4 star. Just 2 pump soap dispensers by the sink and shower. 4. Toilet paper bin not initially removed for 3 days . 5. Works canteen, ooops it was the restaurant ! No tables laid you had to help yourself to cutlery . A bit concerning following the pandemic and a family reporting D&V. However, it did enable the young waitress to lean against the canteen wall every morning to eat and drink. The other 2 staff need customer service training , no welcome, no eye contact - just rude. I guess wearing a hoodie and baseball cap sets the scene. If you want a fried egg be prepared to wait and wait and wait. Breakfast was basic, not sure what the bacon was reconstituted from ? Bar staff welcoming and helpful. Prices of drinks / food very reasonable. Communal areas clean, pool cleaned thoroughly. Sun loungers old but comfy. No entertainment but that was great as many fab restaurants and bars nearby.Location great. Sadly the beach was not cleaned of plastics. So much washed up on the beach and a turtle nest by the hotel steps. Please use my tourist tax to clean the beach to protect marine life. Why does the hotel insist you pay tourist tax in cash and cash for the hotel safe ??? Legally they should give you the option of a card payment for the tax. This could be a great hotel , perhaps a change of management to run it as a 4 star ?? We have been to Greece many times and always go to a 4 star so feel confident that this is not . The staff maybe tired after a long season but we are still paying customers .

Great hotel in a good location

    rating30 Aug 2025

We love this place. The beach is a stone throw away. Gently sloping into the warm water. Good location for the bars and restaurants. Honestly cannot say a bad word about this place.
