  Stayed at Holiday Inn Express Hong Kong Mongkok as a Diamond Elite member. While the location is convenient, the room condition was disappointing. The bathroom had visible mould in the shower and the room felt musty, raising hygiene concerns.I raised this with the duty manager, but no meaningful resolution or goodwill gesture was offered, and the response felt indifferent. As a result, I had to escalate the issue to IHG directly.The room was also not upgraded. While I understand upgrades are not guaranteed, I would at least expect a clean and properly maintained room. Overall, this stay fell below expectations, particularly in terms of cleanliness and service recovery.

However, don’t expect the customer service or manner like resorts .The rooms are clean, comfortable, and the location makes it easy to reach local restaurants and shopping areas. It’s a practical choice for travelers who want convenience without paying premium prices.Things to note: the hotel doesn’t provide complimentary bottled water, the bathtub area can have a slight smell, and it’s about a 400‑meter walk to the nearest MTR station. Overall, it’s a simple and functional stay for short trips.

  Terrible Hotel Experience – Best to Avoid

  I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Mongkok, Hong Kong, for 5 nights from September 25 to 30, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had.The room had a persistent unpleasant odor that couldn't be eliminated, regardless of whether I used the air conditioning or room fan. Even worse, the in-room safe was completely non-functional. No matter what buttons I pressed, it kept displaying an error message and would not open.I had to call room service twice, and it took about 20 minutes for someone to arrive—causing significant stress and almost making me miss my flight. When the service technician finally showed up, his attitude was rude and dismissive. Instead of assisting professionally, he began by saying, “You’re just sitting quietly,” which felt accusatory. When I asked what the issue was, he curtly replied, “Do you want to get your stuff? Let me work on it.” I told him I would be rating the hotel one star due to this experience, to which he arrogantly responded, “Go ahead.”If possible, I highly recommend avoiding this hotel. Poor service and unresolved maintenance issues can quickly ruin what should be a great trip to Hong Kong.

  There are no MTR stations close by, so if you are carrying luggage, you’ll have to grab a taxi. However, the hotel is a bit hard to find for taxi drivers. Apart from that, the location is good.Check-in is quick and efficient, and the staff speaks reasonable English.Rooms are good sized, compared to Hong Kong standards. The room décor is a bit dated and the AC fan is very loud but apart from that, the rooms are actually fine.The free breakfast is mediocre, but OK to get your day started, and the breakfast staff are really nice and friendly.I will definitely consider Holiday Inn Express Mongkok again next time.
