WORST, SCAM, THIEVES! All in all is "NEST OF EVILS"

"what you see and paid is NOT what you get when you checked-in"Let me share to you our story last year with this hostel. We booked 3 family rooms but the HKStar hostel gave us 2 family rooms only. The expected rooms booked online is not what they gave us when we checked-in. The rooms are dirty, stinks and unpleasant, so small that we couldn't even move. The room was just a size of a typical bunk beds here in our country. Even our CR is definitely wide than their rooms. The staff are rude, not taking a bath because they are wearing the same clothes they wore since we checked-in until our checked out for five-days stay, they do not initiate to give us complimentary items to use such as toiletries, tea, coffee and robes or even attend to our needs. The air conditioner is not working, the water heater only work for certain time and a lot more. So that’s a quick review of the hotel.How about the staff? The staff are rude, thieves, horrible, demons, scammer, unwelcoming, unfriendly, unsociable, uncongenial, cold, glacial, standoffish, haughty, disdainful, indifferent, offhand, uncivil, discourteous, ungracious; ungenerous, unkind, unsympathetic, ill-disposed, hostile, inimical, xenophobic, shameful, shocking, scandalous, despicable, contemptible... In short, EVIL. Many guest are complaining about their booking since we checked in last year. If they will not change your rooms, they will change your scheduled booking and make some alibis to appear that you are the one at fault. That was really disgusting about them. You would really regret booking in this hostel.They took our money equivalent to the amount of reservation (3 family rooms for 5 nights stay) for deposit but they did not return it upon our check-out. This is because they said we had booked twice via booking.com which we were not aware of because we did not receive any confirmation on the 1st try of our booking at booking.com. We asked assistance from booking.com and they told us that their system has been in error on the date we first tried to booked at that hostel and that's why we did not received any confirmation of successful booking and that this has been cancelled. They tried to talk with the manager, but manager refused to talk with the booking.com representative.We asked their consideration and a manager told us that they could NOT return our money and the only way he could do as "manager" and to relieve our insistence to refund our money is to convert it to a voucher equivalent to "2 family rooms for 4-night stay" valid from 3 May 2018 until 3 May 2019. He said we could sell the voucher and email him at least 7 days before the scheduled date of planned stay. Moreover, he promised us that he would personally accommodate us or those who bought the voucher for their stay at the hostel. So we were relieved and just accept the voucher to sell for those interested to stay at their hostel. Luckily, there is no one who bought our voucher so we decided to return at HK and use the voucher.I emailed the manager named “Jack Li”, but a staff named “Rex” respond to my email. He acknowledged my voucher and asked me to fill up a form that they will use as reference for our booking reservation. I indicated in the form that we will be arriving at the Hong Kong on 3 April 2019 at 11:35 PM (scheduled arrival based on my flight schedule) and we’ll arrived at the HKStar Hostel on 4 April 2019. The flight had a delay making us to arrive at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) at 1:40 AM on 4 April 2019. We spent our time until 5 am at the HKIA and headed to HK Star hostel. We arrived at 6:30 AM at the hostel but no one is at the reception area. We waited until a staff came in and asked the receptionist (same rude old man we encountered last year) about Mr. Jack Li and we had presented our voucher. He told us to come back at 2 pm because he said that they could only accommodate check-in of guest at 2 PM. We returned at HK tar hostel at 1:30 pm but an old lady told us that she can't accommodate us so we need to come back at around 3 pm or 3:30 pm. Imagine how many times we've been passed by their staff from one time to another just for us to get a check in? We've been roaming the city with our luggage instead of us roaming without it. Is that a service?We went back at 3:30 pm on the same day and ask one of their receptionist (a tall dark man) about Mr. Li but he said we could ask him instead. So we showed him our voucher and our email conversation and he referred us to a short white chinese lady who could possibly accommodate us. Then we were surprised when she told us that they could not accommodate us because (i) they've been expecting us to show up on April 3, 2019 and (ii) we did not show up at the hostel and (iii) nobody with her colleague told her that we went earlier (around 6am) on April 4, 2019 to check-in that’s why she gave our booking reservation to another guest. I explained to her our side and said that: (i) in the email, we clearly indicated that we will be arriving at HK star hostel on 4 April 2019 NOT 3 April 2019;(ii) our flight had delay on 3 April 2019 so instead of arriving at 11:35 pm of 3 April 2019 at HKIA, we arrived at 1:40 am of 4 April 2019 so we stayed there until 5 am; and(iii) we arrived at HK star hostel at 6:30 am but nobody is in the reception therefore we waited until one of your staff (rude old man) came around 8 am. The same old man told us to come back at 2 pm check-in time.When we explained it to her, we thought that they will consider our explanation and will give our room for 3 nights, but she told us that they could only provide us 1 deluxe room for a night. She also said that we need to check out at 11 am on the next day (5 April 2019) because it is already reserved for another guest. I explained to her about the voucher but she deducted two (2) nights on our supposed four (4)-night stay at HK star hostel and insisted that we need to check-out. She said that if there will be changes with the guest reservation, she will let us use the same room until 7 April 2019. We still insisted our side but she did not listen. We hoped on the same day that we could talk with Mr. Li [because they said he will report at the hostel] and reconsider us. However, Mr. Li evaded to show up to us. We asked one of his staff if he had arrived and they told us that he went there but he immediately left already the hostel. It shows clearly that he manipulated the situation and withdraws as possible his obligation about the voucher.At 7 am of 5 April 2019, we asked the old lady if the short white Chinese lady is already at the reception so we could ask her if the room we used is still available. However, she told us that the latter instructed her that we should leave the used deluxe room, which is far beyond the room Mr. Li showed us last year for our accommodation if ever we decide to come back at their hostel and that he would personally give to us so we could still use our paid money that they did not want to return. I told her about the paid rooms last year and the voucher they gave instead of returning our money, but she said “last year is last year”. What was that mean? They really do not intend us to use the voucher at the onset. All the voucher thing is just an escape that he could provide us to cover up their scam and to steal our money. It would be much better if they had let us stay at the hostel because we paid it already last year than us complaining this thing and providing this feedback. You know what? I kept myself from telling all the experiences we suffered at HK star hostel and giving them bad feedbacks on any travel platforms because of the voucher and the promise Mr. Li promised us. He is not a man to keep his promise. He is just the same evil man like his colleague or staff.We return on 5 April 2019 at 2 PM at HK Star hostel to ask the same lady if we could still use the room because we can’t find any other hostel that has vacant room to accommodate us. But all she can say is “sorry”? We also took courage to made some negotiation to exchange the 2 more nights left on the voucher that has validity until 3 May 2019 for another night just to give us time to look for other hotel. But, she said she understands us yet she cannot accommodate us because of the money the hostel could possibly get from guests that would want to use the room. She even dared to say that “perhaps you could come back on Sunday”? when our scheduled flight to return home is on Sunday and that the voucher is only valid until 3 May 2019 and we don’t plan to return to their country anymore. That was really annoying, irritating, degrading and humiliating experience I ever had on my entire past travel experiences. That’s disgusting about HK Star hostel, manager and staff. That was indeed a horrible experience any guest could ever get from any hostel they could book.HK Star hostel is NOT deserving to be called HKStar because:1. the hostel does not have any reputation at all;2. staff are evil, rude, and always shouting;3. rooms are dirty, stinks and dreadful;4. hostel is a scam and the staff are thieves;5. we can’t actually rate them with “poor service” because they don’t have “service” at all. If it wasn’t because of the big amount of money they took from us, we would not let ourselves stay there last year AND WE WOULD NOT EVEN DARE TO RETURN TO HONG KONG BECAUSE OF THE VOUCHER AND THEIR PROMISE. Clearly, they’re just setting up stage and alibis to be freed from obligation to cater us because they really don't intend and want to return our money paid last year (28 April to 3 May 2018) in the first place. They should have told us straight that (i) you really don’t plan to accommodate us at the onset last year when Mr. Li gave us the voucher, and (ii) not made any promise to us so we: (i) won’t believe in him and the hostel’s consideration, and (ii) could have earlier killed the hope to trust and tried to spend our vacation again with them them despite of what we suffered last year.I can’t believe that there are people who could just easily exchange their values, integrity, dignity and reputation (if there is) for money and let money eat them. They don’t have any respect for their selves and no fear to God. I just hope one day they’ll change and truly repent to what they did wrong to others.

We stayed march 3 to 5 2019. Booking was done with booking.com. Price /photo is totally a scam.They will force you for an upgrade at the last minute making the price ridiculously expensive. They will give you a room that looks like a stock room; filthy, no window and no bath/toilet. In the end, you end up paying the extra since you have no choice.The reception also said that indians avail this place without any problems. We asked if where they do their personal nature calls, they said they do it elsewhere/ no public or common toilet to be expected.The place is dirty. You can smell the garbage in the walkway. The bed and pillow is old and filthy also. It has stains, mildew and odor. Luckily, we brought our own beddings (sheets and pillows) and slept on it. Just the sight of the filthy bed will make your screen itchy. The extra/upgrade fee is Hk$400 plus Hk$350. Your booking fee plus this additional fees can give you a better accomodation in standard hotel. Complete scam and i hope booking.com will remove them from their service.The location is also creepy. Place looks like place for drugs and pimps.Just stay out and have your place elsewhere.

This bad place does have any hospitality at all it's more of scamming and harassing its guests. Will force you to upgrade due to poor conditions but still be offered poor service. The person I encountered I the reception was rude, disrespectful and decietfull.

We celebrated our son's birthday in Hong Kong and we tagged along our grand kids in this trip. We booked ourselves for 2 days at a budget hotel, but upon arrival, we were so disappointed with the place and the price. Though the address (Chungking Mansions) sounded like it was a nice place, the men (of a different nationality) who literally blocked the entrance to the building gave us the creeps.Getting to the 3rd floor, we took a lift that was too small to accommodate our group of 4 adults and 2 kids and our baggage.I had the impression that the hotel was the entire bldg; but I was mistaken. There were several hotels located in the building. When the elevator doors opened, the entire area smelled as if rats lived in the ceiling. The worst part of our stay was that we paid more than what was advertised when we made our reservations. The reception clerk was opposite of being courteous and kind when I tried to insist that we booked at a lower rate than what she was charging me.We booked for 2 rooms but was surprised to learn the rooms were on separate floors. They offered a family room instead so we would all be together considering we were with kids aged 5 and 6.However when we got to the room,it was far from big or something that would mean family;the room was too small for family room standards. I observed that the beds were not cleanly made up; the sheets were not even ironed; the comforters seemed like they were not washed. There were no ready toiletries and towels; we had to get them at the reception. And the towels seemed they had seen better days; you would not use them because they looked like rags.The toilet was too small that you could not bend to scrub your toes. When you shower, water flowed out to the room. Hot shower was available only on schedule.We really were not happy with our stay at this hotel. Every time I passed by the reception, I would always hear other guests complaining and saying they were deceived. It seemed everyone I saw was not happy with their stay.I felt we were short changed with the accommodation, its amenities and service. What you see in the internet was not what you'd get when you check in.We transferred to another hotel and got a better deal at slightly the same cost. Our Hong Kong stay would have been more enjoyable if we had not checked in at this hotel.I should have checked the reviews first before booking at this hotel. It is a lesson learned.

The worst place I have ever been in my life. Besides very poor conditions there was something worst - totally no respect to the guests, and whats more terrible - to the women. We have stayed there for 9 nights and every day there was a fight between an old chineese guy from the reception and the hostel guests. Even police came because the reception guy wanted to hit a guest who after seeing his room wanted to leave the hostel. In the end The guest left without his money. Me and my friends booked a room there via Booking.com, we booked a room for 4 people. The room which we got was not like the one on the pictures showed on Booking.com. It was a room for 2 people not 4, extremly small, without window. In order to get a bigger room we had to pay an Extra money. However after few nights they told us that we need to change the room because they need to fix something cause the water is leaking - we didnt notice anything like that. They promised to give us the same room, but when we came in the evening they showed us a new room and it was again the room for 2 people. We had to fight with the reception man, he was screaming on us, he was very rude and without any respect. He was asking if we want to have a problems. I have never met so rude reception, even more - I have never met such a unrespectful human like this Man. Terrible. In the end he told us to stay in our old room. When we came to the room there was a guy who was already preparing the room for the another guests. They already sold our room to the another guest and wanted to cheat us and lied that they need to fix something in a room. Really the worst experience with a hostel ever in my life. I wish that somebody will close this place and nobody else will have to experience it.
