    Good hotel for budget traveller

    rating15 Jan 2023

I lived on the delightfully laid-back island of Cheung Chau for 15 years and when I come back for a visit, I always stay at the Warwick Hotel. Just a stone’s throw from the beach, the hotel offers clean, comfy accommodation and an attentive staff for the budget traveller. When I wanted a heater (I visited over the coolish New Year holidays), one was provided promptly. Extra peanut snacks? A bunch brought to my door with a smile. Could I have a bowl and a spoon so I can make my instant oatmeal every morning from the tea kettle in my room? Of course, no problem. They also go the extra mile to help in a crisis. When the local SIM card for my mobile phone stopped working, the hotel’s executive assistant manager (Hero Leung) gallantly gave me a SIM card from one of his own personal phones until I could get a replacement. When I needed to get a quick Covid test for my flight back to the US, he took the time to help me find a testing centre. That’s the kind of service that gets repeat business. On the slightly negative side, the furniture is a bit worn and it’s too bad only two English channels are offered on the hotel TV; Wi-Fi is limited to the lobby area. Although I can live with these limitations, I hope the hotel upgrades in the future. In general, I found the Warwick Hotel to be very good value for the money.

    Magnificent Views!

    rating13 Nov 2022

This hotel is a great place to stay or visit even it is a bit old already. The facilities are still functioning well. The views are so calming and relaxing. The distance from centre and the hotel is a bit long ,but it is very close to the beach.

Remember you pay for the view from the balcony!

    rating16 Mar 2022

A cosy hotel situated in Cheung Chau with stunning views of the beach below. Sitting out on that balcony listening to the waves lapping gently across the sand is so tranquil and worth the stay. The room was fine, it was bright and cosy. Appreciably, It had been recently painted. It was also clean and tidy (for the most part) but the bathroom was a bit dirty in concealed places (lots of dust behind the toilet bowl) and some mould in places, but not massively an issue as it was generally fine! The bed was very comfy too and spacious.Don't expect service or a resort-type place. There wasn't even a towel in my room! But just ask if they forget like they did me. The check-in was impractical. One woman manning the entire reception desk and phone, while the queue got bigger and bigger. Eventually, another member of staff came to help so it wasn't a big issue. Staff were generally fine, they weren't unfriendly or rude. I would certainly return for the view, the balcony and the tranquility of the present quiet life in Cheung Chau.

    Unclean and far too expensive.

    rating29 Jan 2022

We stayed here because it was seemingly the only place on Cheung Chau which could provide us with a cot for our baby, which they did but that became a moot point as she had to sleep in our bed due to the Arctic-like temperature. Even beyond that, our main problems were:* appallingly bad design - guests have to walk UP a very steep slope to get to the hotel entrance and then immediately carry their bags DOWN some stairs. What?* the dirt - the upkeep of this hotel was shockingly bad. Please see photos for reference but even these barely capture the scratches, mould, stains and dust everywhere in our room. This is on top the fact that some wooden door frames looked like they were rotting.* the price - I have stayed in worse hotels, in India, Thailand and Mexico for example, but they were 1/10th or 1/15th the price. Charging $1700, even right before Chinese New Year, for one night is just criminal.* other random stuff - dampness in the room, a shower that barely worked, plugs that didn’t charge…An awful place.
