    Room without real window

    rating26 Nov 2023

We had a room without windows, actually there was a window but it looked into the hall. The breakfast was greasy and full of oil. So in the morning through that window we’d feel the smell of oil and eggs instead of fresh air. Beds were good and staff polite. It wasn’t awful but I would’t come here again.

    Was robbed at this hotel

    rating26 Jun 2023

I was robbed at this hotel by the garbage man who was in my room on his own the day the money disappeared. The hotel management attempted to hush everything up, I insisted on calling the police. The garbage man came up with a story that I had forgotten to close the front door in the morning and a stranger must have walked in. Unfortunately, the police in Hungary are very slow. While I was waiting for the results of the investigation the hotel management kept discussing my case and taunting me behind my back (not everyone knew that I understood Hungarian). Shortly after the incident another robbery happened. I have a feeling that the managers have a clue who is to blame, that’s why they were trying so hard to cover it up. The sum of money stolen was big enough for this person to end up in prison.

Budapest but not at its best

    rating06 Dec 2022

Quite a disappointing beginning to our Budapest trip was arriving here. The hotel is in quite a run-down area where lots of drunk/homeless people gather day and night in the street. The hotel itself is massively in need of updating, it is run down and in and in a poor state of repair. Beds were comfortable and the rooms are very warm. We found the bathrooms very clean although drainage from the shower was an issue and also 'drain smell'. The bedrooms were sadly not as clean as the bathrooms, with dust on surfaces, dust clumps on the floor and dirty footprints. The furniture has seen better days as its stained and chipped the same can be said for the decor. The fridge was smelly and very old. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room consisted of 2 glasses, 2 cups, a kettle, 1 mint teabag and 1 lemon.Breakfast was awful with limited choices and is not served for the full stated time. A short walk from the hotel you can find a metro station which is the best way to get around Budapest. There are also tram stops outside the hotel but it's not too far to walk to the centre. Please be careful walking at night though. There are several supermarkets in the area, a covered market and a lovely bakery if you did want to explore this area. Budapest was great but we would not return to this hotel or area.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE: STAY AWAY FROM ATLANTIC HOTEL BUDAPEST!

    rating07 Jan 2020

Even if I reserved and paid in advance via Agoda for a double room, I have got a twin room from the Atlantic Hotel. The receptionist, a very impolite and sarcastic woman, said that “this is what she sees in the system, that nothing can be done, since it is week-end (it was on Saturday, 21.12.2019) and the responsible sales teams can only check on Monday, when they begins their standard/ regular shift”. I showed her the original reservation both via email and original - printed on the paper and she said that “original is what she has in her system”. She also said, that: “no other double room is available in the hotel, but if we (me and my husband) come back later in the evening, after 11 p.m. (we arrived there at 16.00 p.m.), maybe someone cancels or simply does not show up. I asked her how many guests are expected by the hotel in that day and then she said that: “no one, that they are fully booked.” She simply mentioned something, made somehow a promise, that, suddenly, after a couple of minutes was no valid any longer! She added then that she meant another room, where the beds can be moved together. But this could have been done in the same twin-room we had received, I said. I told her that I am pregnant and I would really like to enjoy my holiday and not to spend my time in the reception desk, arguing for my rights, after travelling more that 10 hours – I have to mention that we stayed there more than one hour and a half! I asked her to address the issue immediately, to call a superior, her manager, somebody that could take a decision and support further. She simply denied, saying that her manager is in vacation. I told her that I am also in vacation and I will not move from there, until I see that she is at least trying to help on that matter. She said again that only starting Monday her colleagues from sales teams can check what happened. I said again that we were there just for 2 nights, so, on Monday morning, we were supposed to check-out, not to start investigating what went wrong retroactively! She insisted that the only solution is to get what she offers me: the twin-room. I said that I do not want to move beds and she was impolite and sarcastic and said that “my husband can move them for me” – insinuating that I am pregnant and I am not able to. Very, very rude! I told her again that such sarcastic and inflexible behavior I do not tolerate, my patience was really over and I insisted her calling her boss. She said that “she will try to”. During this time, she made something there, sitting on her chair, me and my husband simply waited for about 10 minutes, allowing her time to do what she said that she will do, but, we had then a big surprise: When I asked her if she called him, because I did not hear any phone call conversation at all, she said: “NO, I WILL NOT CALL MY MANAGER, HE IS IN VACATION”. I could not believe that she was mocking us! She said something, she changed her minds after that, she simply ignored us and behave like an uneducated and unprofessional person! I asked her when her shift is over, she said that at 19.00 p.m. Then I assumed that she tried not to do anything and to get rid of us – at least for the moment. I asked her to give me her name, to write it down on a note. She simply denied! I decided with my husband to go for a walk, without even saying her a word and leaving the reception desk. We came back at 10 p.m. Her colleague, a man, this time – but with the same impolite attitude, as if in this hotel each and every one attended the same school for impolite persons -, gave us the key for the twin room. I said to him that this is not acceptable, that I gave her colleague time to do something during our absence and we were confronting with the same situation again and again. I asked him the same thing: to give me his name and his colleague’s name. He refused to do so. He said that if I do not want to stay in the room they offer to me, I am free to go, to leave their hotel. What an incredible “welcome” for a tourist, right?! I said that at that late hour, in vacation, being pregnant, the only solution left for me, even if I did not agree with their conditions/ offering was to stay there, but, if they do not do anything until Monday, as her colleague promised me before, things will not remain as they are! I said to him to consider this situation as a reclamation/ escalation and that I expect for a resolution/ feedback on Monday morning. On Monday morning, we found another guy in the reception, he was not aware of anything, no case was submitted internally by any of his colleagues during the whole week-end/ during our stay, in order for the sales teams to check what went wrong with the reservation. He was totally surprised when I summarized him the whole issue. So, we checked-out. No one called me, no one informed me via email about anything. I only have a phone number from the internet, where no one answers and a generic email address, where I will address my reclamation – let’s see if someone reacts! I also want to add that the room was not clean, very old, the heat was not working at all, it was cold in the room during night, a dirty smell all over the place: in the room, on corridors, in the lobby; the breakfast was very, very poor: just salami, cheese, a few and dried tomatoes, jam, butter, tea, milk, bread... So, to conclude, this was the most horrible stay and the most awful experience I have ever lived as a tourist, after visiting more than 35 countries up till now. This is definitely not a 3 starts hotel, the personal/ staff was the most impolite and inflexible I have ever met. I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND, STAY AWAY FROM ATLANTIC HOTEL BUDAPEST! And I guess that the attached pictures also speak by themselves!
