Staff was great, very responsive to our requests. The room was very nice and spacious. Love the fact that they call you for the aurora- which was amazing. The day we arrived was a big snow storm (early April) so the view was great, but we didn't get to enjoy the grounds. Good location near Borgarnes, but not right in the town.Coincidentally- outside our room was a big meeting spot for watching the Aurora so it was a little noisy for a little while. I think if there hadn't been so much snow that day people would have spread out and it wouldn't have been a problem. thankfully the aurora was earlyish in the evening- and it only lasts for about 45 min.

Amazing resort with fantastic views

Had to book the hotel last minute due to a snow storm and road closures (orange level storm!) and we were so pleasantly surprised and happy with it! We wished we could stay longer and hope to one day come back. The bungalow was great and we highly recommend getting one.

Great Stay, Outstanding Service, and Northern Lights from the Parking Lot

We had a fantastic stay at Hotel Hamar. The customer service was exceptional — especially from Tyna at reception. She was incredibly helpful both before our stay (assisting us in selecting the best room options) and again at check-in, where she went out of her way to ensure our family had the best possible room setup for our group. As a bonus, we were even able to see the Northern Lights right from the hotel parking lot — an unforgettable experience.Highly recommend this hotel for both the service and overall experience.

Quite, comfortable, clean and friendly. Very eco-friendly. Excellent food service for both dinner and breakfast. Reliable wake-up service for the Northern Lights. This was my favorite hotel of all those we stayed at on our tour.

Disappointing Service
21 Feb 2026
The hotel was on a golf course during winter season so I didn’t expect a lot going on. When we checked in, the hotel asked us about breakfast and encouraged us to register now. We declined but they said we could change our mind in the morning. They then asked if we wanted a “wake-up” call if northern lights came out. We said yes! They also said hot tub and sauna close at 11pm. We decided to hit the hot tub and sauna at 7pm. The hot tubs didn’t work (one was empty and the other one was practically frozen) and the sauna was lacking both heat and steam. We decided to give up after 30 mins in the sauna. At 9:30pm, we had the curtains pulled and saw the northern lights. We thought the front desk would call, nope. We even heard people outside taking photos. Never once did we get a call. I went down to the lobby to ask the staff if they could lower the lights or them off in the dining area because they were so bright and the person said, “no, I’m cleaning. Go the other side of the building and take photos away from the building”. In the morning, we told the front desk about the lack of phone call and the sort of shrugged their shoulders and said that 15+ people were on the list and didn’t get a phone call. We also informed them of the sauna and got tub situation. No apology. The room was clean, decent, but nothing special for other amenities. When we were there only about 15 cars were there at night, so it was pretty empty. This place could be better (service and accommodations) in the summer.
