    Ala's Green Lagoon ticks all the boxes.It is located in central Ubud within easy walking distance to restaurants, markets, and the cultural and social activities Ubud has to offer. Yet, it is quiet and secluded tucked behind rice fields.It is an older establishment sumptuously appointed with deep marble baths and big comfortable beds. The rooms are large with a big separate bathroom. The place is very clean. Breakfast is tasty and substantial. I recommend the omelette. The price is affordable, making it remarkable value for money.Add to all that the exceptional hospitality displayed by the owner Nyoman, his family and staff, which makes me return to Ala's Green Lagoon every time I go to Ubud.

    Cheap and cheerful in a great location

    An excellent experience considering the price we paid! Hosts and local were extremely friendly and helpful (best hosts we have ever had - no ask is too much)Beer and water on site and cheap, laundry service was completed within hours and packaged nicelyRoom spacious and cleaned daily - although it would have been nice to have clean towels daily. The air con worked amazing, we’d wake up shivering which is great after a day exploring. Had our own balcony with 2 chairs, a table and a lovely sofa!Breakfast was good and they catered for my peanut allergy well! Had a lovely area next to the pool for eating and drinking.Location is close to the Main Street, however quiet which was perfect! It is down one or two alleys but never did I feel unsafe. Great food options nearbyOnly critique which isn’t really a critique is not changing towels daily - however I’m sure if we asked they would have!

    Great Breakfast, But Serious Cleanliness Issues

    The breakfast was excellent, especially the Balinese pancakes – definitely a highlight of our stay.However, upon arrival we immediately noticed a musty, moldy smell in the room. We asked for a different room and were only offered a “better” one for an additional fee. We agreed, and the smell was less noticeable there, but the room itself was still not clean or well-maintained.The bed sheets had stains, and the mosquito net over the bed was also stained, with a few spiders hanging out in the corners. Under the bed there were decorative stones, which looked quite nice in theory, but they were completely covered in dust – understandably difficult to clean, but still unpleasant.The bathroom was very worn down, although it seemed to have been cleaned. The balcony railing was covered in bird droppings, which weren’t cleaned during our entire stay, and the tablecloth on the balcony table was dirty as well.Even at breakfast, the tablecloths, cups, and glasses weren’t properly clean. The pool looked more green than inviting – definitely not a place we felt like swimming.All in all, the place has potential, but cleanliness and maintenance need serious improvement.

    Ala’s Green is one of many guest houses and Homestay a clustered in rice paddies just behind Jl Bisma. I stayed because I needed short notice accommodation due to changing travel plans, and few options in high season. The term ‘Ala’s Green’ described the pool, which was best avoided. Rooms are clean spacious but basic, and with very tired bathrooms. It’s a peaceful area, and a great location, but there are other options nearby that offer better value. However breakfast was very good, and staff welcoming and helpful. But I would choose somewhere else next time.Wi-Fi terrible, no kettle / tea / coffee in room and no safe.

    Simply the Best

    Just a five minute walk from the madness of central Ubud, you enter a serene world of nature with a gorgeous view, birds, frogs, cicadas and geckos providing the sound track. City noise is forgotten. This refuge is just a stone’s throw from all the amenities, good food, music, bars and massage but feels like you are way out in the country. The rooms are lovely and artistically appointed with rock garden bathroom, terraces, 24 hour coffee and tea, a small swimming pool. Big choice of filling breakfast is included in the room cost and they are all delightful. Nyoman, Wayan and Made are like family, at least in this place my home away from home. Top recommendations.
