    Nice enough

    rating23 Oct 2019

We booked Fat Yogis as it is in the Kuta area where we like to stay.I booked through expedia and the photos are definitely out of date. One of the amenities was supposed to be a swim up bar but like some of the hotels in Kuta it had been covered over. The hotel is located right next to the access road to Poppies 2, next to the Victory so depending on your location app, it'll show the wrong address.Close to Kuta beach, probably a 500m walk and close to all the little market stalls. Although each trip sees more of them closed. The hotel is in the traditional style with really nice garden spaces. The rooms are comfortable with a large bathroom, good size balcony and despite the proximity to Poppies 1 very quiet. Currently the hotel is in the process of revamping 1 room at a time. Due to knowing this, I didn't worry so much about the slow drainage of the shower and hand basin. The staff are all very friendly and helpful as you find wherever you go in Bali. Breakfast was included, but limited in choice. You could get eggs or bacon but not both. The outdoor eating area is very nice in the morning. The pool is fairly large with a seperate shallow area for kids, ample sun beds for those who like to laze around with a good book. FYI there are plenty of magazines and novels available from the book stand in the dining area. For those like me who hire a scooter, there's plenty of under cover parking in front of the hotel. There's also a rear access into the Havana restaurant next door.Overall a nice place, just a couple of little things.

    Funny name, great hotel

    rating06 May 2019

Initially staying for 2 nights but stayed for 10. Low cost hotel in a great location - Poppies Lane. The breakfast could be improved consisting of mainly jaffles but it is included so why worry. The coffee is good. There are so many warungs to eat at just outside the door. Plenty of bars and shopping for tourist junk. Nice swimming pool and relaxed , helpful staff. Simple , clean rooms.

Our room was problematic on arrival

    rating03 Dec 2018

We were dissatisfied with our prebooked arrival hotel in Kuta and spotted Fat Yoga Cottages across from our dinner venue (Victory Restaurant). The reviews seemed OK and the photos nice, so we booked it for our return to Kuta for our final three days of dining and shopping; before returning home after sightseeing East Bali. There are no Cottages. The garden and pool are quite nice and there is an attached "Cuban" restaurant. We were put in the dormatory-style three story building, containing at least 24-rooms, which seemed empty. Our room was problematic (see Day 1 Arrival below). I wondered whether all these rooms were to be problematic or were we being punished for using booking.com?The Good:- good water pressure & hot water- a/c effective & quiet- security safe works- fridge works- ceiling fan works- all lights work- breakfast was light but fresh, with a pot of coffee / tea and quick delivery- pool area and garden were niceThe Bad:- see Day 1 details below- dodgy WiFi, often slow or not working- bedside lamp shades need replacement- terrace was dusty / dirty- bathroom windows were dirty / won't fully close- additional bar soap not provided by housekeeping- odd breakfast routine where one writes the order down at reception then sits under the gazebo- the entrance route to the room was cluttered with junkThe Ugly:- spotting dead cockroachs under the vanity and in hallway on our first morning and again in the hallway on our third morning- the general (minor) disrepair in this (and I suspect all) dormitory-wing room(s)- visit soon... with this hotel's management style, you won't want to visit at all by this time next yearThe Tip:Don't book a cheap 3-star hotel room through booking.com: because you will likely get the worst available room!Day 1 On Arrival... Room 214, on 27 Nov 2018Front desk agreed to address our room complaints "tomorrow", since their "workers" had gone home already...1. TV colour goes wonky after just a few minutes of running2. entrance door handle came apart3. coffee pot & two cups provided, but no spoonsAdditional complaints, with no satisfaction offered...- no coffee / tea condiments- no safe drinking water- no drinking glasses- in room telephone not working (PABX problem)Requested room change...- shown room 216- TV reception was very bad, not an improvement- bathroom was dirty with black material fallen from ceiling fan- I refused that move, nothing else was offered-- end --

Great place to stay on budget

    rating16 Oct 2017

I stayed in this hotel with my boyfriend on our first visit to Bali - based on recommendations by friends. The small resort is located in a great place in Kuta, walking distance from other restaurants, bars and beach. We were able to book on the night we arrived even though it was early morning!😊 great pool area and aircon in the two rooms we stayed in.

    Amazing value resort

    rating31 Aug 2017

My wife and I, along with our middle daughter Angela and four of our friends, stayed at Fat Yogi Cottages for two weeks, finishing up just a week ago.Two members of our party had stayed there before, on two or more occasions and recommended the place to us. We are so glad they did. They had warned us of the 'quirkiness' of the place, including the rooms, the staff and particularly the 'breakfasts'! As is usual practice in hotels and resorts, if you want breakfast in your room, you need to complete a Breakfast Order the night before but with Fat Yogi, this is not for room service!! This is to arrange to have your breakfast brought on a tray to the Breakfast Room/Deck, the next morning! The Breakfast Menu is most confusing (they really should redo the breakfast order sheet) and you have very little idea what you are going to end up with. You might try to order what you thought would be fried eggs and bacon with tea/coffee, toast and fruit but what you got could be totally different at boiled eggs and three small slices of bacon and toast. You might order eggs bacon and sausage etc., what you get might be 1 sausage on a plate and 5 rounds of toast!! We had said in advance that if we were not happy with the breakfasts, we could always go up the street and buy a full American breakfast for $4 or $5 so no drama. As it happens, we ate breakfast at Fat Yogi every day and did not go 'up the street' at all. We supplemented our breakfasts with Vegemite and fresh tomatoes etc., and it was always a lovely surprise to see what was on our trays. The staff at Fat Yogi Cottages are lovely and they go out of their way to be helpful. The occasional small tip and can of Bintang worked wonders and keeps the supply of towels, toilet rolls and other necessities coming. The rooms are in the process of being 'done up'. The difference between the ones done and the ones due to be done, is enormous! I would suggest, when booking, you ask for a room that has recently been done up. For instance, the rooms we were in, 105, 106, 107 and 108, were vastly different. The 'done up' ones of those, as at the present, are the one we stayed in number 108 and 106. The ones not done yet are 105 and 107. You really wouldn't want to stay in the 'not done up' rooms when for $2 per night more per couple, you could have a perfectly acceptable hotel room for $38 per room, including breakfast. Yes, that's right, $38 per night for two people, including breakfast (whatever you finish up getting) and $36 per room for the not 'done up' rooms. The pool is quite large, has a 'swim up' bar with stools in it and is rather nice and well maintained.Needless to say, we are now making plans to go back to Fat Yogi Cottages next year and will do so again on a regular basis. We are now 'friends' on Facebook with the lady who runs the reception etc and will deal direct with her for bookings and all associated matters.Give it a go, there are heaps of regular guests who stay there, year after year and we will be part of that group now.
