Cool place. Wifi was choppy during the evening.

    rating29 Sept 2018

Great place to stay. Everything is available. Washing machine, big kitchen with all equipments. There is no space to eat by the kitchen other than 4 stools by the cooking area. If you want to sit down properly you have to take your food to the TOP floor. The oven is a one of those table TOP small ones. Do not carry loads of clothes as they have everything you need to wash and dry them. Toiletries other than a soap bar were not available (which is a great plus to me as I always carry mine). I was in room 1 on the ground floor, it’s a bit dark and very close to the common area so if you are a Super light sleeper I would recommend making a note about being as far as possible from common areas. Pool area is nice. If you are into sunbathing you can do that by the pool around lunch time (this is when the sun hits the pool area) or if you want to do it any other time you have to go to the TOP floor where a sun deck is available. Plenty of working space (outdoor with fans), a beutiful area for yoga. Amazing restaurant in the very near vicinity. You can rent a scooter directly from the reception. Wifi is not great though. The staff is really great there!

    It’s complicated

    rating07 Aug 2018

The position in Penestanan behind Alchemy is great and actually quiet but somehow the whole building is not very ‘Ubudish’ but probably more suitable for a city like Singapore. What worked for meWas the really nice bed and linenModern, simplistic layout of roomThe cupboard spaceThe lightingThe shared kitchen, I thought was lovely!!!The positionBeing quietThe wifiThe shared washing machine and dryerWhat did not work for meWas the close outside walls which made the room darkMusty smell!!!Shower where floor never dried upNo desk in roomThe shared workspace on roof without airconThe neglected loungeThe abandoned bar and yoga spaceThe pool even it was large, but no sunThe cleaning of room only once a weekSo would I stay there again? No, I don’t think so

Not what you'd expect when WSJ, Economist and others talk about it

    rating31 May 2018

Reading about Roam in the 1843 Magazine got me thinking about going to Bali. Planned a month's stay but ended up checking out of the place in a week. The rooms were small and the view from the balcony was pathetic, no wifi in the room, wifi in 'co-working' area very patchy- so I bought a local sim with international dialling pack, kitchen too small for 20 rooms to share, pool small and made smaller by the strange 1 foot deep section created for kids (who'll stay here with kids?), the events area taken over by Alchemy every evening, projector not functioning, work area gets very hot in the afternoonThe people I met were very good and that's the only reason I can give it one starChecked into another property for the remainder of the stay- 10 times the quality at a fourth of the price.

Stumbled across Roam and loved it

    rating04 Oct 2017

If you are travelling and want to meet others, do social things and also work if you want to (assuming you are a digital type) this is the place to stay. We loved it, met great people, stayed in a fantastic place with superb facilities and staff. Would highly recommend.

ROAM is definitely what you make it

    rating01 Sept 2017

Here's the deal with the co-working, co-living concept. If you show up, don't speak to anyone, and treat any ROAM like a normal hotel, you'll have a pretty mediocre time. To get the most out of ROAM you need to be somewhat disciplined, make the effort to do focused work, make the effort to meet people, make the effort to organise events. The social aspect------------------------I made some good friends at ROAM, we hung out, did activities together it pretty much matched my social expectations. To get the most out of ROAM I feel you need at least two weeks, better a month.Mini communities get formed and then dissolve as people come and go. What really helps this process are the people who have been there a while (multiple months) and the community managers (really just Fenny). They provide an anchor and help kick start things as new people come in. What hinders the process are people who just want a hotel, and only come for a few days. There are community events like dinners and movie nights, but they're not a substitute for organising things yourself. There's plenty of places to hang out around ROAM. The bar area and the kitchen collect the most people. There's also Lou the community dog. Lou is awesome. She's the best community dog in the same way Fenny is the best community manager. The work aspect----------------------The Internet is pretty good. Kinda variable, probably about 30mbit down 15mbit up on a good day. You can get work done, and you can make VoIP calls of mostly ok quality. I think Hubud's internet is better... But Hubud is just weird, I went there once... never again. Stupid policies about how many devices you can connect to the network (one laptop, one iPad, one phone), and relatively expensive 20 USD for a day pass given what they offer. You can get work done at ROAM, you can, definitely. It's easier once it gets cooler during the evening (working area is outdoors). It is... pretty bare bones though. One of the biggest positives is the easy availability of cheap, delicious food and coffee, which you order from the bar, and magically appears at your working area 20 minutes later. Helps minimise disruptions due to hunger and lack of caffeine. The staff------------I think the staff really make ROAM. They're always happy, friendly and occasionally hilarious. A little effort to talk to them and treat them like people goes a really really long way.Why only four stars and not five?--------------------------------------------Because I came to ROAM to get solid work done and found it difficult. They need wired network drops, comfier chairs, and an AC'd conference room to take VoIP calls (which they have, it's just not in use).I feel ROAM Ubud "plays" at co-working. They could easily fix the oustanding issues and do it properly, but I have no idea whether they will or not.
