    Staff will steal from you

Well, the fact that my i-phone and charger was taken by staff left me with a bad experience. Also being harassed by ladyboys all night did not help the situation. one point, a naked lady boy, just came into our room asking us random questions. When I asked staff for my i-phone and charger, they just smiled and said, sorry, we did not find.

    Katut is a Legend

Stayed here for a few nights. We originally booked the budget room on trivago, the room was fine for a couple nights and had toilet, shower and a fan. After speaking to Katut at reception we moved into a larger deluxe room with a tv and roofless stonefloor shower. The beds are comfortable, the breakfast is yummy. We hired a scoopy from Katut and have had been very well looked after. We stayed a few extra nights here than we originally intended because of the friendly and safe atmosphere. Its very close to poppies 1 and 2 and kuta beach. I will definately be coming back here.Thank you guys for an amazing stay!!

    Horrific night

    rating14 Aug 2017

We travelled Bali on a budget and had decent hotel rooms overall. This one was not. First of all, the toilet didn't flush and they refuse to let us change room (when a few were available). They told us it was supposed to work but it never did. At 11pm, construction started next to our room. It was very loud and impossible to sleep. When I went to the reception to complained, they told us they knew about it and that it would continue all night long. After a while, they accepted that we switch room in the middle of the night. The other room was nasty. Stains on the bed sheets (that they refused to change), the bathroom sink was leaking and the smell of it was aweful. The toilet of the second room didn't flush as well. They did not give toilet paper and refuse to gave some. The two rooms didn't had a trash. I would not recommend this place at all, even for backpackers and persons on a budget. We had more decent and confortable places in the same area in kuta for less money.

    Home away from home

We love mahendra, we use it as a base when travelling in Bali, and will frequently spend nights there in between our booked accommodation. The staff are excellent and our kids love to play in the courtyard, very cheap, central and welcoming. Good wifi, beers and water available to purchase, good local advise from the staff.

Budget option in the center of Kuta

    rating17 Jun 2016

We got the double room with A/C and its just fine. I wouldn't go here if you expect something fancy, but all in all it's great if you've been backpacking for a while (like us) and just want a private room with good working A/C and a nice cold shower after a hot day. The water pressure of the shower is a bit off, but eh, we were already pleased with the fact that it's a nice (private) outdoor-ish bathroom. Only thing that I would recommend is to ask for a room a bit more in the back. We stayed right next to the reception and it could get a bit noisy in the morning (and we really wanted to sleep in during those days haha!).Last thing: we read some reviews here that said it's an "unsafe" area. We didn't experience it like that at all. There are some dark patches along the road during the night but in our opinion nothing scary. We did not, however, travel solo so that might be a different experience. It's a really central area and you'll be at the beach/in the Main Street within no time.
