You and your money deserve better

Punchline: Go to Swan Inn (50 meters away) Some key words to describe Pering Bungalow Ubud: Dilapidated, musty, moist, filthy, old, forgotten, soiled, dark, dingy, fetid, unsanitary, etc. And a shame because the property has potentialI intended to keep this private as I do not enjoy publicly saying what I am about to say. If you are like me, one of the most beautiful things about staying in Bali is interacting with beautiful, kind, open, local people and families at the accommodations.Modern, classy, hi-tech, western-like stays are fine, but sometimes it is also nice to dive deep into a modest, rustic, authentically Balinese property. My (non) stay was scheduled for Feb11-13... I saw the reviews, but I also give the benefit of the doubt and keep very modest expectations as a seasoned traveler. The risk to reward I can nearly always tolerate. After arriving, I looked around for about 5 minutes and decided no way am I about to stay here. I would not send anyone I cared about here. It is one, maybe two, steps up from a night on the streets. More so, the front desk area, upon looking behind the counter demonstrates the absolute careless, hoarder-like tendencies of the (non)caretakers. There truly is an intense degree of neglect to the facilities in regards to cleanliness, organization, and aesthetic appeal. To me, this indicates some serious character flaws and limitations in the owner's ability to assess needs of staff and, ultimately, guests. With that said, I had been in contact with the owner directly on What's App for the past couple of days, as I intended to keep this negativity private. I spoke politely, RECOGNIZED THE CANCELLATION POLICY is not in my favor, but the circumstances warranted a reconsideration as the place is truly worse than advertised. The conversations started positive, but she, Dewi, has since neglected to return my messages, so I will just conclude my relationship with Pering Bungalow Ubud with my honest review. Money comes and goes... not a big deal. But this review is to suggest that, if you chose to stay here and will take a chance on the property/facilities, you will also be, as I see it, giving money to a property that practices poor business etiquette and has seemingly weak morals. The solution to my problem, and a better alternative for anyone reading this is a place 50 meters away called Swan Inn. The family and staff are the kind of people you want to meet. You know the type :) And as an extension of who they are as individuals, the property reflects their values.

    Really good for the price

    rating02 Jan 2020

I booked through Last Minute and was then a bit worried about my choice BUT was really pleased with it. I had a room, not a dorm bed, small but yummy breakfast included. Staff were lovely and the small grounds and pool peaceful. Location is also great, very central. I got there really late so couldn't check in but was then told that the owner sleeps in the room behind the desk and I could have woken him. I have probably stayed in many hotels claiming a higher star rating that were not much better. Would recommend.

    Wonderful Stay

    rating10 Sept 2019

I spent 3 nights at Pering Bungalow. It was wonderful and comfortable. At night, I can hear live music playing at nearby café. The breakfast was nice. The location is in the center of Ubud. The staff are kind.

Quiet in the middle of the city

    rating10 Feb 2019

Little hotel near everything. Very quiet. Staff was super helpful and even though the breakfast is small, it is free and nutritious. Got coffee and tea every morning and afternoon. Pool is small but clean and very refreshing. We stayed 4 nights and would not have mind to stay longer if we did not already have plans. Would totally recommend for couple or a couple friends travelling together.

    Best hostel in Ubud

    rating27 Dec 2018

Wonderful pool, big clean beds, has breakfast service, great location to all of Ubud amenities, I highly recommend and will be my place of choice for any return journeys to Ubud. Has a real Balinese feel, I always like to stay in hotels that have the vibe of the country, just loved it here, could have stayed much longer.
