  A very pleasant surprise

  After thinking that I'd booked us in at the Puri Bagus Candidasa, I was somewhat concerned when we headed away from the coast and into the hills 6km away. Especially after pulling up outside what looked like just a well-kept house in the village. We'd arrived at the Puri Bagus Manggis!But it was a blessing in disguise! We were the only westerners in the village and after being greeted by the very happy and hospitable Manager, we settled into our gorgeous rooms and started to explore the main street. Everyone was going about their normal daily routines and were very friendly. It was only a short drive down to the beach for the afternoon, then back to our 'private' pool overlooking the rice fields and the back gardens of the locals. We were invited into the home of Ibu Dede who gave us coffee and snacks and told us about her life and her plans for her house. We felt truly blessed that this lovely lady shared her afternoon with us.The rooms were very comfortable (a good nights sleep as well) and it was wonderful to enjoy a morning coffee overlooking the rice fields and hearing the locals do what they do every morning.We didn't eat at the hotel, because we were off early to explore the surrounding attractions and sights. DEFINITELY recommend this hotel to anyone - especially if you want to get away from the 'resort' style places which are everywhere.   Fabulous stay

  A traditional Balinese house surrounded by rise fields in a traditional little village is what you get here. It is incredibly serene and the locals extremely kind and genuine. We had a rather pleasant stay here and our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. The pool has a beautiful scenic view of tropical plants and the rise fields. Rooms comfortable, breakfast awsome and staff always assisting.

  We stayed here for two nights, right after we arrived to Bali, so it was exactly what we needed. Calm and beautiful place with great service and delicious food. And also the swimming pool, is near the rice fields, so you can enjoy the beautiful view and feel the true Bali nature.

  Very nice, but not what we booked

  This is a lovely secluded little place, aspects of which were delightful - staff very friendly and attentive, comfortable bed, nice room, friendly cat on the verandah, scenery and surrounds very quaint and true Bali village style. If this was what we had planned for, it would have been perfect, but we booked with our agent to stay in Puri Bagus Candi Dasa and ended up not being booked there, but in Mangiss. By the time we arrived in Mangiss late afternoon after travelling since the early hours of the morning, we were disappointed with the mixup and switched to the sister hotel in Candidasa the next day, of course needing to pay extra. This did put a dampener on the beginning of our holiday, but we enjoyed the opportunity to see a different style in Mangiss, just not for us for more than one night. Would be perfect for a retreat holiday if one needed/wanted a more secluded setting.

  More than we could have dreamed...

  My now-husband and I celebrated our honeymoon at Puri Bagus Manggis and, all I can say is that it was even better than we could have dreamed! I could go on and on about what an exceptional place Puri Bagus Manggis is, but I will attempt to sum up the key points: First, Puri Bagus Manggis is private. This might not be a winning point for everyone, but for a couple on their honeymoon and for many others who truly want to enjoy some R&R, we could not have been more pleased. There are only seven villas and you frequently feel that you somehow managed to rent your own personal property in the rice fields of Bali. Which brings me to my second point, the scenery. I have been lucky to have done a fair amount of travel in my life and I will be the first to say that the ocean is one of my favorite places – however, I have found the ocean in the Caribbean to look similar to the ocean in S. America to look similar… you get my point. In my humble opinion, what is so unique about Bali is the rice paddies – so why not stay on a property nestled in the heart of a lush green rice field? And, if you do find the ocean calling your name, there is a free shuttle that will take you to the sister hotel, Puri Bagus Candidasa, which is located directly on the ocean with all the amenities your heart could desire. You truly get the best of both worlds. My third and final point is about the service – in general we found Bali to have an impressive culture of service and Puri Bagus Manggis was no exception. From our delicious breakfast waiting for us every morning on the veranda, to our host arranging car service to all the amazing cultural attractions Bali offers, to special touches like fresh beach towels and flowers on your bed, nothing is overlooked. We are so grateful to the staff at Puri Bagus for providing us such an unforgettable honeymoon – it is my sincere hope that this review will allow other tourists enjoy all that Puri Bagus Manggis has to offer.
