    One for history lovers.

We weren’t sure what to expect. The hotel is alongside a fairly busy road and close to suburban housing so I was apprehensive. As soon as we turned into the drive though, we were blown away. This hotel really does have history seeping out of it. The rooms were refitted over the past 2 or 3 years and the 18th Century reception rooms are stunning. In a 3 night stay I never got bored of looking at them. The guest rooms are comfortable, though they are built within the confines of a listed building which can make them quirky. Some of the staff are ‘quirky’ too. They were all so kind, friendly and keen to help. A small team couldn’t do enough to help. The food was good. The breakfasts very good. We did find the stairs to the first floor a bit onerous… two flights! The staff wouldn’t let us carry our bags up or down though. In all, this was a really lovely visit, enhanced by the fact that we had booked at the time of the battle of Culloden 280th anniversary. A real experience to remember and a most unique hotel that I’d certainly recommend.

    So glad we came here

    rating26 Apr 2026

I really don't where to begin. We stayed at Culloden House Hotel for the last two nights of our week in Scotland and we could not be happier that we chose to do so. The location is maybe 10 minutes east of Inverness, and the grounds even in early March were gorgeous. We were greeted at the door by Kyle who brought us to check-in, made sure my wife had a glass of champagne, and then proceeded to haul, nearly by himself, our bags up the flights of stairs. After we had a brief exchange in Irish, to which I say Ta bron orm, Kyle. Taim ag foghlaim. And he checked our room for ghosts. Just in case. The hotel itself has the air of antiquity but with enough tasteful upgrades to ensure that the atmosphere is maintained. We wanted for nothing. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bath / shower was nearly a presentation in itself and our room looked out over the back pastures, complete with "Hielan Coos." They are just as friendly as they look. We ate two breakfasts and dinner at the hotel and were very impressed. Great menu with veg options and wine selection you'd expect from an establishment like this one. The dining room is adjacent to a brunch / sitting room and for Outlander and Bridgerton fans, you will feel as though you walked on set. Or through a portal. Being early March the walled garden was only beginning to wake up, so I took a leisurely stroll with my favorite pipe while feeling all the world like JRR Tolkien. Magical. The hotel itself is amazing but what it made it so great was the staff. I have a hard time with any level of luxury. True blue collar. But Kyle and George made their profession, and their care for us, look effortless. From directions, whiskey recommendations, calling a taxi, to witty banter, they nailed it. I feel terrible about not getting the names of the wait staff for our dinner but it was a gentleman in his 40s and a young lady. Both are to be commended. I can't forget Fiona who we only met on check-out but she was just as pleasant as everyone we met. Culloden House has a unique magnetism and if we have the chance, we will be back. Highly recommended.

How often do you get to stay in a gorgeous historical manor house?!

    rating24 Apr 2026

When you drive up to the house, it’s like going back in time - the house is gorgeous. My wife and I recently stayed at the Culloden House and couldn’t be happier with our choice of accommodations to explore Inverness and the Culloden battlefield. Sure some of the upper rooms are a bit tricky to get up to, but the staff is fully accommodative and we never had to touch our luggage to and from our room. All the rooms are newly refurbished and our room was especially comfortable and gorgeous. We looked out to the front lawn and were able to open up the windows and take in the fresh country air. With over 200 scotch whiskeys, the bar area is fun to find out what tastes might really appeal to you. Breakfast and dinner were amazing and teatime would be fun, so make sure to make a reservation. Definitely take time to explore the walled garden as it was one of the nicest my wife and I have seen. On a sidenote, if you’re planning on using this to explore the Isle of Skye it’s a long drive. Add about 1/3 to all the MapQuest drive estimates if you’re new to driving on the left side of the road and also lots of single track roads will add time to the Isle of Skye, especially. We did it and made for a long day. Really wanted to thank the entire staff of the Culloden House for making our stay so very magical. I couldn’t recommend their lovely House more.

From start to finish, our experience at Culloden was exemplary. The hotel itself is homely and welcoming with plenty of comfortable spaces to sit, chat, read or drink. This is a hotel that offers good food, high quality accommodation and top notch service in a beautiful setting. We were in Room 12 (a suite), it has a prime location at the front of the house and overlooks the extensive lawns grounds. It is spacious (actually it is huge!) and has a comfortable bed and seating areas. There are all the amenities expected of a luxury hotel: hairdryer, iron, water, biscuits, coffee maker and tea-making facilities. The house is situated in extensive grounds which I imagine are beautiful at any time of the year. It is easily accessible and we were able to use it as a base for sightseeing in and around Inverness. Food was of an excellent standard; every meal we had was tasty, well presented and served in a professional manner. It is the latter which sets Culloden House apart from some other hotels. Its service levels are consistently high and staff are customer-focused. Nothing is too much trouble. We had a whisky tasting session which was an informative and entertaining experience, well worth the amount it cost. It is without hesitation that I recommend the hotel if you are in this area of Scotland.
