    Best Hostel in Ireland

    rating30 Mar 2026

Super professional, clean, breakfast and snacks provided, best hostel for digital nomads, not the cheapest but check with the front desk for weekly or monthly rates, if available, great proximity to town and transport be sure to book ahead

Hostel? Yes. But, don't judge the book by its cover (i.e. category of lodging)

I've rated the Kinlay Hostel excellent. It's not a high-end luxury hotel sort of excellent, but it is definitely excellent for what it is. Kinlay Hostel is a hostel, but more than any hostel I've ever experienced. Perhaps this is the new age hostel, or the European hostel, or the Irish hostel...I'm not certain as I don't have a lot of hostel experience. But, this was a location that had everything we needed, was safe, allowed for some fun, is in a superb location within Galway, and was at a very, very reasonable price. First of all for those that are more serious & regular true hostel users the Kinlay could not have been cleaner and more safe. I say that having had our own private room and not staying with strangers, but even if with strangers I think this place stands out as a uniquely upscale place. There were individual lockers within our room which we didn't need to utilize, but if traveling alone or staying with random travelers the lockers would have given significant peace of mind for any stuff I wanted secured. Our room had three bunk beds; could sleep six. The bunks beds were surprisingly comfortable, had privacy screen curtains to block out what else was happening in the room, and had electrical and tech plug-ins at each bed location. The shower & toilet area were as simple and utilitarian as you could get, but still clean and provided for their use just fine. The rooms were ultra simple, but that's what a hostel is all about. The Kinlay does have more traditional hotel rooms as well as larger more typical dormatory-style sleeping options. The common space was very, very nice & useable. Kitchen space, dining space, entertainment space with pool tables, seating, plenty of electrical outlets for your technology, vending machines for food & beverage (and condoms if needed!) That area was also staffed all of the times I was there, although I'm not sure if that is 24 hours a day. I used tables in that area with comfortable seating to work remotely at times as needed. My daughter & I stayed at Mt. Juliet Estate while on our trip around Ireland (look that place up)....as well as Kinlay Hostel. These two places could not be further from each other on the spectrum of lodging options, but Kinlay Hostel met our needs and was much more of a positive experience than I would have expected. And, saving some money with this stay at Kinlay allowed us to spend more at certain other stops on our trip. I would not hesitate to stay at Kinlay Hostel on my next trip to Galway - whether traveling alone or with my entire family. I am 59 years old and have teenage children. This was a great choice.

This hostel was brilliant, we booked out a room, as we had 4 kids, 4 adults staying, the bunks were the best I've ever seen, each had it's own curtain for privacy, bright light or dull red light and charging ports, very comfy, staff were great, very polite and accommodating, fabulous public area where all can sit chat, eat, drink, play pool and meet new people, or not, totally up to you, fab free breakfast, something for everyone, so may nice touches, we were able to take free sun cream and after sun during our stay as the weather was insanely hot, place was spotless and the centre of Galway,

    Do not stay here

    rating02 Jul 2025

Do not stay here. Have people walking in from the city on night out, turning on lights, arguing about beds at 4 in the morning... the worst place I have ever stayed.. never again.
