    Love this hotel

Have stayed here twice in the last 3 months and recently arranged an after funeral meal for 32 people. At all times the staff have been excellent. The food is very good and well priced. The service is brilliant, efficient and very personable. We will be back. A very comfortable hotel and easy to get to other parts of Kerry and further afield.

Biggest kip I’ve ever been in, possibly the worst staff I’ve ever experienced food was absolutely chronic along with special requests to meals not being adhered too whatsoever I’d advise anyone who even think of coming to this glorified dump to stay as far away as possible. I walked in the door and once being seated it was 34 minutes before my order was taken along with the food coming before the drinks order.

S**t show start to finish, 25 mins after being seated before anyone came to our table to take a order, not sure what was written down as order came out completely f**ked up, must’ve been her first day, starters came before our drinks, terribly ran, brutal staff

Like a faded grandeur dame, it’s rather charming if a little dated

    rating03 May 2026

This hotel is a little tired and in need of a refurbishment but having said, I rather liked it! The reception area and staircase are imposing I always say it’s not the absence of problems that tell you of the true nature of a place but how they are dealt with when they crop up. We had a loud fan extractor from somewhere outside that kept me awake most of the night. I called reception at 1 am and the night porter answered my call, investigated to see if it something he could fix and when he couldn’t said he would alert the manager and reception team so we could be relocated the next day. This happened seamlessly and the staff were all sympathetic and helpful. The rooms and beds are really comfortable although dated . The whole hotel was spotlessly clean . The restaurant serves tradition Irish food. The ham and colcannon was delicious if bland in appearance. Again the staff were friendly and very good. The buffet breakfast was a little limited in offering - with rather weak coffee and had sat for a while . All in all I wish this hotel well . Its faded grandeur gives it an odd charm and the staff were lovely and deserve it to survive and thrive .

    Dinner in the river island

    rating14 Mar 2026

We enjoyed a birthday dinner in the river island. it was a really enjoyable experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was just right without being intrusive. The food itself was excellent. The dishes were well presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with fresh ingredients. Each course arrived promptly and was cooked perfectly. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in the quality of what they serve.Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. Between the great service, comfortable setting, and delicious food, I would definitely recommend the river island to anyone looking for a lovely meal. I’ll certainly be returning in the future.
