    Visiting Temple Bar in Dublin

    rating25 Mar 2026

Great stay overall!Everything was perfect: fantastic location right in the city center and a great pub attached to the hotel. The only minor downside is that rooms facing Dame Street can be a bit noisy, but it’s very light and absolutely manageable. Would definitely stay again.

A venue for those with a high tolerance of noise!

A recent trip in Dublin for a friends wedding saw me take up a weekend in the Dublin Citi Hotel. I did next to zero research on place to stay, but my friend, who was heading to the wedding too, had already booked this, so I went with it.The building is pretty much smack bang in Temple Street and literally just round the corner from where the Dublin Express dropped me off when heading into the area from the airport.Check in was quick and painless, and I headed to my room on the second floor. I had a street view, but thanks to the balcony or fascia or whatever it is called, you can't see much anyway. The room was basic, very basic, stuck in the 1970's basic. There was a handle missing from the small wardrobe, electrical socket fittings were not straight, the toilet flusher moved within the wall (it felt like it would come away), and the shower curtain stuck to you as the bath tub was so narrow. This said, the place was fairly clean. However, the bed was very comfortable. Firm, and undoubtedly helped me get to sleep. I say sleep, but, being in Temple Bar, and without double/triple glazed windows, you could hear everything outside.People, traffic, police sirens (there was a lot of that over the weekend), music, shouting, and the like. The hotel room does come with earplugs, so if you want a quiet night, then rethink your stay here. The hotel is smack bang near all the good stuff, so location wise it is amazing - I mean there's a late opening Krispy Kreme a stones throw away! Oh and the River Liffey is mere minutes away.My stay included a continental breakfast (a hot food one is available for those paying extra) served in the bar (which is lively with live music at night), but it wasn't a buffet setting, the gentleman who wouldn't look out of place in the UFC came over with the goods. Coffee, toast, yoghurt, and a cinnamon bun. All nice. Now, I have to make special mention of the staff, all them very helpful, extremely pleasant, particularly the young lady, whose name I've forgotten (apologies), who, when I checked out, did her absolute best to get a taxi for me - taxis were not coming anywhere near due to the Dublin Marathon, and I had to walk about half a mile North before anyone would stop for me. I was very grateful that she tried, even though it was going to be a futile exercise (management, please raise her salary haha).Yes the hotel is dated, yes it is noisy (very noisy), but what do you expect? It is in the Temple Bar area, and, honestly, I was able to sleep despite the noise. However, the location is fantastic, breakfast is decent, and staff are amazing.

Amazing location. Excellent & professional staff. Couldn’t ask for a better location. Free breakfast is always a plus. Great views of a happening part of town. Fun vibe with a bar that plays live music And did I mention the location. This is a quirky property. The hotel is stretched across two buildings-and you can tell. While the location is awesome, the location is not quite. Our room was over the bar downstairs. But dear god, the location is amazing. I’d recommend just rolling with the quirks.
