Glad i don't have to sleep there again

    rating12 Nov 2023

Me and my school class arrived at the Kinlay House on the 21st October 2023 and stayed there for 3 days. When I entered the reception a bad smell reached my nose. When our teachers checked in they were told that the kitchen was closed so there was no breakfast (this stood nowhere on the website). Then we came to our room and we instantly noticed that the radiator didn't work. The curtains were dirty, the ceiling was partially broken, there was loads of dust on the windowsill and the windows could not be closed properly. There was only one positive thing: the beds were pretty clean. Our classmates had many problems too so our teachers asked if we could get new rooms. These room were a bit cleaner but the radiators still didn't work and water dripped off the ceiling. The temperature in the shower was cold and not adjustable.Summarized, I can just recommend everyone to book a different hostel in Dublin!

Handy location in Temple Bar district of Dublin

    rating04 Nov 2023

We stayed here 3 nights upon our arrival in Dublin and one more night after our Wicklow Way hike, great central location. Private room with ensuite - 2 twin beds that were comfortable - we slept well. The room faced the front busy street but we still slept well. Breakfast was self serve - cereals/toast/butter/jam - totally adequate and included in the room price. Dublin is very expensive to stay in and we wanted a central location in order to explore the city on foot and this place was a great location, staff were friendly. The second time we stayed it was a private room with ensuite with a double bed with single bunk - very cramped, but it did have a window to the front street and we were just there to sleep the night. There was construction going on while we were there but it didn't interrupt our sleep.

    Horrible

    rating21 Oct 2023

Ridiculous. I can't even list everything. You weren´t able to control the temperature of the water in the shower, which was eather too hot or too cold. In my case, it was so hot that everytime, we opened the bathroomdoor, the fire alarm went of, because of the steam. There was no breakfast and no money back because breakfast was a "free service" provided by Kinlay House. In my room there was actually a desk but without any chairs. The house was being renovated at the same time. Apparently, in Dublin you can also rent out a construction site to guests. We were woken up by demolition work. Apparently the builders had access to the rooms at all times, which they also made use of. Moreover, there were bright green exit lights right above our beds, staying on the whole night.

Hostel okay, breakfast simple, would be better if management responded to reviews to improve issues this place has

Stayed here from June13-15/23, it was my last place while I stayed in Dublin. Before I came here I received an email and never read it until I was at my first hostel in Dublin which it wanted me to confirm my stay there, but the issue was that when it was sent it was a day earlier and that was the day I had to go to the airport to catch my flight to Dublin so I never saw it until midway into the first day at the hostel so they cancelled my reservation.I was pissed off cause I had stayed at 3 hostels by this point and this was the only hostel that didn’t charge me a day or so after my deposit was paid…In London I stayed at 2 hostels and both of them charged my credit card about 24-36 hrs after deposit confirmation and same with my first hostel in Dublin. So when I went to check-in to the other hostels having everything paid, all I required was the confirmation paperwork which made check-in easy and I was also emailed an early check-in so all I had to do is show my passport for ID and everything was done but this was not efficient like the other places.I emailed about the situation and I basically told them I never read the email because I was at the airport when it was sent and I had no way to realize it was sent and the response was there was nothing they could do except that I had to rebook for the same 8-bed dorm room, I lost about $20-$30 for my deposit because of the stupidity of this place not saving me time by charging my card after the booking and then sending me a confirmation then like the rest of the 3 places I have a paid booking confirmation paper to provide them upon arrival. This place is not terrible by any means but there are a few things that require attention. My room was on the third floor and I swear the stairs were leaning to the railing side so that was very weird and at the top floor (3rd) the railing attached to the wall was looser than a hooker given birth to 12 kids.My room was basic and not that bad, it was comfortable for the most part and I had good roommates, a lady from Western Canada and an English guy from Liverpool who works in Dublin and a young girl that came for a concert. The English guy mentioned to leave the door open when I was there to let the air circulate because it was hot in the room. There were several bathroom/showers on the right and through the door as you go right when you get to the top of the stairs and they were okay, two shower stalls and two toilet stalls…The sinks were very small actually otherwise the bathrooms were not terrible. The door to go outside was weird as well for when I try to push the button and open the door it was stuck then the reception person tells me I have to push the button and push the door at the same time which after several tries it did work. It was best to get food in the afternoon/evening from a Lidl which is a supermarket and it was only a 5 minute walk from this hostel. The hostel did have a full self-serve kitchen so you can use an oven, microwave or the stove.Breakfast was the worst part of the place, very little food in the morning, bread, cereal, jam, milk and coffee. There was seating areas before you walk into the kitchen. Breakfast really needs to be improved like the other places that had fruit, meat, cheese, yogart. The location of this hostel was not that bad actually, it was only 20-30 feet from the Dublin HOHO bus Stop and about an 8-10 minute walk to the O’Connell Bridge.Since early March 2019 and before that there has only been at least 3 different people responding to these reviews (Tim guest relations, Larry T, guest relations, owner, is he both? Maybe! and some Kinley D)but only randomly and not all of them and it has been at least 4-1/2 years since the last response.Such a weird and stupid situation if you tell me, it also tells me a lot about this hostel and it’s lousy/constant changing ownership and management who doesn’t care about listening or sporadic responding to the people that stay at the hostel and giving details on the good and bad about this place and that they could use the information for improving this place.4.5 of 5 for location3 of 5 for décor and look of place1 of 5 for the weird feeling on the stairs1 of 5 for dangerous railing at the top of the stairs1.5 of 5 for amount and quality of food2 of 5 for issues of screwed up situation with having to pay twice for a bed2.75 of 5 overall for this place

    Recommend to use other hostel

    rating17 Oct 2023

I wasn't informed the kitchen is renovating and there is no breakfast and no access to the kitchen until I arrived. There is no compensation for that. The room has strange order which gives up headache. No bed light, but only one dim room light for everyone. That's not enough to read a book in your bed. No electric outlet for each person. I also went to Kinlay Hostel Galway. That was a clean and modern hostel I was really satisfied, but not this Kinlay House Dublin.
