    Hostel not Hotel

    rating24 Nov 2024

I would describe this establishment as more of a hostel than a hotel. Unfortunately, the overall quality did not meet our expectations.Food: The food was subpar, and a few members of our group even experienced food poisoning during our stay, which raised serious concerns about hygiene and food preparation standards.Rooms: The rooms were noisy, making it difficult to relax or get a good night’s sleep. Soundproofing seems to be lacking, and the disturbances from outside or neighboring rooms were a constant issue.Staff: On a positive note, the staff were friendly and welcoming. They made an effort to assist whenever possible, which was appreciated despite the other shortcomings.Overall, while the staff’s hospitality was commendable, the hotel fell short in key areas such as food quality and room comfort. I would recommend management focus on improving these aspects to better meet guest expectations.

    A pleasant resort hotel

I had to spend two weeks in Montesilvano at Grand Hotel. The rooms were fine, clean and the view was very nice. Would like to thank the maids, the chefs and the staff of the restaurants in the hotel, for their great service. Please change the pillows, too hard. and add some salads and Macedonia to the menu.

    Great experience

Nice hotel right on the beach. The a/c didn’t work the best but we had a corner room with two balconies so we had a nice ocean breeze to help. Food was excellent and the wait staff was fabulous. The boardwalk offers lots of places to eat and things to do but we are most of our meals at the hotel since it was included. Several choices for 1st and 2nd courses every night and we never had a bad meal. Lots of pastries for breakfast. If we’re ever back in Pescara/Montesilvano we will definitely stay here again

    Brilliant

The hotel is very classy and modern inside despite the old looking exterior. The highlight was the food. It was top quality freshly prepared meals. The food is selected from a paper menu now instead of buffet (during Covid) all guests and staff all wore masks which made you feel very safe. Claudio is the head waiter and is fantastic. Him and his team of waiters are just so polite and efficient. The menus are all in Italian so he helped me understand the food options and encouraged us to try several Italian dishes. The beach is on the doorstep which is very convenient. Free sun loungers and deck chairs. The hotel is ten min walk to nearest train station which is only €1 to Pescara and takes 6minutes. Local buses also very good. My only 2 complaints would be...The lady receptionist accused me of owing for a beer when I don’t even drink alcohol and wouldn’t of ordered one. She didn’t apologise for the accusation and was rude. You get a free bottle of wine with every meal. As I don’t drink I wanted a simple cup of tea instead of wine. But I had to pay. Can’t see the logic on this as Tea is way cheaper than a whole bottle of wine. Putting that aside the hotel is fantastic :-) I would definitely return. Thankyou Claudio

    Former glories?

    rating07 Oct 2019

Whilst not outrageously expensive, this place is not cheap. Sadly, it’s heyday was in the 70’s when apparently maintenance and staff training stopped too. Being largely marble and concrete, there is little to absorb sound, so the public rooms are excessively noisy, especially the Sunday night of our stay (29th) when there was an extremely loud party on the ground floor. I rang reception at half past ten to ask when the noise was likely to stop. I was told it would be at least another 2 hours (actually it ended at 1am) but that it was a private party so we could not join. To put the level of noise in perspective, I could not hear my headphones in our bedroom! On the second day of our (sadly) 6 day stay, I reported to reception that we were only getting lukewarm water - they sent the (very surly) maintenance man with me to “fix” it. His solution was to demonstrate the use of a tap to me by turning the tap to “hot” and testing the temperature. With a voila-gesture he proudly showed that it was working (it was not, the water was barely lukewarm), but I gave up at that point given that my Italian wasn’t up to a detailed discussion of the technicalities of decent hot water in an hotel room! Of course he failed to notice the broken plugs in both the sink he had used for his much needed lesson and in the bidet (pictures below). Also broken were the toilet seat, which the cleaner had become adept at balancing back in place, until I removed it completely on the 4th day and deposited it in the middle of the room - she called Mr Happy of the maintenance department and he fixed the (still broken) seat back in place so we didn’t then need to practise trapeze artist skills to use the lav - the lid was still broken and sharp but we learned to keep our bums away from the cutty bit!! You will also see that more balancing is required when hanging up a hand towel - we never got to a point where that one got fixed on any level. Observation skills were also clearly not in evidence from the cleaning staff in that on day 1 we had a glass of wine each - 5 days later, on the last day, the glasses were still exactly where we had left them that first night - the hotel’s solution, by the way, to providing drinking vessels is plastic cups, both in the rooms and in the dining room; just tacky!! Staff have also not been trained in the fact that their guests are largely on holiday and do NOT need to be dragged into the waking part of the day before 6 in the morning by their shouted revelry during frequent cigarette breaks seemingly just outside our window. NOT a pleasant stay and not to be repeated! Stay away!!
