Located on a main road some 2 km from the nearest beach (may be reached by descending a flight of steps), this hotel lies some 5 km from the resort centre. Surrounded by wonderful greenery, this hotel also enjoys a fabulous situation just 1.5 km from the historical old town that may be reached by making use of public transport. It is just a short distance from shopping areas with boutiques, bars and restaurants.

Facility

66 non-smoking rooms are located on 4 storeys and can be reached by lift. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. There are a number of shops as well. The grounds of the hotel feature a playground and a lovely garden. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park.     We visited Hotel Royal for the second time and we loved it. The staff are so friendly and we love the breakfast…especially the cappuccinos! Fernandinho on the reception desk is very helpful. Thanks and see you again this Summer :) Ashleigh and Steven from England

    A bit overpriced for a hotel somewhat past it's prime.

    We stayed here for about 3 nights in May(just off season). The hotel was virtually empty when we were there. We arrived by ferry at the port. The staff alerted us in advance to use a porter service to bring up the bags from the port. Thanks for this. The hotel is right on the little local Positano bus route with a stop right at the hotel entrance. This makes getting around very easy. Walking up and down to the town is a lot of work using the access stairways. We paid for a room upgrade with a nice terrace and the breakfadt included. Rooms are a bit tight by modern standards, but clean and well appointed. Ours had a couch as well. We had some difficulty with the minibar fridge not being very cold. Breakfast was in a nice dining room. You can sit out on a terrace as well. There is a good selection of items for breakfast. Fresh juice and coffee. We had one dinner here as well. The outdoor terrace is nice at night with great views of the town. The hotel is showing signs of its age in some of the infrastructure. Carpets worn a bit, elevator operating rough. The pool was not open yet, but the tables and loungers were looking a bit dated and sun faded. Getting around the building is a bit of a trick as the layout is complicated (cliffside construction) and signage could be better.At a total of 466 Euros per night there might be other options at a better value for money.

    Definitely not your average 4* hotel.

    We stayed here for 5 nights and can honestly say it is definitely not your average 4* hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful, my rating is not towards them in any way. I’ll start off with the fact that it would be extremely difficult for anyone with a physical disability or the elderly to get down the steps to get to reception. If you did want to hire a car, there is a 50€ fee per night just to park the car at the hotel. I have never been abroad before and heard of any hotel charging to park a car in the hotel. Even though it was very warm, the pool was out of use. Which we were not aware of. Getting down to the beach is also a very steep walk down stairs OR an extortionately expensive taxi. To get to your room, it’s an absolute mission and a maze. We had ice cream one night which was 10€ for 2 scoops. We had to send it away as it was hard and gloopy.

    the beautiful hotel royal positano an absolute gem.

    after having read some pretty dire reviews for this hotel we booked it for a week with some trepidation. well all we can say is that hotel royal is delightful. the views over positano and the sea and the immaculate gardens and the pool and tennis court are second to none. we had a free up grade to a suite with a terrace not because there was anything wrong with the first room far from it but because we fancied the odd cigarette and the lovely booking manager mr.gordann was only too pleased to help. the house keeper mrs gabbrella helped us move all our luggage and settled us into our new room and nothing was too much trouble, she even put a small table with an ash tray on the terrace to emphasize we could smoke there. a lovely lady. the whole place is immaculately clean, we had fresh towels daily, our bed changed and floors and bathroom cleaned every day. the spread at breakfast was very varied and delicious and the coffee excellent. there were gardeners and pool staff working every day keeping the outdoor areas beautiful. possibly the hotel is a little dated and worn in places but it just adds to the charm, who wants brand new in crumbly positano? its like asking it to be flat. on our early morning sad departure we were handed two paper carriers containing water. pastries, toast, jam and fruit for our journey. we vowed to return and the staff seemed genuinely delighted. so hopefully this review will encourage people to look at this lovely hotel in a very positive light. also try gabressa and pergoda both fab eating places.

    Overcharged at checkout, told to email for a refund, hotel ignored all emails. Thieves. Other than that hotel is outdated and pool is dirty and unattended. Restaurant limited choice and same for bar.
