The Best Hotel on the Amalfi Coast

    rating19 May 2026

This is a fabulous hotel. I first stayed here in 1992 and have stayed here several times since then over the years. This is the best hotel on the Amalfi Coast. The staff are wonderful - especially Constantino (a superstar) on reception, his colleagues Alphonso, Lucia, Roberta, Ariana, and Ricardo. Nothing is too much trouble for these superb professionals.Joseph, who is the first person you meet, staffing the main door, is a wonderful man - so kind, helpful, charming and friendly - a big smile every day.The cleaning ladies are a legend - they care for this hotel like it is their own home (and have been here for years).So.....why is The Marina Riviera so special? If you are a fan of family run, traditional glamour, spectacular sparkling vistas from every window, gleaming marble and original tiles, superb original treasures, iconic Riviera styling, quiet understated, classy luxury - this is the hotel for you.Ernesto, the Night Manager is a wonderful, smart, wise man who can be relied upon to fix anything. Also, an important fact - the same family who own this hotel, own the Santa Caterina Hotel on the other side of Amalfi ( yes, the Santa Caterina Hotel who looked after Hilary and Chelsea Clinton after Bills little indiscretion all those years ago.......the Santa Caterina Hotel that Brad and Angelina chose for their special trip, as well as countless other superstars.)Marina Riviera is the older sister......calm, spectacular, elegant perfect.Enjoy your meals on an unbelievably spectacular terrace overlooking the bay - you won't want to move (our breakfasts easily lasted for two hours.....one more cappuccino....)Constantino and his team on reception can sort anything out for you - excursions, restaurant bookings, cars, anything. We ate out every night following the recommendations of the hotel - and we doubled our body weight with incredible food! The staff on the rooftop pool bar are fantastic - incredibly patient with their fussy guests - drinks, meals, umbrellas, towels, moving locations, nothing is too much trouble. The location of this hotel is simply perfect, queues of people on the road outside risk their lives for a photo of the view you have all day from your window or balcony. At night the magical cleaning ladies come back to dress your room, leave a hand written weather forecast, leave you a lovely biscuit and some water, fresh towels, close your shutters.....wonderful.You wont find a polyester duvet in this hotel, gorgeous crisp cotton sheets and historic embossed coverlets, a wool blanket as required......a big chunky room key on a leather fob which you leave with Constantino on your wait out.... tried and tested systems which have worked for decades. We wouldn't stay anywhere else .........it's a little piece of heaven on the Amalfi Coast - hope to be back very soon in our favourite room - you know which one it is Constantino .......

A sparkling gem of a hotel

    rating13 Apr 2026

We have just been to this fantastic hotel as part of our 20th Wedding Anniversary trip. It truly is a stunning hotel centrally based in Amalfi. There are plenty of amenities, bars and restaurants, as well as attractions all in walking distance. It is centrally located for the bus and ferry ports as well. Before we arrived I contacted the hotel about local recommendations of restaurants and any festival celebrations as we would be there over Easter. Lucia was absolutely amazing, providing us with detailed information, dates and times. Nothing was too much trouble. There was nothing that was too much trouble for the front of house staff, including finding me an emergency safety pin when I had a dress malfunction. On arrival the hotel greeted us with a lovely anniversary gift which was unexpected and so kind. Giuseppe greeted us on arrival and took our bags, every evening and morning he was so cheery and friendly. He was also helpful at helping us know where to go. In fact all the porter and maintenance staff were lovelyWe were given room 90, which had a great view across the Amalfi coastline. Although we were on the front and above the main road, which at times could be noisy (due to the buses beeping when busy on the narrow streets) the windows and external shutters did a really good job of blocking these out. There was also minimal noise from other rooms, but we did go in a shoulder season so am unable to really comment on this. The Housekeeping staff were wonderful and friendly, Rosalba in particular was cheery and we conversed every morning. The rooms were kept exceptionally clean and there was a turn down service each night with Italian treats, including Easter eggs on Maundy Thursday. The housekeeping team were wonderful. Breakfast is extensive and delicious, a wide variety of cheeses, meats, fruits, vegetables, pastries and local specialities. There is also an amazing array of gluten free options, all carefully separated and packaged for safety. Eggs are cooked fresh from the egg menu at no extra charge. The same restaurant is used for evening dinner. This meal was exceptional (I have left a review of Terrazza17 separately)All the waiting staff were so lovely. We built some great friendships over the week and they were always providing us with advice about what to do or the best way to get somewhere. They even helped us with our Italian. Anna and Gianmarco in particular were warm and interested in their guests. Gianmarco is also a hiking guide and he does do tours, as well as providing advice about the local walking routes. We were unable to use the rooftop pool until the last day as it had been very cloudy. However, whilst the pool was cold for me (due to the seasonal temperature) the area was well looked after and the bar was very good. Without doubt, this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. Friendly but high end, welcoming and classy, nothing is too much trouble. Would I go back - yes.

    Highly Recommend!

    rating10 Apr 2026

This was the absolute perfect place to stay for our honeymoon! The views, service and location were all equally amazing. Speaking of service - We woke up our first morning to construction being done in the room above us, so we called the front desk just to see how long we should expect it to go on for. We received a call back shortly after offering to upgrade us to a suite as an apology for the inconvenience. An unexpected and much appreciated bonus to our stay! We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone vacationing to Amalfi. Thank you, Hotel Marina Riviera!

    A standout stay in Amalfi

    rating08 Apr 2026

Hotel Marina Riviera is truly something special. The location is perfect — just a short walk from the main square, yet peaceful enough to escape the crowds. On arrival we were greeted with a lovely bottle of red wine and nibbles - after a long day of travel, it was just the welcome we needed! The views are breathtaking. Waking up to the Amalfi coastline and watching the town glow in the evening felt like something out of a postcard. We were lucky to have a room at the end, which felt incredibly private — with our own balcony overlooking the sea and a jacuzzi bath that made the whole stay feel that bit more indulgent. The hotel itself is full of charm, set within a beautiful historic building with a light, classic Mediterranean feel.Breakfast was a highlight — a great selection, made to order eggs, made even better by those stunning views. What really elevates this hotel though is the service. The staff are warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming throughout, nothing is ever too much. The housekeeps were excellent too, room was cleaned top to bottom every morning with an evening turn down where fresh glass bottles of water are delivered along with soft amaretti biscuits/chocolates. The staff helped us book a lovely Pompeii tour where a mini bus picks you up right from the hotel and drops you back. The tour guide was really knowledgeable and made the tour and journey very interesting. A truly memorable stay — we wouldn’t hesitate to return, and we would recommend this hotel to others!
