    Positano

    rating05 Oct 2025

The view was what we were going for and exactly what we got. This was a lovely hotel on the main drive into town. The view was breathtaking. The hotel has older motif, which we enjoy. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice porch with a table two chairs and a lounge chair. We spent a lot of time on the porch overlooking the sea.. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The staff set up our transfers from Naples to Positano and back to Naples, which I greatly appreciated. The hotel is steps to some very nice restaurants and a gelato shop. And having included breakfast served to you on the porch every morning was awesome. Positano is steep and includes a lot of steps, as are all of the towns on the Amalfi coast, except maybe Maiori. This hotel was on the main road in to town so it was possible to walk on the road to town and back. We would take the steps down and then walk the road back. It was an incline but not nearly as steep as the steps. Ferries run all day from Positano to all the others towns on the Amalfi. We loved this hotel and have already recommended it to several friends looking to go to the Amalfi coast.

Ants in our room, horrible experience

    rating01 Sept 2025

I am going to leave as detailed and factual of a review of my nightmare of an experience as possible here. What was supposed to be a vacation to paradise started like a nightmare. We climbed 350 steps, saw a sign for Palazzo Talamo and knocked. A sweet couple came out, but it wasn’t the front desk. Overhead, we heard a cry that “check in is up here, you’re at the wrong door”, we look up to see the receptionist, who has not offered any help with our bags or even to let us up the elevator. Already up to a bad start. We get to a lobby, the receptionist immediately tells us to close the door behind us, even though we are struggling to catch our breaths and get all of our baggage through. She then proceeds to try to turn off the a/c, to “help us not catch a cold”, although it’s the middle of the summer and we had just taken two flights, a bus, and a ferry to be there. We were like, please keep the A/C on at least. Other hotels would have given us water at this point. The next 30 minutes felt like a timeshare commercial, where every excruciating fee was explained. Mind you, the room was $450 USD a night, which wasn’t cheap and we couldn’t care less if the water was an extra $3. To top it off, she explained that the “complimentary” breakfast was really just 1 item per person, and those items were divided by toast, and jam, so if you wanted both toast and jam, you would have to get your jam one day, and toast another. What was extra creepy was, our room was literally the door right next to the receptionist, so she said “your room is just right there, nice and close” and followed us in to show us into our cramped room and stick the prices of the minibar in the fridge. At this point, we were like…okay lack of privacy and annoyed, but not the end of the world.Once she left, I go to wash my hands and noticed a few ants, but didn’t want to make a scene so I just killed them and ignored the problem. We left for dinner and came back and there were a few more ants, but once again, not a huge problem. The next day, we ate our “complimentary” breakfast and one of the yogurts tasted really bad, so we stopped eating. We went to our day in Capri, and was super tired when we came back so was so excited to take a shower. Once we came back, we came home to an absolute nightmare: our bathroom was covered in thousands of ants. Our toiletries bags was a nest of ants, our retainers and retainers case had so many ants that we had to throw everything away. We immediately went to the front desk and he came in with a bucket of water and a spray to clean up the problem as best as he could. We were exhausted and horrified that a room we had paid so much for and was so excited about in this “luxury” accommodation had such unsanitary conditions, so we asked to be moved to a room without ants. The guy said he had no other rooms available, and asked us to speak to the manager, who will be in the next morning. The morning arrives, and our breakfast came with a moldy yogurt (see photo), which explained why our yogurt the day before tasted horrible. The ants problem came back, and we had had it. We told the manager, showed her the photos, she almost dropped our phones out of horror, and came into the room immediately. Then, she asked us what we would like her to do about it since she has no other rooms to give us. We asked for at least a refund of the night we had to spend cleaning/killing ants, and she called us dishonest since she gave us a bed to sleep in. We were horrified by the treatment and meanness of the staff and the lack of professionalism displayed by the employees at Palazzo Talamo and will not be returning. They also implied that we “brought” the ants in our toiletries bag, and said they had “no idea where our bag came from”, which is beyond rude. We understand that ants are beyond either parties’ control, but the way they handled things was absolutely unfair, and totally not professional and I believe everyone should know that before booking this hotel.

    View is worth the steps!

    rating24 Aug 2024

Myself and my partner stayed in this hotel for 4 nights in May this year. It was the perfect location for exploring. The rooms are dated, and beds not the most comfortable. But we didn’t expect it to be 5*. However the rooms are cleaned everyday so cannot complain. We booked a sea view room and oh my god the views are just incredible. You cannot beat it. Breakfast was included but is very basic. We didn’t end up eating this again after day 1. We weren’t naive to know positano is renowned for steps, but Christ are there a lot of steps!! From the beach back to your room it is a 20 minute continuous walk of steps, and the last stretch to the hotel is very steep. However, you cannot get the view without this, so it did not negatively impact our stay in any way.Great location, and friendly staff. Think the rooms could do with an upgrade and would be nice if there was a hotel bar to enjoy a drink before heading out for dinner. Positano is expensive anyways, and think we paid around £300 a night for this hotel which was average for the area.

You looking for an amazing view? Here is your dream!

    rating08 Jun 2024

Hi there, This is my first trip to amalfi and I loved this areaAnd about talamo hotel:Very kind staff, beautiful and romantic viewlarge roomBreakfast was served on the terrace every day❌The important and negative point for me is that not much effort has been made to renovate this hotel, the walls are made so thin that I was forced to wake up every day from the sound of fanning and talking and listening to the news of my next-door neighbor at 6am in the morning!!!! and this is very I was unpleasant. I could not rest well and insomnia made me feel bad🤕 hard bed. Bad quality mattress, dated room. when I asked for a blanket, they gave me an 18th century blanket 😂 very old quilt and bedspread. When we sat on the terrace, we didn't have any personal space with our neighbors and we had to tolerate each other (during breakfast or at night when drinking), I liked to be alone with my husband in that wonderful space. 🍋The best possible location, lovely view ♥️

The sea views trump the noisy rooms

    rating18 Oct 2023

This is a traditional small Italian hotel, which gets you into the heart of Positano. The decor is traditional - no minimalist modern settings, here. If you’re not a fan of painted tiles, then this might not be for you. But then again, Positano might not be for you, either. You already know that Positano doesn’t work if you are a person of limited mobility - it’s a resort of steps. Lots of steps…The hotel staff were efficient, charming and helpful. (Not always a guaranteed thing, in Italy.)The room was spotlessly clean, and efficiently cleaned daily. Breakfast was a good Italian breakfast. Two reasons why it doesn’t get my 5 stars:1) the walls and floors are thin. It’s a traditional building, built to those standards. You can hear showers, toilet flushes, voices etc. And in the middle of one of our nights here, two adjoining rooms were clearly having a great time , and our room sounded like it had been teleported into a porn film set. Easy initial solution for the hotel : replace the beds with some that don’t squeak …2) there is no communal space other than a small bar at reception. This means that it’s difficult to find a shady place to relax and chat with friends in other rooms , other than your own small room terrace. This is not fixable, as horizontal land space in Positano is at a huge premium. It’s perhaps a shame that the hotel has closed its breakfast room.On the positive side, the views of the sea are superb, and each room has one. It’s not perfect, but Italy isn’t perfect…
