    Please walk away 😖

    rating29 Sept 2025

We wanted to get a nice lunch in this place that is so beautiful. What a disappointment !!! 3cm of local wine glass. For 38 Euros per unit ( I would not day glass as it was almost empty, proposed to you with a smile.... what an expensive one. Tasteless Risotto with one poor broiled raw scampi. 30 Euro per plate. Stop the shame. Do not enter this place. Giorgio V, at Villa Cimbrone Hotel, responded to this review Dear Bruno D,Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your lunch did not meet your expectations. Hotel Villa Cimbrone is a five-star property set in a unique historical and natural context, and our panoramic terrace lunch offers a casual yet refined experience, designed to showcase the best of local, high-quality ingredients in a setting that’s anything but ordinary. The wine you refer to is one of Campania’s most acclaimed white wines — served by the glass in a large red wine glass, specifically chosen to highlight its aromas and complexity. While this type of glass might make the pour seem modest, rest assured that the quantity is more than generous. As for the risotto: it is a long-standing signature dish of our Chef, prepared with delicate prawn tartare — not simply a "broiled scampi" — and has been consistently appreciated by our guests and critics alike. At €30, it is actually below the average price of a first course in Ravello, especially remarkable given the unique location, attentive service, and overall experience. We understand that expectations vary, and so do preferences. Dining at Villa Cimbrone is not intended to replicate the simplicity of a tourist trattoria — nor, we suspect, should it. Still, it seems the essence of what we offer may have been, unfortunately, lost in translation. That said, I would personally be delighted to welcome you back to Villa Cimbrone, should you wish to give us another try. I’d be more than happy to offer you a new tasting of both the wine and the risotto — this time, perhaps with the chance to talk through the dish, the glass, and the context they belong to. Sometimes, a deeper understanding can transform an experience — especially in places where every detail has a story to tell.Warm Regards,Raimondo Lanzieri, Food & Beverage Manager @ Hotel Villa Cimbrone

    Buona fortuna!

    rating23 Sept 2025

First - we were never told about the parking situation. After a brutal drive to the hotel from Paestum we pulled up to where Google Maps told us to drive to. NO HOTEL THERE AND NO SIGN. So we call and they tell us to go park in someplace that is like a town away?!? HUH?? We do not understand this and end up driving thru the tunnel into the town square (FOR 100 EURO FINE). Both of these things are done by hundreds of tourists a year trying to find their way to Villa Jibrone - per numerous conversations after the fact and in reading the reviews online. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT VILLA JIBRONE! We ended up parking at the Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium which was a LIFE SAVER! THEY WERE GREAT THERE and it reminds me to write a wonderful review about them. Thank god for them as we handed them our keys and our luggage completely blindly and walked away in dire need of a cocktail!Second - there was no empathy at the front desk at all for the $hyt show created. They were so over dealing with their guests and that could clearly be seen. There were high maintenance Americans dealing with a wedding that were stressing them out and they had the program to a science. Go sit down below with a welcome prosecco and wait for us to call you. They were just cold as ice and completely clueless as to how the front desk should be run at a high end boutique hotel. We went down to the pool on our own and ordered lunch and the pool worker was so much better than the front desk staff - he clued us in to getting changed and enjoying the pool while we waited. The food there was good and the atmosphere was chill and nice down by the pool.Third - the room was just so below average. The hotel itself is exceptionally nice but the room we got was just crap. I have stayed in hundreds of amazing hotels and we had just been on Amalfi at a wonderful hotel and the room was as disappointing as the whole parking situation. Fourth - the hotel is part hotel part sightseeing destination for the general public. That was our next surprise - as we sat and had lunch any idiot that had paid the admission to the park would walk in and take pictures of the pool and the hotel. So you have that to look forward to as you lie out at the pool - like a monkey in the zoo.Fifth - departure is as stressful as arrival as we needed to catch a flight out early in the morning. But I have to leave you, my reader there, as I have vented long enough. If you have gotten to this point and have read this much you will perhaps find out on your own the departure procedure (especially if it is early am!) GOOD LUCK - Or as they say in Italian - buona fortuna

    Great views, horrible service.

    rating11 Aug 2025

Views were great and gardens were lovely, but outside of this the hotel was not great. When we arrived we had to walk up about 15 minutes of stairs to reach the actual hotel entrance. The rooms had AC but were too small to unpack. The staff were not very welcoming and acted almost as if they did not want us there. While using the facilities we felt very rushed, especially when using the pool. The staff at the pool was constantly cleaning up to close down the place even during the hours of operation which felt as if they wanted us to leave and like we were an imposition. They also asked for our room number repeatedly in scenarios in which it was entirely unnecessary, making it seem even less like they wanted us there, and more like they didn’t believe we were guests. Finally, when it was time to leave we had kindly asked the workers at the front desk to have the porter service assist us with our bags. We even had a family member go down to confirm this request 45 minutes prior to our departure. Despite all this, the porter never showed up so we dealt with our baggage by ourselves. He finally showed up 15 minutes later resulting in a late departure. We recomend to visit the gardens, but not to stay overnight. Giorgio Vuilleumier, Proprietario at Villa Cimbrone Hotel, responded to this review Dear @492katharync We thank you for sharing your perspective with us: every comment encourages us to constantly improve. We're sorry to read your review since it is the first time for us to hear a complaint about these things. This will help us clarify some important points that perhaps were not properly understood. We are glad to remind you that Villa Cimbrone is reachable only by walking and it is clearly stated in our pre-arrival letter that you received "The hotel is located in a secular park, and it can be reached from Ravello center in approx. 15 minutes’ walk only. It is not possible to reach the hotel by car."As concerns the size of the rooms, it depends on the category (for example, a classic room is smaller than a superior or a deluxe). In addition, Villa Cimbrone attracts thousands of visitors every year, for this reason at the check-in we give a key holder with the room number on it in order not to be confused with a visitor. Regarding the cleanliness of the pool, our staff clean the pool constantly because of Leaf fall, since it is located in a park, and they want to ensure our clients a place that is as comfortable as possible. We end by inviting you to visit us again: we're confident that a visit will help you appreciate our Hotel Villa Cimbrone and Staff and demonstrate that a few hours' journey can truly be worth it.

Peaceful and refreshing escape on top of a mountain!

    rating06 Aug 2025

This is one of my favourite hotels in the world. Sitting on top of a mountain, with stunning views of both the sea and other mountains for miles on end. Pictures don't do it justice, it has to be seen with your own eyes to be truly appreciated. Just be prepared for a short 10 minute hike with stairs to reach the hotel, since there are no direct roads accessible, but your luggage will be taken care of by the hotel porters. The walk to the hotel is a refreshing experience itself, giving you a taste of the Ravello mountain life! The staff were all polite and professional, catering to our every need. We went for our wedding anniversary, and the staff accommodated us at every moment, even opening up their helipad for our pickup during departure. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful escape far away from noise and people!

A sensory journey through taste, history and landscape

    rating18 Jul 2025

The experience begins the moment you enter the enchanting medieval building, rich in Norman architectural charm. The atmosphere is steeped in history and elegance, setting the tone for a truly special evening. The staff welcomed us with warmth and professionalism, making us feel immediately at easeWe began our evening indoors, surrounded by timeless beauty, and later moved to a table on the terrace. We had the ‘orti e lampare’ menu’ a perfect blend of elegance and flavor, with a clear tribute to local ingredients and the sea. Every dish was beautifully presented and delicious. We enjoyed a sensory journey through taste, history, and landscape. A must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable culinary experience in Ravello. Giorgio Vuilleumier, Proprietario at Villa Cimbrone Hotel, responded to this review Dear NorthStar276481,Thank you sincerely for your kind and thoughtful words. We are truly pleased that your experience at Villa Cimbrone was both memorable and meaningful. Our mission is to offer not only a culinary experience, but also to convey the profound sense of history, art, and culture that defines this unique place. Every dish we create is deeply inspired by the extraordinary setting of Villa Cimbrone and the surrounding territory, drawing from our vegetable and fruit gardens combined with a careful selection of local producers. The Orti e Lampare menu was conceived precisely to embody this philosophy—an experience that brings together territory, tradition, and history in a refined yet authentic journey through taste. We thank you once again for choosing to share this moment with us, and we hope to welcome you back in the near future.Warm regards,Raimondo Lanzieri, F&B Manager at Hotel Villa Cimbrone
