  If you are looking for a peaceful escape from the fast-paced hustle of Italy’s major cities like Florence and Rome, Monastero di Cortona Hotel & Spa is the absolute perfect retreat. Proudly holding 1 MICHELIN Key for exceptional hotel hospitality and perfectly situated right within the ancient city walls, this beautifully renovated former monastery effortlessly balances historical character with high-end, modern amenities.Location, Parking & AtmosphereThe hotel’s position in the heart of Cortona is unbeatable. Because it is located inside an ancient hilltop town, driving and parking can be a bit tricky—however, the hotel staff provides incredibly detailed instructions and assistance ahead of time to make getting your car to the hotel completely seamless. Once arrived, you can easily step out the front door to wander through the charming small borgo, live like a local, take an afternoon siesta, and stroll back out in the cooler evening air. It serves as an ideal sanctuary to recharge your batteries between big city stops while taking in the stunning views of the rolling Tuscan hills.World-Class Dining & Sunset ViewsBreakfast in the tranquil courtyard was heavenly each morning, featuring delicious hot-to-order options alongside a beautiful spread. For dinner, the hotel's fine-dining restaurant delivered a truly memorable culinary journey. The pre-set tasting menu was delectable, and the Maitre d’ provided flawless, attentive service throughout the evening (I will be posting a separate detailed review just for the restaurant!). In the late afternoon, lounging by the wading pool offers a front-row seat to one of the most breathtaking Tuscan sunsets you will ever see.Rooms & AmenitiesOur room was immaculately clean, exceptionally well-appointed, and featured incredibly comfortable bedding. Visiting during a particularly warm time of year, we were extremely grateful for the powerful, quiet air conditioning. A quick note for future guests: the pool is designed strictly as a small dipping/wading pool rather than a lap pool, but it is wonderfully refreshing on a hot day. While we didn't have enough time during our short stay to try the spa facilities, the spa area is gorgeous with an inviting treatment menu—definitely a priority for our next visit!Top-Notch ServiceWhat truly elevates Monastero di Cortona is the exceptional staff. Everyone was remarkably courteous, warm, and accommodating from start to finish. A special mention goes to the Hotel Manager, Flavia, who is an incredible host—she genuinely delights in connecting with guests and making sure every detail of your stay is perfection.Between the spotless cleanliness, top-tier comfort, refined amenities, and genuine hospitality, I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It is an absolute gem in Tuscany, and we will definitely return on our next journey through the region!   Monastero di Cortona is a truly beautiful and relaxing experience. The hotel is luxurious, peaceful and beautifully designed, with an atmosphere that immediately makes you slow down and unwind.The service was highly professional, the food was absolutely exceptional, and every detail felt refined and well considered. The surrounding area is stunning, with breathtaking Tuscan views that make the whole experience even more special.A wonderful place for relaxation, tranquility and a true escape. Highly recommended. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, but what we will remember most is the wonderful people who made our stay so memorable.The customer service was exceptional from beginning to end. The front desk staff greeted us with such warmth and were always there to help with anything we needed. The bartenders were friendly and welcoming, the servers were attentive and gracious, and honestly, every single staff member we encountered made us feel genuinely cared for.What stood out to us was how personal the service felt. It wasn’t simply five-star service because everyone was professional—it was five-star service because everyone was kind, warm, thoughtful, and sincere. You truly felt that they wanted you to enjoy every moment of your stay.There are many beautiful hotels in Italy, but it is the people who make you want to return. The staff at Monastero di Cortona did exactly that for us.We leave with wonderful memories and a sincere appreciation for everyone who made our stay so special.   Stunning hotel in Cortona

  We traveled Tuscany extensively and lodged in only 5 star hotels. The Monestero di Cortana was awaiting our arrival. The hotel sits high on the hill with fabulous views. The hotel lobby, interior rooms, restaurants and bedrooms rooms are light bright clean updated and decorated beautifully. The GM and staff are very attentive to details and inquired frequently about our stay and our needs. The pool area is just perfect with enough lounge chairs in a private setting with attentive staff and stunning views. The town of Cortona is a great reflection of Tuscany with many shops, a central plaza near hotel and fabulous views. You will not be disappointed.   The hotel is fabulous. We have stayed at a number of high end hotels and this was one of the best. Great location with restaurants nearby. Staff were excellent and helpful. Took the train to Florence one day which was very good.Stunning breakfast every day. Good pool for cooling down.Small negatives:- no chest of drawers or free shelves in the room. Made it hard to unpack.- the approach road is narrow. Made for an interesting drive in and out.
