  Expensive anti climax - tent lot cheaper

  Top note - heart of city centre, pedestrian zone, most historical points within 10min walk.Grand old building, large rooms, clean, decor mix of old & modern, Chinese dragon VERY odd amongst 13th C look!!Bottom note - rubbish WIFI - had to switch off, third rate service - rooms don’t get cleaned unless you remind, mediocre breakfast served by irate, rude staff.Hotel charges you for water in the room - must be a Guinness Record entry, got stopped from carrying water from breakfast (another first).No help with luggage.NOT cheap hotel for so very poor service!Hotel couldn’t be bothered to be told - they have a stream of gullible visitors - like us & many more across the pond!!AVOID. After your previous review on Booking.com, we already addressed several statements that did not correspond to the facts. Your Tripadvisor review now adds further claims that require clarification.You state once again that you were charged for “water in the room”. As already explained, the first two bottles placed in the room are complimentary; the charge concerned two additional glass bottles taken from our restaurant. Your new statement that you were stopped from taking water from breakfast is equally misleading. The water available in the breakfast room is provided for guests during breakfast, as part of the breakfast service. It is therefore hardly surprising that it cannot simply be taken away from the breakfast area. The implication that our guests are somehow expected to have breakfast without water is as absurd as the claim that we charge guests for tap water.You also repeat that rooms are not cleaned unless guests remind us. We have already explained what actually happened during your seven-day stay: on several occasions our staff had to contact your room to ask whether you wanted housekeeping, including repeatedly over two days. Presenting this as staff simply “forgetting” to clean your room is therefore not an accurate account of events.The same applies to your statement that the hotel “couldn’t be bothered to be told”. This is particularly difficult to reconcile with the fact that none of the issues you now describe — Wi-Fi, housekeeping, breakfast service, luggage assistance or any other matter — was reported to Reception during your stay. Our team cannot resolve problems that are never brought to its attention.Finally, describing the hotel as providing “third rate service” and telling other travellers to “AVOID” is of course your personal opinion. However, when opinions are accompanied by statements presented as facts, we are entitled to correct the record. Hotel Roma has been operating in Bologna for more than 150 years, and we take our reputation and the accuracy of public statements concerning our business seriously. We will therefore retain both reviews and the relevant documentation should our legal counsel consider further action appropriate.We have no objection to genuine criticism, even when it is severe. What we cannot accept is a repeated account containing factual statements that can be objectively disproved.   The perfect location with a very comfortable room and delicious breakfast!

  We have been to Bologna many times and this was our first time at the Hotel Roma. The location couldn’t be any better. We had a beautiful suite with balcony that looked out on a nice pedestrian street. We could see the Neptune statue from our balcony. The staff were efficient and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious with lots of choices. The room had a comfortable sitting area and a curtain dividing it from the bedroom. The bathroom was spotless with nice amenities. I highly recommend this hotel as the place to stay in Bologna.   lovely room, great location

  Excellent location just off main square, easy to walk everywhere.Staff were fine but insisted you wait until 3pm to get room (it was 2:15), which is always annoying.Modern well equipped room, large with large bathroom with standup shower, lovely terrace with afternoon sun.Standard buffet breakfast was fineOverall hotel in great location, very nice room with fabulous terrace, recommended Cristiana Nalin, Proprietario at Hotel Roma, responded to this review Dear Bruce,Thank you for your review. However, our standard check-in time is 3:00 p.m., as indicated at the time of booking. Before a room can be assigned, it must be thoroughly cleaned and prepared after the departure of the previous guests.   Great location at a higher cost

  Location, location, location! At this hotel, you are half a block from the main square in Bologna. Everything is within a short walk, including more restaurants than most cities, upscale clothing stores, a pharmacy, and historical sights. I chose the Superior room, and it had plenty of space for us and our luggage. If you are expecting Hilton-level gold fixtures—forget it. But the beds were comfy, the room clean, and everything was in good taste. True, the decor isn’t UPPER scale American Chain Hotel perfection, but darn close. It is not shabby, but very nice. Breakfast was good, with loads of desserts/pastries, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, cold cut meats, cereal and fruits. Coffee was brought to you by kind staffers. If you want ultra-fancy, go elsewhere. But, if you want a very good room, good breakfast, and a great location, stay here. You will pay for the location, as it is a bit on the pricier side.
