A wonderful luxury upgrade after a long journey!

After a long day of travelling by train, this hotel was a particularly pleasant surprise. Upon arrival, the friendly receptionist kindly offered us a complimentary upgrade to a luxury suite.The room was indeed spacious, elegant, and everything you would expect from a luxury suite. It featured a very large and comfortable bed, thick high-quality curtains, a large TV screen, and a minibar with coffee- and tea-making facilities underneath. The room also included a comfortable seating area with a stylish two-seater sofa and armchairs.The décor combined beige, wood, and brown tones, creating a warm and sophisticated atmosphere. The bathroom had a very spacious walk-in shower with tasteful lighting. Opposite the bathroom was a separate dressing/storage area with plenty of room for luggage and belongings. Unlike in many less luxurious hotel rooms, it was wonderful to be able to keep our bags neatly stored out of sight.Breakfast was extensive and offered much more than the usual selection of Italian pastries. There were also plenty of bread rolls, dairy products, cereals, and fresh fruit.A fantastic treat and a wonderful stay! The best experience!

We had an absolutely marvelous time at the Excelsior in Bologna! I am positive we have never encountered kinder or more helpful staff members in our many hotel stays. I want to highlight a few people. First, Munna was exceptional at the front desk, caring for my mother who had some difficulties when we were there. The ice sent up to her room was especially kind. He also inquired in town about some medical solutions for my father. We also wanted to highlight Alexandra and the front desk manager Silvia. My parents had more experience with them, but phoning the room to check on my mom and sending the gift of jam was extremely thoughtful; Silvia was also helpful in many other ways.I also want to compliment the housekeeper who was there when we arrived; I am sorry I missed her name. When she saw that the kids loved the bathrobes and slippers, she immediately brought several more so the kids could feel the luxury of the space while we were there.We also very much enjoyed the breakfasts and how close the hotel was to other sites. Finally, we had drinks and dinner one evening and the drinks/meal and many servers' attention that evening were also superb. We have no complaints about anything at the hotel (only that the parking is indeed tight to enter, but the attendant was also kind and finished parking the vehicle). Very convenient location for the train station and tourist bus. A distance to old Bologna but as we had two day hop on hop off bus ticket that was fine. A nice breakfast. Consistent WiFi. The reception staff seemed inexperienced, rushed and unable to understand requests. We should have had slippers and a kettle. These were requested although one pair of slippers at first which was surprising as there were two of us. A comfortable bed. Disappointing that their plumber had to fix our toilet which stopped flushing. Had a temporary fix first and then the following day was permanently sorted. The fire alarm went off and I rang reception to see what was happening and no one answered. We used the fire exit to walk down to reception only to find no information as reception didn’t know what had happened. We were very shocked that there was nobody on each floor reassuring guests. The room was very clean. We certainly wouldn’t consider staying here again. Customer service poor. Loved having a bathtub

Right across the street from the train station. Very clean hotel and loved that it had a bathtub. This hotel may be in a very busy location but it was with a great view and actually had two windows which I have never seen before which made it so quiet.We paid extra for breakfast which was 15E each but we found it worth it to be able to have a good breakfast in the hotel before heading out.
