Great hotel with lovely staff

We had a great stay. The food is good and not expensive. A good selection of drinks. Great air conditioning in the room. We loved the beach and pool.A big thank you to Giuseppe who looked after us in the restaurant and to Rosanna who seems to be everywhere and always smiling and helpful,Emanuela on reception was very helpful to us. The man on the golf buggy also deserves a thank you. Very poor - Hotel is nice but the management on reception are poor. Got messed around on our first day and it did not improve from there. Was advised 'Our hotel - Our rules' when they went into our room and and moved our belongings to a different room after we had previously asked them to tells us so we could move our belongings. They lost an item in the move and they said they would check. Half an hour later I was told that nothing was left in the room. I went up to reception and advised where the item was in the room and had a torrent of abuse form the manager who started screaming in Italian to a younger embarrassed colleague but clearly shouting compensation on several occasions and then mocking me when I left screaming 'thank you' at the top of her voice again several times. Half an hour later they knocked on my room door and returned my item without a sorry.When we checked out there was an issue with items that had been added to our room they wanted us to pay for. Even after I had showed them the card payment on my phone proving we had paid the bill at the time there was still a big fuss and took ten minutes to resolve. The area is lovely and the hotel would be okay but some of the rooms are very dated and basic and I would not want to risk the wrath of the manager as first impressions are lasting impressions. We understand your frustration with the lack of a Do Not Disturb sign, the room amenities, and the inconvenience caused by the housekeeping staff.Do Not Disturb signs are available at reception and can be provided directly in your room. As for amenities, we offer basic soap and shampoo; if you'd like shower gel, lotion, or other items, we're happy to provide them upon request and discuss options for replenishing the minibar, subject to availability. We're already reviewing the situation with our housekeeping team to avoid disturbances in the morning and improve the in-room experience.Thank you for your review, which helps us improve. Tranquil Tonicello

Tonicello is set in an idyllic location on the Capo Vaticano coast. Surrounded by lush vegetation with amazing views of the Aeolian Islands accommodation is scattered throughout the grounds of the hotel. The atmosphere is tranquil, low key and relaxed.A little golf buggy provides a taxi service down to the private beach and beach bar, and there is also a Spa onsite .Breakfast is served in the restaurant overlooking the sea, the ideal way to start your day. The railway station is a 10min walk away where you can catch trains to Tropea, Reggio Calabria, Scilla and Pizzo. Hotel staff can help with organising day trips to the Aeolian Islands, and are very helpful with general queries etc. Staff and owners are very polite, helpful, and pleasantAll in all we had a very nice holiday at the Tonicello Hotel. Excellent all round. Super staff. A breakfast that was amazing. The most beautiful gardens and a lovely pool. Very clean and tidy. Connections could not be easier. Train from Lametzia to the station where hotel staff pick you up on golf buggy. Beach within easy reach. Crystal clear sea.
