5 Star charge for a 2 Star at best!

We were somewhat disappointed with our stay at this property. There were good reviews on it so that’s why we chose it. It’s a historical property in a great location. The location is the “plus”. Close to the cruise terminal and I believe that’s where many of their guests utilizing the hotel are destined. The property is very dated. It was clean but cleanliness only gives it so many points. The lobby sitting area sofa’s desperately need to be re-upholstered and cushions re-stuffed. The walls in our room had many chips/gouges in the finish, needed repainting. Rust stains in the bathroom. Shower stall very small. We appreciate the historical significance but with the room rates charged, they charge for a 5 star but it’s really a 2 star. The restaurant is advertised as open (on Expedia) but it is not. A bright spot was the daily breakfast. They use the restaurant area and it is large with plenty of seating and a great selection of items. Front desk staff pleasant and helpful. They did indicate caves (grotto) below the hotel available to explore but that area was closed off too.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights prior to our western Mediterranean cruise. It is a nice hotel with comfortable rooms and an amble space for breakfast which has a variety of hot/cold items. This hotel is located in a good area- a stone's throw away from the train and bus transit. Also a 5 to 10 minute drive from the cruise port. You are a few minutes away from a boardwalk/beach area. There are also several restaurants and shops in this area as well. Its a busy yet vibrant area.

Hotel itself is pleasant & Civitavecchia is OK for 1-2 nights before or after a cruise. Hotel faces the sea which has & paved beach front walkway with restaurants & bars & is an easy 5-10 minute walk from the train station & 5-10 minute taxi ride to the Cruise Port. However, this property could be so much better with little added effort. House-keeping needs some attention as attached photos 1+2 show the mold on both the hand shower & along the shower wall, which needs regular bleach use. Brought both to the attention of the female front desk clerk & she said she would have house-keeping clean it "that" evening, but it was the same when we checked out 2 days later. Photos 3+4 show the planters directly next to the front door entrance that were dirty & unclean upon arrival & the same upon departure. Shouldn't such simple items simply be cleaned out DAILY? Door wood trim needs some varnish/paint & don't understand the old, lumpy sofas that are just sitting in the hallways looking like they are waiting for someone to come cart them away. Photos 5+6+7. Breakfast was ample with many good choices & was served in a lovely, bright room. Would stay there again if cruising in/out of Civitavecchia.

Fine enough for a one night stay. Big hot room too hot no fans. . Does have air con but Bed comfy staff we found helpful no complaint wifi useless. Location great and superb view

Just what we needed - didn’t disappoint

We love this hotel as this is our second visit for an overnight stay before a cruise.The hotel dates back to the 1800s and we like the decor. Our room was spacious, very clean with a huge comfortable bed.The staff were very helpful and friendly and sorted us a taxi to the cruise port with ease.Civitavecchia itself is a nice place with a great sea front.
