    A beautiful classic hotel.

    rating29 Dec 2025

We had a two nights' pre-cruise stay at San Giorgio Hotel and frankly we cannot understand the negative reviews - it's like we were not in the same hotel. Actually, we were very satisfied and found no fault. A beautiful classic and classy hotel, with old world charm, warmth, and intimacy, contrary to many icy cold and impersonal modern hotels. The hotel is at the main road between the Train Station and the Cruise Terminal, at the sea front. A beautiful park with palms, nice for strolling, separates it from the sea. You can find plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. It is conveniently located close both to the Train Station and the Cruise Terminal. It is a short walking distance from the Train Station, and as to the Cruise Terminal, young people can even walk from the hotel to the ship if they desire. Elder people can go to the Train Station and get cheap, frequently running buses from there right to their specific cruise ship. From the time we entered we noted the good vibe of a classic Italian hotel, somehow reminding us of the 'Comissario Montalbano' TV series. This feel continued in our rooms. We stayed the first night at a Classic Room and the second at a Deluxe one, so we had a wider view. Both rooms were clean and tastefully decorated, with lights, TV and air-condition working fine, and the beds were comfortable. The spacious Deluxe room is like a loft, on two floors, the upper one (mezzanine) being the bedroom and the lower one a two-floor high lounge with a sofa and the toilette. Booking a Deluxe room is definitely worth it, and there are some with a balcony. Both rooms had bathrooms with full bathtub. The Deluxe room had a gorgeous bathroom with bidet and a very large bathtub. Toiletries and water pressure / temperature were fine.We found personnel and service excellent, helpful and kind.Free, good European style breakfast and free Wi-FI were very welcomed.Overall we had a beautiful stay at San Giorgio Hotel and we clearly intend to stay there again during our next stay in Civitavecchia. If like us you prefer a calm, classy and classic ambience, we absolutely recommend it.

No Refund for My Booking that Hotel Cancelled – Beware of Booking Thia Hotel

    rating29 Dec 2025

I booked a room at this hotel many months in advance of the sailing date of our cruise ship from the Port of Civitavecchia. Two days before our check-in date, the hotel informed me that my booking had been cancelled because they had “overbooked” the room. I suspect the real reason is that they could get more money for the room since it was the night before the cruise ship sailed. I was promised a refund by the hotel. At the time of writing this review, that was three months ago. Despite many emails and phone calls to the hotel I have not received by refund for my booking that THEY cancelled. So, if you have a booking at this hotel, beware that you may not get any refund if they cancel your booking.

    Not good

    rating28 Dec 2025

Booked by travel agent as part of cruise holiday. Had read reviews and thought I was prepared, but I was shocked by the standard of this hotel.Entry to hotel looks nice, but rooms are something else. Room seemed grubby, and lacked anything of a good standard. Felt that you didn’t want to touch anything in there. Bathroom was poor. Complete scam with transfer to the ship, 32 euros each for 10 people in a minibus and a 10 minute ride. No choice but to do this, as too far to walk with cases. Will never set foot in this establishment again.

    Wonderful Outcome

    rating17 Nov 2025

We were scheduled to stay at the Hotel San Giorgio on October 27, 2025, before our cruise the next day, with a hotel shuttle arranged to pick us up at the Rome airport. Due to flight cancellations, we missed our arrival date, our reservation, and the shuttle. I informed the hotel that we would now be arriving on October 28 - the same day as our cruise. Even though we were no longer able to stay at the hotel, hotel staff member, Mette went above and beyond. She arranged an alternate shuttle service to meet us at the airport and take us directly to the port, ensuring we made our cruise on time. This level of care and service was truly unexpected and greatly appreciated. Thank you, Mette, for your outstanding help and kindness. We hope to stay at your beautiful hotel in the future.

Slumming it at a 4 star hotel in Civitavecchia!!!

    rating31 Oct 2025

This is a 4 star hotel on the seafront and has a lovely entrance albeit with stairs. Reception staff are very helpful. We were given room 107 and on entry were immediately disappointed. The carpet is old and faded, the shutters cannot be fixed open but worst of all were the open tread stairs to the bed on the mezzanine floor. The sofa was positively archaic but the bathroom was in a league of its own. There was a small corner bath, WC, bidet and twin basins. Missing was evidence of a shower although there was a shower curtain. Then we discovered that it pulled up from the bath and could only be handheld! The water achieved a degree of warmth but was not hot enough. Shampoos were provided and a very small bar of soap but no other facilities. The bed was uncomfortable and it was hot being on the mezzanine floor even with the windows open. Due to the weather we ate in Bistrot 34 in the hotel and our meals were good. We came down for breakfast at 9.10 and there weren't any clean tables or plates, and no evidence of the availability of any bread. The scrambled egg would have been excellent had it been hot. We would never stay here again.
