    A perfect stay in Florence

    rating15 May 2026

This is a truly beautiful hotel, in the perfect location. I booked a room overlooking the Arno, on the second floor, and it really was a 'room with a view' - even more wonderful than I had imagined. The decoration is colourful and often delightfully quirky, and the whole place very clean, cared-for, and well maintained. Breakfast is served in a lovely room at the top of the building, and the staff are friendly and helpful: order the cappuccino, which comes with cocoa palm trees stencilled on top! There were thoughtful touches everywhere, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if I have the chance to return to Florence. I had, I confess, been a little anxious after booking, on reading some of the more negative reviews on TripAdvisor. There are indeed some stairs to negotiate as you arrive, before getting to the lift to reach reception on the fifth floor. But the great location makes up for any minor inconvenience involved, and I experienced no problems whatsoever with noise. Although so close to the river, I was relieved to find that the windows have screens to shield you from the dreaded zanzare (mosquitos!). You are in the midst of everything, but in a little oasis within the city. There is a charming and comfortable lounge on the top floor - the kind of common space that is too often missing from hotels these days. From there too you can look straight down to the river and the Ponte Vecchio, and the views from the breakfast room are also glorious, across the rooftops to the Palazzo Vecchio. The Hotel Hermitage really is a very special place to stay.

This delightful hotel has a lovely boutique feel. Amazing location with beautiful decor, and a very good restaurant as well. The staff are super helpful and were always ready to assist.

Noise construction: Not informed: Staff lying about the problem. No warning, information, or compensation. Stay away!

    rating21 Jan 2026

Construction noise all day long. Lying staff about “water problem”, no advance warning about the renovation noise. Unhelpful, impotent manager. No offer of discounted room dues to unacceptable daily noise.Booked via Cititravel website. On arrival first night we had a Arno river view room. It was small, cozy and we liked the greeting bottle of wine and cheerful staff. We ate lunch at the hotel’s restaurant and th3n later dinner. Fine first night, Sunday.Monday at breakfast we noticed construction noise from the 3rd floor. Banging hammering, sawing, awful. I asked Alec at reception what was going on, “a water problem.” When will it be fixed? Today. Why wasn’t I informed. Shoulder shrug.Tried to take afternoon nap, impossible. I was assured that this would all be fixed on Monday.Tuesday morning before 9 AM the hammering, drilling, construction noise started again. I asked management for some kind of compensation, a pause, a phone call because Allegra(now the front desk person has no authority), how about two glasses of Prosecco? We accepted. By Wednesday we had had enough of the water problem, which in fact was renovations of not one but two rooms on the third floor. We moved! I contacted Citi Travel and now the charges are in a dispute. Citi Travel by phone was less than helpful as the representative could not do anything, his suggestion was to send an email on the dispute page.We moved to the Hotel Berchielli just down the street. This 4 star hotel was great. At this time of year a bargain at $ 144 USD per night with great breakfast included. The Hotel Hermitage does have an intimate feel and a nice lobby with views over the Arno. However their response to the less than perfect stay and offer of basically nothing, and the manager’s lack of any authority to do anything to compensate us was unacceptable. “You booked through a third party, you have to contact them.”Florence hs lots of hotels. I suggest you look around andchoose somewhere else.A few other negatives: 15 stairs to get up to the tiny elevator to take you up 5 floors to the lobby. The bed mattress is very firm, uncomfortable, and even with a quilt underneath still not great.Breakfast was just ok, especially when compared to the Hotel Berchielli. Not many choices, and not much selection. The rooms are small, the bathroom works well, hot rain shower was very good. Prices for rooms were on the higher side compared to other places.i thought the small hotel would be fun, it was till the Noise started, and the stay took the course it did.

Are you sure you want to choose this hotel?

    rating24 Dec 2025

If you are seeking a place in Florence, Italy, that has wiring made in the 1920s; a view over a courtyard where delivery trucks arrive at 5.30 in the morning; a bathroom that perhaps was designed by Elon Musk; an elevator that is roomy enough for one person and a shoulder bag; and a reception desk on the fifth floor, then The Hermitage is your kind of place. It bills itself as a hotel, but it really is a pensione as a label I saw on its wall. Also it is very difficult to find. I had to ask some very nice Jehovah Witnesses at a nearby corner where it was. Its advantage is its location -- steps from the Uffizi, the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio.

    Could not be bettered

    rating07 Oct 2025

This is an absolutely terrific hotel with brilliant staff.Just down from the Piazza della Signoria and right next to the Rialto Bridge - no there was no noise at all but we were at the back. The beds were great but if you're over 6 foot tall and (dare I say; large widthways) then maybe a tad wee.We had two bottles of water every morning and the breakfast was pretty good in a rather nice breakfast room. There was also a cute little sitting room next door.Thank you folks; we would recommend heapsly.
