    Okay

Stayed here for 2 nights for the football. It's nice and clean. Rooms a bit small. Booked a twin room and ended up with a double bed though. We arrived late and the hotel doesn't have a 24 reception. You have to check in at the sister hotel and was a hassle to go back and sort the issue so we had to make do.

    Good Location

    rating07 Nov 2018

We stayed at the Genesio in Sept 2018 for 2 nights. The location was good, short walk to restaurants, shopping, all the sights etc. The staff were friendly and helpful, always asking if everything was ok. Breakfast was included, you could have one croissant, there was cereal and a little bit of fruit, they did have a note on the wall that if you wanted seconds of anything there would be a charge.I don't want to be mean about this hotel so I'll say this, it is definitely a two star, there is no lift/elevator so you have to walk up 56 stairs, there is no doorman so if you are not physically able to walk these stairs with your luggage I would not recommend it. The room was very basic (there were some water stains on the ceiling and around the window), the A/C was a unit on the wall under the window, very old and took us a few mins to get it working, once it did though it worked fine and kept the room cool. The bathroom..small & dark..you walked in and the sink was right there, you walked up a step to the toilet which was in the shower. On a positive note the water pressure and hot water were fine. Unfortunately, and I feel bad saying this, but I would not stay here again.

    Great hotel!

    rating09 Oct 2018

We stayed at Hotel Genesio from 26th September - 2nd October, and I can't understand why this place has such mixed reviews. I really enjoyed staying here. The hotel is up two flights of stairs. I found the staff to be very friendly: upon arrival, the lady at the desk explained to us where all the tourist sights are. Not all the staff speak a lot of English, despite this, still made us feel welcome! They provide breakfast which includes coffee, croissants, cereal, yogurts and fruit. The room was nicely sized - my only complaints would be that sometimes it smelt of smoke and you can hear the corridor, but most evenings I was so exhausted, I went straight to sleep anyway. The bathroom is fairly small, but it didn't bother me. I don't think I could have found anywhere better - it's about an 8 minute walk to the train station, and roughly 10 minutes to the Duomo. I would really recommend staying here! Laura P, Responsabile reception at Hotel Genesi, responded to this review very kind host, thank you for having stayed in our hotel and for the nice review.  He appreciated our work and will always be welcome for us  a kiss from Florence

    rating29 Sept 2018

The hotel is quick and easy to find from the train station, and also minutes from the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet as was the bathroom. The breakfast was the typical continental fare and the coffee was excellent, and we found the staff to be friendly.

Very rude front desk staff and the building smells

    rating01 Sept 2018

I booked this hotel via another travel site and filtered all my travel requests by 'facilities for disabled guests', and for some reason, this hotel came up. It doesn't have facilities for disabled guests and their listing now says so, although it didn't at the time, so I hope other potential guests will not be caught out like I was. I made a special request on my booking for a ground floor room or room with lift access, which the hotel never respinded to until - coincidentally - it was too late to cancel for free. I arrived with my disabled parents to find the I had to hike up 3 floors to get to the recption, which isn't a problem for me, but very much was a problem for my mother in particular. There is a lift, but it has a hand-written sign on it which I assume says that the lift is out of order. I went into the reception desk where a very unhappy looking man was serving 2 customers, so I stood back until he beckoned me forward within seconds even though it didn't look like the other customers were done. I asked him to arrange for the lift and he angrily shook his head at me and said something in Italian. I mentioned that the booking stated that there were facilities for disabled guests to which he angrily shook his head, raised his voice again speaking in Italian. I asked him if he'd mind please helping me in English and again, he shook his head. So the listing mentions that 4 languages are spoken, one being English, and he refused to help me in a language that is listed as being spoken. After going back and forth with the incredibly rude representative of the hotel over email, I wasn't going to get anywhere by attempting to have a reasonable conversation with them, so I had to put this one down to experience. Overall impressions, the rude staff notwithstanding, were terrible anyway. The stairwell is very dark and really smelly, the reception area is not very clean and I just felt very unsafe. If the reception staff had been friendly, it might have gone a little way to improving the overall experience, despite the fact that it didn't meet with my expectations from the listing. The only good thing I can say is that the location isn't bad. A cab into the centre costs around €14 with a tip. Laura P, Proprietario at Hotel Genesi, responded to this review Dearest  Mrs Lindsay Ringshe may have forgotten to say that upon arrival at the hotel she went to the reception and without waiting for other guests to finish their check-in, she approached the counter, saying in a very rude way that the elevator was required. As you well know, our hotel does not have the use of an elevator, and I, Lorenzo the owner, who was right behind the reception at the time, told Mrs. We did not use the elevator and was waiting for her turn, then I would have seen how I can help you premise that the morning of the day of check-in I had, as per regulation I can do, made the transaction of the amount probably the guest did not quite understand what I had told her and she went off in a rage. when I finished the check-in of the other two guests I tried to go down the 2 flights of stairs to see if the lady was still in front of the door, but it was gone. back in the reception I found the email cancellation of the guest, but it was too late because it was out of 5 days by regulation. then he started sending me threatening e-mails that you can read in your reservation, to which I replied, but then I told her that she had to stop threatening the hotel. we are on search engines since 2006, recently we have also had the pleasure of having a visit to our booking consultant in Florence Natascia, who can confirm that our 2-star hotel can be a bit vintage but it is certainly not smelly or dirty let alone Lorenzo Corsi, the owner would never dream of hurting a client. the lady has perhaps wrong to book, having, says the mother invalid, but that I have not seen, if had requested accessibility for the disabled or lift in the requests, our hotel would not, never appeared because we do not have the ability to accommodate disabled people .we also responded to his request for a lift that the hotel did not have. however, since the hotel has a video surveillance circuit you can easily see the lady's entry, and her rude way of imposing herself, the only fault that I can attribute is not to speak English very well, but I told the lady if she could kindly wait for her turn. I am very sorry and disappointed for this inconvenience, because in the limit of our possibilities we always try to help the client, maybe I could direct it to another structure with elevator, but did not give me any chance, she left and canceled the booking.unfortunately, very often people think that the whole world revolves around them, she has made a wrong booking and is blaming me for this, if he waited a moment I could solve his problem Lorenzo Corsiowner
