    Near the train station but VERY loud. We got a room that was overlooking the square. The windows were closed but it seemed that people in the square outside were standing outside our window. It was a good price for price but we had to put up with a lot of noise all night.

    I had the misfortune of being booked into this "hotel" in 2019. It was booked (by an incompetent Australian travel company) for two single beds so when my son and I turned up, there was only a double bed. I raised this issue with reception and was told nothing could be done until the following day. The room was dark, the bathroom was appallingly basic and lift access was via stairs. I have no idea why anyone would opt to book at this 1-star tip. The location was great, right in the Santa Maria Novella piazza however the "hotel" was rubbish.

    Stayed 3 nights in March 2024, the only plus was location near to the train station. The Room was worn out, dark and dingy, Dirty bathroom, no water in the room. Lot of noise from cafes downstairs!!! Simply not worth it , stay somewhere else to enjoy your Florence experience

    The Hotel Universo -- a Real Find in Florence!

    The Hotel Universo has 2 first class advantages and both are Location, Location! First, it's an easy stroll from the Florence Santa Maria Novella Station. We were traveling from Rome and loved how convenient it was to avoid ground transportation once we arrived in Florence. Second, the hotel entrance faces the lovely Santa Maria Novella square and church. We loved this location. Just stepping outside into the square brought you immediate access to charming outdoor cafes and boutiques. The hotel is only a 3-star property, with minimal amenities -- no room service for example. However, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. A real find in Florence!

    We visited this hotel during the last day of our fantastic Tuscany trip. Over all first impression was that the room was ok. But then I got an electric shock when I tried to plug in my iPhone charger. Two bare metal pieces were sticking out of the socket. See picture. When I pointed this out at the front desk they just gave me an email address. No understanding that high voltage is potentially life threatening. Sent them an email with the complaint including pictures but no answer whatsoever.
