    Worst hotel experience ever!

    rating01 Jun 2023

Review of Hotel Firenze 2000 which also goes by Youth Hotel Firenze 2000. WARNING! Do not go to this “hotel”! I travel around the world and stay in hotels of various star ratings but I have never stayed in a hotel as bad as this one. Where shall I begin? It is a 2-star hotel, so my expectations were not high. I wanted clean and safe. To begin with, I was required to wire transfer from the bank the entire amount of the hotel stay, including the taxes. I reserved 7 rooms for 12 people. The cost was the same as the 4-star hotels, but I couldn’t get 7 rooms. Then, as I requested that 6 of the rooms have twin beds instead of one larger one, I was charged an extra $50 per night, per room. That was a total of $600 for 2 nights. (I was charged in Euros but it was similar to dollars.) When we arrived, we saw that all of the beds in all of the rooms were twin beds. Some were pushed together to make a larger bed. When I complained, I was told that some of the rooms were upgraded. The upgrade was 2 twin beds pushed together and a cot as the second bed. If you are required to stay at this hotel, do not pay extra for twin beds. It is all they have! I asked for the $600 back because they were all twin beds but was told no. By the way, they were all hard as a rock and looked like they were from the 1960s child’s bedroom and well worn. The tile floors looked stained with dirt. One of the rooms had a shower that had black mold around the bottom edges of the shower. The people in that room thought it was safer to just not shower. When I brought it to the attention of Aldo, who I believe is the manager, he said it is the silicone. I told him that silicone is not black and that it is mold. He claimed to not understand what I was saying. The mold was around the whole bottom perimeter of the shower. His response is that this is the best 2-star hotel. Nope! We proceeded to the next room where the toilet would not properly flush. He took the lid of the tank off and said it is broke and just take the tank lid off to flush. I told his that this was unacceptable but was told there was nothing he could do. Another incident occurred in the middle of the night. There was a room in the hotel with a crying child and a barking dog, apparently without an adult. I didn’t find out about this until the next day from the people in that hallway who were kept up for hours. I don’t know why the hotel staff didn’t contact the police and let this persist for hours but it ruined the next day for many people because they were exhausted. There is not an elevator so be aware that you will have to carry your luggage up the stairs. Some rooms have no windows. When asked twice to call taxis, each time it was a challenge. I don’t know if it was the system they use but I didn’t have any trouble in any other areas. I asked for two large taxis about 1 hour before we needed them but they didn’t call them until we needed to leave and then proceeded to tell me it was the taxi company’s fault. We had to run (12 of us with luggage) to catch our train. I asked the hotel manager for compensation, thinking I could buy a nice dinner for the group to make them forget about the horrible experience but he just continued to defend this disgusting place. The moral of the story, do not go to this hotel! In retrospect, I should have left Florence and went somewhere else in Italy. This hotel put a dark cloud on an otherwise great 2-week trip.

    Fantastic Staff and Service!!

    rating12 Sept 2019

I had a great stay here. The staff went out of their way to help you have a great stay and time in Florence. I had trouble opening my room door a few times and eveytime someone helped me right away and were very kind. The room has everything you need and is clean. The location is close enough to the city center yet still quiet. Highly recommend!

    A Great Value in Firenze!

    rating11 Aug 2019

I stayed at Hotel Firenze 2000 while visiting Florence during college, back when it was still a hostel. I really enjoyed my stay then, and I enjoyed my second stay with them this summer. I arrived to Florence in mid-July and was staying at an apartment near the Duomo that was just not for me (too hot with no AC, and way too touristy). So I decided to return to HF2000, and was not disappointed. The staff was as friendly and helpful as I remembered and the accommodations were even better since the ‘upgrade’ to a hotel. The hotel is ‘off the beaten’ path, which means it’s nice and tranquil, but still easy to access the city center on foot or by bus. It’s very close to some wonderful neighborhoods that are a bit more local and have fantastic restaurants. The hotel still has some vestiges of its hostel days like laundry available on site (!), which was great for me since I was staying for 3 weeks. The bar and outdoor courtyard are also very nice to have and the breakfast is nice. Good continental offerings—typically a pastry fruits cereal, yogurt etc. And of course coffees. The rooms are plain and simple (if you need a 5 start hotel when you are on vacation it would not be the right fit for you) but they are very comfortable and they keep everything very clean. They also have lovely memory foam pillows, which is an amazing find in Italy—often the pillows are hard and flat at hotels here. I would recommend without hesitation, particularly because of the wonderful staff.

A little gem of a place!

    rating01 Aug 2018

I would definitely stay here again. The staff were so helpful! Whether it be for directions, restaurant recommendations or help with the washing machine! Good location, about 20/25 min walk into the centre. Lovely restaurants near by & also a supermarket which came in handy! They also have a lovely little patio area where you can sit and enjoy & glass of wine or prosecco & chat to other guests/staff if you wish. The room was cleaned daily & new clean towels. 100% recommend!

    What a joy!

    rating27 Jul 2018

Our first time in a budget hotel, and what a joy! This team could write a book on hospitality. Caring, considerate and incredibly helpful to the slightly lost, certainly beleaguered on arrival. The hotel is spotlessly clean - housekeeping every day, regular fresh towels, more pillows on request and a very decent bed. Fab air con.About 25 minute walk into the city walking slowly (or a short taxi cab ride approx €10) and good amenities close by with a plentiful choice of decent restaurants, an ATM and a good supermarket. A very decent choice of continental breakfast (ham, cheese, croissants, yoghurt, cereal) including good coffee or English tea.Has washing machine (€5 token) and clothes horse as well as communal fridge/freezer.Well stocked bar with ice cold water/beer/fruit juices sold at very reasonable prices.Limited mobility access throughout we noticed.Bus stop (route 12) just outside hotel which is handy and we appreciated the tips and advice on sightseeing ideas given e.g. "this is a hidden treasure".Yes, we highly recommend this lovely hotel and will return as soon as we can.
