  Beware the offer of 'Free Upgrade'

  On arrival we were offered a free upgrade as we were staying for 5 nights. First impressions of the 'upgrade' room were underwhelming. Larger yes, with a bath and extra small bed but appeared quite dark. This was the family room. The safety deposit box didn't work. We checked the batteries and they were leaking. The bedside lights were not working and one of them was dangling by the exposed leads. We went to reception and the disappointing part was that there was no apology. A new set of batteries was offered and we were told an electrician would come to repair the lights.Later that day we were told that since it was a weekend the lights could not be repaired until next day so we were now offered our originally booked room instead. This was a smaller room but so much nicer. Two windows facing the street instead of the one window in the family room and a clean saftey deposit box which worked and fully functioning lights.The rest of our stay was fine but that episode left a bad taste. Note to management re how you should have handled the situation - First of all apologise for what happened. Secondly, offer something to the custotmer, just a token would be appreciated.Note to customer - Beware the Free Upgrade. Ask to see the rooom first.   Great location, close to the most beautiful areas, clean room with a fantastic view. Absolutely lovely reception staff, I forgot my UK dapter at home and the lad in reception found one for me.   To Management at Best Western Metropoli,I graduated with a degree in management and have over 20 years of experience leading individuals in the corporate field. With all of my experience, I have learned that the greatest asset to any organization or business is good, hard working, reliable, and passionate employees. It was extremely refreshing to see a full team of incredible individuals at Best Western Metropoli. Out of all my travels throughout the world for business or pleasure, I have never felt such a feeling of comfort and kindness from hotel staff.Unfortunately, I have been fighting a rare, extremely painful condition for almost 13 years with little to no hope. I was recently approved for a treatment only available here in Genoa, Italy. I was flooded with excitement and with many fears. Especially, the treatment in a foreign country, not knowing the language, how to navigate throughout the city, the side effects of the treatment and so on.The staff at Best Western Metropoli made me feel so comfortable, they were all very knowledgeable, at check in they provided a map with all the key things to see in Genoa, provided a plethora of museum and fun attraction pamphlets, where to find the essentials like stores, what restaurants to try, taxi and nearby bus locations. Each member treated me with kindness and made me feel well cared for to the point many of my fears quickly dissipated and I felt at home. The service was well beyond my expectations and the normal call of duty I ever experienced at a hotel. At times, I was unable to leave the hotel room for many days at a time due to pain, to my surprise, the staff called and checked on me. I can assure you that the team here at Best Western Metropoli is special, rare, and by far Best Western’s greatest asset. It was not the size of the rooms, not the weird decorations, the power of the AC in the heat of the summer, the furniture, it was the staff that made my journey here so incredibly special. My stay here at the hotel was about six weeks, plenty of time to understand that this treatment was ongoing and not just to me, but all guests. Because the staff makes you feel like family, their kindness, the passion for what they do, the harmony between each other, so many other positive aspects of their actions, I only have positive to say and able to overlook any negative. I also find the hotel location very convenient to all things in old town Genoa. For these reasons, I highly recommend Best Western Metropoli.I appreciate you all! You will be missed!   Perfect Location with Healthy Breakfast Options

  I had an excellent stay at this hotel. The location is perfect, right in the centre with everything nearby. The rooms are very big and spacious, and the bathrooms are also large and comfortable. Breakfast was very good, with an excellent choice and plenty of healthy options available. It also offers very good value. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.
