This is NOT a 4* Hotel!

    rating15 Aug 2025

The external appearance of the hotel is stunning, its location is fantastic and it has off road parking and a cute little roof top swimming pool albeit NO pool towels. This sadly is terrible value for money, it charges a premium but, whilst some rooms have been refurbished many are very old and super small they’re uncomfortable. Breakfast was made as cheaply as possible, coffee machine is coffee powder not beans, all served in large ikea mugs not even an espresso cup. My 9 year old son loves his Nutella and whilst the bowl says Nutella it’s a cheap replacement. No chillers for the yoghurt so they’re warm as they use a paper tipped fan. Water in the rooms is expensive yet no signs of being charged. Many 3 stars are of better value for money. The management need to give back some value instead of trying to boost profit but cutting every cost possible. You urgently need to address your model, these comments are not new and have been repeated in previous years. Grande Albergo, Direttore generale at Grande Albergo, responded to this review Grazie per la recensione.A volte è sufficiente chiedere.

    Pricing doesn’t match the standard

    rating08 Jul 2025

Our recent stay at Grand Albergo in Sestri Levante was a mixed bag — undeniably charming in some areas but left us wondering if the premium price tag truly reflects the value.⸻✅ The Positives1. Prime Beachfront LocationThe absolute highlight of the hotel is its location. Step out , cross the quiet road and you’re on the beach. 2. Excellent BreakfastThe breakfast buffet was generous and well-curated — fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, eggs, and Italian specialties. Something for everyone, even our picky 6-year-old. Coffee was ok seeing as it came from a machine. 3. Warm and Helpful StaffStaff were welcoming4. Rooftop Pool Was a Hit With the kids. It’s not huge, but the panoramic views more than made up for that. The kids adored it, and it was a great spot to relax in the afternoons after beach time.⚠️ The Negatives1. Rooms Don’t Match the PriceThis was our biggest disappointment. While clean and functional, the room felt dated — tired furniture, small bathrooms, and limited amenities for a hotel in this price bracket. For the nightly rate, we expected more in terms of style, comfort, and modernity.2. Unexpected Extras Add UpSome costs felt excessive: • Sun beds on the beach (right in front of the hotel) were €50 each. For a family of five, that’s €250/day • Pool towels came with a €5 rental charge per towel. This felt petty for a 4-star establishment. • Parking was €25/day, which, while not unheard of in this region, still felt steep given the overall costs.💡 Final ThoughtsWould we return? Probably not — at least not at the current pricing. The Grand Albergo has a lot going for it: beautiful location, friendly atmosphere, and great amenities for kids. But when the room doesn’t live up to the cost, and when every little extra starts to feel like a surcharge, you begin to wonder if your money could stretch further elsewhere. For families looking for a beachside stay with charm, it may still appeal — but value-seekers might find better options Grande Albergo, Direttore generale at Grande Albergo, responded to this review Thanks for the review,we'll take it into account for future improvements. We'd like to point out that the beach fee, even though it's not part of the hotel's amenities, is €50 per day, umbrella and 2 sunbeds, not €250! Also, the reservation you made was for 4 people, but you ended up with 5 of you. Rooms have a maximum capacity of 4 people. Thanks anyway, see you next time.Andrea Mazza - Management

    Highly recommend

A very gracious and comfortable hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful. Recommend the excellent restaurant. Especially liked the effort with all the indoor plants. Great location for touring Genova & Cinque Terra or just local walks.

Old Dame in need of attention

    rating16 Sept 2024

Once she must have been magnificent. She looks shabby and tired now. Almost everything beyond the lovely entrance lobby needs updating and cleaning up. Carpets worn and stained, Air con noisy and malfunctioning. The location is splendid as is the entrance and the staff are friendly and efficient. Breakfast is disappointing. Plastic cups for water and juice. More plastic for the tiny honey sachets. Dull pastries and a limit to one cup of coffee only. A downscale experience in an upscale building. Grande Albergo, Direttore generale at Grande Albergo, responded to this review Dear guest, thank you for your review. We are cyclically renovating the rooms and the public areas. It is possible that a stain on the carpet, present only in the corridors (not in the rooms) we have immediately a stain that we have not been able to eliminate. We do not normally have plastic cups at breakfast, however we are sorry, we will try to improve this aspect. The Manager

Adequate accommodation in a dated hotel

    rating26 Jun 2024

The word that kept occurring to me about this hotel is "adequate". By that I mean that it provided us with what we wanted but without any flair at all. The reception staff were polite but distant and the hotel was clean and functional but somewhat dated. Our room was perfect, with a balcony and side sea view, and the staff at breakfast were wonderful, probably the best asset of the hotel. However, the dinner menu at the restaurant was limited and not very adventurous. We ate there just once.I had two experiences that disappointed and set the tone for our stay. On the night we arrived, after a somewhat unappetising meal, I ordered a beer at the bar and was told to sit and it would be brought to me. When the waiter came, I gave him €10 and waited for him to return with some change. He never arrived. A very expensive beer. Needless to say, I never went to the bar again. Later in the stay, we decided we would like to have a swim in the rooftop pool. We were informed that there was a €5 charge to hire a towel. This may be common practice in Italy, but I have never found it to be the case in any other hotel I have ever stayed in. I declined, bought a cheap towel in a nearby shop and enjoyed my swim.It may be common practice in Italy to charge for access to the beach, but I had hoped there might be a reduction or some other concession for hotel guests. Again, another facility we never tried, preferring instead to visit beaches with no charge.Overall, as already mentioned, I found the hotel to be adequate, without being wonderful. I'm not sure it deserves all 4 of its stars.
