  Functional hotel with exceptional and caring staff

  I stayed at the Holiday Inn Genoa City for one night, and while the hotel itself is quite functional, the service truly stood out.The rooms are functional and causy, and the location is not central - it felt a bit deserted in the evening. However, we arrived very late (around 10 PM) after being stuck for hours in a massive traffic jam in a Genoa tunnel. We hadn't eaten since lunch and were exhausted.Even though it was late, the restaurant staff kindly stayed open just for us so we could have a meal. This level of hospitality was deeply appreciated after a stressful journey. It’s a reliable choice for a short stopover, especially thanks to the wonderful and accommodating team.   Holiday Inn – Genoa City, ItalyDate of stay: 17–18 February 2026Room: 712 – 1 Queen Standard (Sofa Bed)As a loyal IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) guest for over 20 years—historically 70–100 nights per year (now around 30–40 post-Covid)—I feel I know the brand well. This stay at Holiday Inn Genoa City was very much in line with the standards I’ve come to expect.Area / LocationThe hotel is very well placed, just a short walk from the Ferry & Cruise Terminal and close to Dinegro Metro Station, which makes it easy to get to Principe, Brignole, and the city centre.Arrival & Check-In• The hotel was easy to find using sat nav and postcode, making for a smooth journey.• Check-in was quick and welcoming. Ester on the front desk made an excellent first impression — genuinely friendly and a pleasure to chat with.• As a Priority Club Diamond Elite member, I was acknowledged and offered the choice of bonus points, a free drink, or a free breakfast, which was much appreciated.• I was also upgraded to a king room with its own balcony, which was a lovely touch.Room & Cleanliness• The room was very clean, well maintained, and exactly what I’d expect from Holiday Inn (see photos).Dining Experience• Evening meal: I didn’t dine at the hotel on this occasion, as I chose to eat in the city centre.• Breakfast: A good mix of continental and cooked options — and a pleasant surprise to see bacon and beans, which aren’t always available at continental European Holiday Inns.Check-Out• Check-out was smooth and efficient, with professional staff.OverallComfortable, clean, and well run, with a great reception team.
