My slice of heaven up the mountain

    rating20 Jun 2025

I stayed in one of the apartment style rooms. Check in and check out was smooth and pleasant. I love the staff here. I also loved my unit. It was a little dated but simple, bright, clean and spacious. I made good use of the terrace in the mornings and evenings. There are views for days up there, as well as a lot of nature. I was serenaded by an assortment of birds (use a birding app, you will be surprised by the variety), occasional dog barks, goats, the parrots down the hill, a distant rooster and of course the glorious church bells. The pool is up a long set of steps but so worth the climb. It was open 7-7 every day. It was not large, but was clean and refreshing after a long day of exploring. It was banked by flowers and trees brimming with lemons and yet again, beautiful views in every direction. There was never more than 4 or 5 people, or maybe I just lucked out. There was a lovely staff member up there too that would bring out loungers when you arrived and a small bar that I never tried. I also did not partake in the breakfast offered for €7 but felt it was very good value. I had two meals at the hotel restaurant, both good but not great, but with that view, I was pleased. As with many parts of Italy, this island is challenging for anyone with mobility issues. There are steep paths, roads and stairs everywhere. Great exercise though, to help balance out all the food and drink. My calves were screaming after a couple of days. Take that steep, ancient pathway/steps near to the property at your own risk. It felt dangerous and was hardly a shortcut. I was there without a car but there was a bus stop up the road which I used frequently. In the immediate area known as Campagnano, there is a church, a couple of restaurants, another small hotel, a little tobacconist shop for bus tickets etc, a cafe and a decent little supermarket should you not want to make that long trek down to town. I wondered if I had made a mistake booking there, but came to realize that the serenity and isolation of the location was exactly what I needed. I also still managed to get out and about around the island and loved coming back to my “home”.Small improvements? The aircon didn’t seem to do much. A capsule style coffee machine would have been welcome. Also a full length mirror, and maybe a streaming service or one English Channel for nights in.

Lovely hotel with the best views!

    rating21 Jul 2024

Had a great stay here in July for 5 nights with my partner. Room was quite basic but had everything we needed and a balcony with a clothes line to dry beach towels/ swimwear. Pool area was a nice place to relax during the day & great views overlooking the castle and port. Breakfast served in the restaurant and offered a good selection of pastries, bread, meats & fruit as well as a coffee. Dined in the restaurant a couple of times and the food was delicious - freshly made pasta and the pizzas (only served in the evening) were amazing! Beautiful views over the bay and a great place to watch the sunset. Good location with a bus stop less than 5 minutes away with regular buses to the port & tickets sold at reception. Walked down to the castle one day which took about 40 minutes downhill, quite a steep walk back in the heat so would recommend bus/ taxi if it’s hot! Staff were all really lovely and happy to help - would highly recommend staying here!

A good hotel with amazing views

    rating21 Jul 2023

The hotel has amazing views and the personnel is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel entrance is around the corner and you need to park your car (if you have one) on the side street where there is a free parking space. The room was clean and had a very nice terrace with amazing views to Porto. The hotel has a nice pool at the top with sun beads and shades.Breakfast was really good, again with amazing views from the restaurant. The only letdown for us were the pillows and the private party held that night just below us with really loud music, which woke all of us up for hours.
