A stunning hotel in a quaint location with friendly staff and clean facilities. Bella!

    rating26 Aug 2025

Hotel Della Baia sits on the corner of Le Grazie, a small quintessentially Italian fishing / boating town near Porto Venere. While quiet from the outside, the charm exuded from the inside really did exceed most of our expectations. While not without its faults, we had a lovely stay at Hotel Della Baia, and would recommend for those happy for a quiet few days.Staff:The staff greeted us immediately with a smile. Very happy to help, conversational and (while we tried our best with Italian) spoke very good English which was a rarity in Le Grazie. We turned up fairly early prior to check in. They let us leave our luggage at the hotel while we went for a walk, and they were happy to let us use the pool facilities while waiting. When we came back, our luggage had been taken to our room for us so that we could have an early check in. It was a lovely surprise. However, another surprise was the fire alarm sounding at 7:30 am for about 15 minutes. We left the hotel and waited outside, but were given no guidance. There wasn’t an apology, or even a mention of it ever again. This meant that we were very tired for the rest of the day. It was bizarre and didn’t match the standards that the rest of the trip set. It feels a shame to finish on a poor note because the staff were genuinely lovely, so I’ll note that they do make a lovely cup of coffee!Location:Le Grazie is a quaint Italian town. Being coastal, there was lots of fishing happening, and the food selections matched this. The restaurant attached the hotel served exclusively fish, and so while we did struggle, this is more down to taste. If you’d like to go for a walk nearby you can, the views are stunning and the coast is gorgeous. We took the train from Pisa to La Spezia, then took a bus from La Spezia to Le Grazie, and had a short walk. It was nice and easy. It’s very quiet so don’t expect a million things to do but if you want peace then it is the right place for you.Facilities:I’ve touched on the restaurant already but the breakfast was very good. A selection of pastries, some meats and cheese, yoghurt with granola and fruit, and you’re welcomed with a coffee that was delicious. We weren’t overly keen on the dinner, but that was more of our taste on fish than anything. Our room was spacious - we would definitely recommend a sea view room. The shower was slightly small but we have no complaints on the room, it was also very clean. The pool area was virtually empty of people and very spacious. Plenty of sunbeds to go around and at no point did we struggle. The life guard doubled as bar staff, and while ‘bar’ is a stretch, they were always there ready to grab a drink, sandwich ice cream etc from inside. The pool itself, however, was absolutely glacial. It actively made us avoid getting into the pool, which does affect the holiday. This is disappointing as the views really are stunning. Another general comment, and obviously not the hotels fault, but bring bug spray as the gnats are very persistent. Overall:A fantastic hotel with a few small issues which stopped it being absolutely perfect. We really did enjoy our stay and would recommend, especially to couples who are looking for a space to relax antonino sgarlata, Direttore generale at Hotel Della Baia, responded to this review Thank you for providing such a detailed and thoughtful account of your stay. It is truly rewarding to hear that the charm of our hotel and the authenticity of Le Grazie exceeded your expectations. We are delighted that you enjoyed the sea-view room and that our team, with their English skills and a good cup of coffee, made you feel welcome from the very beginning. However, as a Director, I believe in transparency. Here is my perspective on the aspects that prevented your stay from being perfect:The fire alarm incidentI wish to offer my sincerest apologies for what happened at 7:30 in the morning. You described it as a bizarre episode, and I completely agree with you. While safety protocols are non-negotiable, the lack of immediate communication and an apology is not the standard we pride ourselves on. It appears we were so focused on resolving the technical fault that we forgot the most important part: speaking to our guests. I have already discussed this with the team to ensure that, should such a wake-up call ever occur again, it will be followed by clear guidance and a very large, restorative espresso. The glacial pool experienceOur pool certainly earned its reputation for being refreshing during your visit. Being located so close to the sea and the hills, the water can indeed remain quite brisk early in the season. While we cannot always negotiate with nature to warm it up faster, we are evaluating solutions to make the transition from the sunbed to the water a little less like a polar plunge.Notes on cuisine and natureYou hit the nail on the head: Le Grazie lives and breathes the sea. Our restaurant celebrates this heritage, but we always have alternative meat or vegetarian options available for those not ready for a strictly pescatarian diet. Regarding the insects, the local gnats are unfortunately very persistent tourists. We do our best with treatments, but bug spray remains the most effective shield for enjoying the sunset on the coast. We are so glad you left your heart here in the bay. We would be honored to welcome you back, ideally for a stay made of 100% relaxation and 0% fire alarms.Kind regards,The Management

    Lovely Traditional Hotel

    rating04 Sept 2024

This hotel is amazing. It's location is on the shore of the beautiful bay or Le Grazie overlooking all the boats and the village and mountains beyond. The checkin was welcoming and straightforward. The staff are pleasant and professinonal. The room, though small, had a lovely private ground floor terrace with furniture, overlooking the sea, which is only across the road. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom, again small, but had everything required. There was a TV, Tea/Coffee and a fridge. The air con was very effective. Breakfast, which is served in the restaurant, is waiter service and consisted of plenty of fruit, cakes, pastries, ham/chese and delicious coffees made by an excellent Barista. In the evenings dinner is served by the sea, across the road. Outside, the pool is excellent and is of a good size with an ambient temperature. The hotel was busy, so sun loungers were in short supply. Much of the time, there is a pool attendant/life guard in attendance. You can walk around the bay to shops and restaurants. There is no private parking available, so you park on the road and also a disused football pitch. Download the EasyPark app to pay €11.50 for 72 hours parking. We will definately revisit this hotel in the future. Thank you and well done to all staff. antonino sgarlata, Direttore generale at Hotel Della Baia, responded to this review Thank you so much for this amazing review. Wow, what a wonderful stay!

    rating17 Aug 2024

My husband, daughter and I have spent a long weekend here and it has been absolutely fantastic from start to finish. Well technically, we haven’t left yet but I wanted to write this review whilst I can! We wanted to stay somewhere that was traditionally Italian. Where do we start? Firstly, let’s start with check in, we were greeted by two lovely ladies and to our surprise we could check in early as our room was ready, a welcomed benefit as our daughter was due her nap! The room: we personally thought it was lovely, a very traditional Italian room with a fantastic balcony over looking Le Grazie, the shower was brilliant and so powerful! The staff: wonderful! They couldn’t do enough for you, from Giovanni being the most fantastic waiter so professional yet welcoming. A special mention to the twins - Gloria and Laura who worked tirelessly and who really impressed us with their English. The food: oh. My. Word!!!! - DELICIOUS!!!! We have eaten at a variety of establishments and this is up there - you have to try for yourself!! The pool was so peaceful and tranquil and hardly ever busy. The area: Le Grazie is a quiet place which was perfect for us we enjoyed walking round in the morning. For anyone wanting an abundance of eateries and bars this may not be the place for you, however, Portoverne is a short bus ride away and the hotel sell the tickets for this (€2 each way)Most importantly the thing we won’t forget about Hotel della Baia are the little details (which mean the most):- My husband is gluten free and at every moment the effort was made to accommodate this from making tweaks to the menus to every morning coming down and there is a basket full of gluten free options on our table. - To always smiling and making an effort with our little girl - the highchair always being ready or colouring being placed on the table - With my bread I like to have olive oil and balsamic and the staff always remembered and had this on our table Overall, regardless if you are a family or not you need to visit Hotel della Baia! Thank you all! antonino sgarlata, Direttore generale at Hotel Della Baia, responded to this review Dear Caroline thank you so much for this amazing review. We are very glad that your stay has been great and we are gratefull to read your special words about our work and our services. We always try to do our best so we are so proud if everything is perfect for our guest.Hoping see you again, best regards. The Managment

Best hotel in the area, beautiful views and such friendly staff

    rating24 Jul 2024

Our third stay at this hotel and as ever we leave feeling relaxed and well looked after. This hotel has the most beautiful views of any we have stayed in. It is picture perfect Italy. Rooms are basic but spotlessly cleaned every day, in fact the whole place is very well maintained. The pool area is large but never gets busy, some days we had it to ourselves for mornings (and this is July!). Le Grazie has a few nice bars and restaurants but hop on the public bus and 5 minutes away is Portovenere with all its holiday bustle, superyachts and gateway to the Cinque Terre. We love the fact it is so close yet we can retreat from the crowds to this lovely art hotel haven at the end of the evening. Boat hire from Boatable excellent also to get out on the water. For a 3 star hotel with very competitive prices this is a real gem. antonino sgarlata, Direttore generale at Hotel Della Baia, responded to this review Dear Philippa thank you so much for this amazing review. We are very glad that your stay has been great and we are gratefull to read your special words about our work and our services. We always try to do our best so we are so proud if everything is perfect for our guest.Hoping see you again, best regards. The Managment
