The hotel is gorgeous! Beautiful location right on the water, next to the ferry and walking distance to restaurants. The breakfast buffet was amazing and we enjoyed the cocktail hour. We loved taking the ferry to Cinque Terre, but also loved leaving the crowds of Cinque Terre and coming back to the beautiful village of Portovenere. The staff was extremely helpful and provided a lot of great information.

The historical building is beautiful, and its location spectacular. It was easy to move around on foot, by boat or car. Dinner was excellent and the complimentary breakfast was amazing.

ENGLISH: We had a wonderful family weekend at the Grand Hotel Porto Venere. The location is unbeatable, with stunning views of Porto Venere and Palmaria Island from our rooms. It’s the perfect base to visit the Cinque Terre by boat, making day trips incredibly convenient and scenic. We stayed in two rooms: one with a fantastic terrace and a corner suite with breathtaking, multi-angled views. The staff were incredibly warm and genuinely welcoming, making us feel like family from check-in to checkout. Dining at the hotel was very good with a great bar offering. Giovanni the head barman is very talented.Overall, a flawless blend of location, views, hospitality, and cuisine. Highly recommended for families seeking a luxurious, memorable escape. We can’t wait to return. Antonio Polesel, Direttore generale at Grand Hotel Portovenere, responded to this review Estimada T6656YIluc_am,¡Muchísimas gracias por compartir su maravillosa experiencia con nosotros!

A Truly Unforgettable Stay in One of Italy’s Most Unique Locations

    rating18 Oct 2025

From the moment we arrived at the Grand Hotel Portovenere, we were struck by the warm welcome and impeccable attention to detail shown by the reception team. Every aspect of our check-in was smooth, thoughtful, and personalized—setting the tone for what turned out to be a flawless stay. The hotel itself is stunning, blending modern elegance with historic charm, and perfectly positioned to take in the breathtaking beauty of Portovenere. Waking up to panoramic views of the sea and the colorful harbor is an experience we won’t soon forget. This town is truly a hidden gem—peaceful yet full of character, with a magical atmosphere you won’t find anywhere else in Italy. The restaurant, Palmaria, deserves special praise. Every dish we tried was refined, fresh, and beautifully presented, with local ingredients shining through. Dining on the terrace, with the sea breeze and views of the island of Palmaria, was nothing short of spectacular. This hotel doesn’t just offer a place to sleep—it offers a complete experience, where every detail is curated to make your stay extraordinary. We left with memories we’ll treasure for years and can’t wait to return.Highly recommended without hesitation! Stay in Portovenere

    rating07 Oct 2025

Horrible experience in Portovenere. We were given the worst room in the hotel. We paid for an executive room with a balcony/terrace and it had neither. Our room was cramped and small and we had to go down a set of stairs on the 4th floor to get to our room. Upon arrival the staff insisted that we had to leave some of our luggage in storage because they did not fit in our room. They also insisted that we upgrade to a suite because our luggage would not fit at an additional cost of $E130 per day. I don’t know if it was worth to book online since we had no one to complain too. It was a hour drive to Rio Maggiore from the hotel. We would have been better off staying in Portofino and driving to Monterosso instead. Don’t order the Caesar salad at the restaurant as they used iceberg lettuce past its prime. It was almost white in color. Beware that the daily whole fish is priced per kilo and not a fixed price. We paid $E80 for the fish that I shared with my friend. Antonio Polesel, Direttore generale at Grand Hotel Portovenere, responded to this review Dear emgguerracpa,I am very very sorry to read your review about the recent stay at our Grand Hotel. The hotel used to be a convent of the XVII Century and we had many restrictions that have limited the chance to enlarge dimensions and spaces. Most of the people do appreciate the unique postion and incredible view rather than square meters and only some of the rooms have balcony or little terrace same as your companions travelling with you. The Staff at the Front Office has tried to propose a larger room with a minimun extra charge to assign a larger room , when the official price would have been double ! That was both for your own confort , to have more space for your several bags ,and to provide a balcony or terrace as per your request! I know that the staff at the Restaurant has been prodigal of extra attention and care and nevertheless your judgement has been so severe. I don't want to remark that Ceaser Salad is prepared as per its classic recipe and the Catched Fish goes naturally with weight just to be by the client side and pay for the effective quantity, but it would had been nice of you to evaluate the overall experience at the Bar and the Restaurant! In the end we are sorry we could not demonstrate as we do for the vast majority of our clients, that the combination of the unique location, the beauty of the surrondigs and especially the attentive service of the Team can sort out the blend for a perfect stay 'We have failed in your case and I feel very sorry for that !Kind Regards,Antonio PoleselGeneral Manager
