  This hotel is rated four stars but does not have the facilities to merit that in my opinion. The rooms we booked either had the temperature controls stuck at too hot or too cold and most could not be turned off and were very loud. This made it hard to sleep from both the noise and the heat or cold. One of our party members tried to plug out the kettle in their room and the whole plug socket came out of the wall! The hair dryer in another room didn’t work and took ages to be fixed. There are no bins in the bedrooms. The hotel itself is shabby and in need of a deep clean and paint. The restaurant does have a nice view but the windows are very dirty. We did not brave the pool. In a four star hotel I would have expected a bathrobe and slippers in the room, toiletries such as luxury shampoo and conditioner, etc provided. There were cheap bottles stuck to the wall. One of soap by the sink and one of wash in the shower. Finally my room ended up with ants, on the third floor.

  The hotel is situated in a great location I Riva with the many restaurants, cafes, gellaterias and shops all within easy walking distance. The road that leads to the hotel doesn't allow cars, so I pulled over and my wife walked to the hotel where they told her we could access the road temporarily whilst we unloaded our luggage. It would have been nice to know this before hand. Perhaps I should have asked? The hotel rooms are spacious with 2 large windows looking over the square and museum to the left. As a few others have put the AC is inconsistent and in likely need of servicing or replacement. Also, you can hear the neighbouring rooms when they have the shower running which is a slight issue if your room neighbours like to get up at 6.30am. The biggest issue that I think the hotel needs to look into (for me) is the breakfast. For a hotel with many rooms the breakfast is sparse come 9am (finishes at 10am) it's located in a poor place for the floor with people trying to access 2 sides of the seating areas whilst walking through the bottle necked food area. The selection is quite basic with your typical pastries, fruit and yoghurt. With a small amount of pancakes being served early and aren't replenished when they've all gone. The fruit juices are simply cordial squashes. Which I feel could be replaced with actual orange and apple juices and would give a better experience. One morning the "orange" juice was so weak it would have been nicer to simply drink water. The roof top pool offers great views, although i would recommend caution when getting in, it's a stainless steel pool with no handrails to guide you in. I witnessed 2 people fall (my wife being one) and bruising themselves on the metal staircase. The ground level saunas etc.. are a nice touch. In the round I would say the hotel is "good", certainly above average and I think if the breakfast area was relocated and perhaps choices slightly modified it would enhance the experience. And, if, like us, you simply wanted a base to go and experience the beauty of lake garda then this hotel is more than suitable.

  The location is fantastic with countless shops, bars, cafes and restaurants nearby as well as easy access to the Lake. The views from the rooftop restaurant/pool are beautiful. The hotel itself was okay. It’s wasn’t particularly clean, a lot of areas were very dusty which was off putting. The bathroom was basic but functional and the bed was too firm for our liking. The room did have A/C but it wasn’t very powerful. The pool area on the roof offered amazing views over the square and the lake but the pool was gross. It didn’t seem to be filtered or have chlorine in it so it always had a layer of scummy sun cream floating on the top. Not many sun beds and no parasols or shade up there. We didn’t have much interaction with staff but when we did speak to the front desk the staff were curt and not very welcoming. If you’re looking for somewhere in a prime location to just sleep and grab some breakfast Grand Hotel Riva is a good choice as long as you can overlook the lack of cleanliness.

  We had a lovely stay here with nothing to complain about at all, everything was as advertised. The rooms were nicely decorated and clean. The breakfast was good and the views from the breakfast room superb. Pool was small but as expected. The location is fantastic. All in all a really good stay.

  Friendly staff, comfy beds, great view. Clean and it was kept clean each day with fresh towels. Air con not very poweful, fridge didnt chill properly. Breakfast average. Pool area very small and disappointing. Views from the roof though and restaurant were fabulous. Classed as a 4 star but in reality it’s more a 3. Great location and easily accessible to the lake.
