    I confess I had low expectations. The rooms are classic not as modern as we might like but the hotel is beautiful. Beautiful historic property with manicured gardens. The staff, in particular the most knowledgeable lady very friendly and helpful. Very nice breakfast. I recommend.     Off-Season Opulence at a Bargain

    Beautiful breakfast dining area which is poolside. We went in September and it was a steal of a deal. This hotel is beautiful and grand, we loved it. Our room had a huge balcony and a second smaller balcony with an ocean view. We would definitely stay here again. Gorgeous grounds too.     This is an amazing hotel. There is a real sense of history and the rooms and grounds are totally delightful. Lots of attention to detail and wonderful, helpful staff. The choice at breakfast was huge, and everything was high quality. We found the pool area and the grounds were both perfect for relaxing. A perfect place for anyone wanting a relaxing or romantic break.     Recently spent a lovely weeks holiday at this pleasant hotel . Great room in the separate building overlooking pool . Nice gardens - good service and staff are an asset from the managers who keep a constant eye on ensuring smooth running to the lovely restaurant girls who serve with a smile and nothing too much trouble .Cleaner and pool staff all good too.     A STEP TOO FAR

    The 4 star Park Villa Ariston Hotel is an historical pile with considerable history. It is situated on the border between Lido Di Camaiore and Pietrasanta . The hotel faces the sea and is part of a small estate with a number of outer accommodation buildings together with reception rooms and a small chapel . The site is unique and bears no comparison with the many modern concrete hotels along the waterfront. Undoubtedly it has an an attraction for a certain type of clientele. The service is impeccable . However it is not without it’s glaring faults and does not meet the standards required for modern day travellers.The rooms are in the Rococo style with huge framed mirrors ,gilded with elaborate carvings. The furniture is much the same and the wardrobes are inadequate and worn Again the heavily draped curtains and equally over upholstered head board give the room an overbearing ambience.Throughout the building heavily adorned walls apply, together with some ghastly lighting fixtures The light in the building is also dour and in desperate need of more illumination. The breakfast area is outside of the main building housed in a glass construction with a white tented net interior. The food was good but on the last day we were there it was in short supply. This dining area faces a a rather nice large pool. At the far end is a giant sized spa bath which isn’t heated and is very dilapidated. The gardens are thoroughly maintained.The real problem is that the hotel has three levels and NO LIFT. From the ground level there are 12 high steps up to the Reception first floor area.We were allocated a room on the top floor. The height of each ceiling is around 12 ft. There are 44 steps to the top level from inside the building and 56 in total from ground level. In our mid seventies we found it exhausting. As for moving our luggage ourselves, that was out of the question.This hotel is living in a time warp and is trying to hold onto character that no longer pertains in this day and age. The Villa Ariston has the grace of a bygone time but is sorely inadequate for today’s needs especially without any lounge to relax in.
