Serious refurbishment needed!

We’ve stayed here for a few years now but the hotel is slowly declining. The rooms need a serious refurb, especially the very old air con units. It must be costing them a fortune to keep them running. Every year I complain that they don’t allow you to eat breakfast in their beautiful garden and they still don’t. The restaurant manger is very unfriendly! Shame as the location is perfect. Gorgeous hotel perfectly located in central Modena. The service was exceptional. The cost for the room given the quality of the hotel was reasonable. The breakfast buffet is INCREDIBLE - they make a fabulous cappuccino! I give this hotel my unqualified recommendation. Nice hotel in wonderful ancient palazzo.

Ancient palazzo in the heart of the historic district. Beautiful lobby. Notice the place needs a refresh of the paint and new furniture. Our room had a balcony and a hard mattress. Asked at the desk what could be done to put padding on mattress, receptionist Matteo upgraded us to a better room, room 232, which was bigger, had a view of the garden, and a more comfortable bed. Breakfast was in the basement which was filled with light from the garden. It is probably wonderful in the spring, summer, and fall, when you can sit outside. The choices we excellent, and you can order special eggs. Cappuccinos were excellent and included in the buffet.The lobby has an area with waters and fresh fruit. A nice touch. There is a lobby bar, but during this quiet winter time no one around. The lobby has some beautiful paintings and ceilings. Furniture could use a refresh to a more stylish type.The hotel has a beautiful garden in the back and in warm weather it must be great, quiet and private.Matteo at the front desk was great and a wonderful source of information and helped us plan a visit to a cheese factory. May at breakfast was cheerful and attentive.
